Got one and slapped a Neo 2T on it and I can't imagine riding indoors without the MP1! I get it's expensive but I'm still happy with the purchase, just adds to the overall Zwift experience.

Apart from some great nuggets of information and tips, one of the main things I love about your videos is your honesty. Gave a throughly great user opinion on a unit that the company sent you though. And you dont sugar coat the cost. I agree cost is ridiculous, and indoor cycling as good as it has progressed in the years ain't going to out do outdoor. Not a wonder why so many build their own. Nice one. Keep up the great videos 👍

You had me when you said COMFORT!! For me comfort on a trainer is a big problem once I get beyond an hour. With winter weather, which you Aussies don't have, I spend 5 to 10 hrs indoors. Agree it's expensive but looks like it's built to last and Saris has a good reputation for support if there were ever any issues. This is on my list of must haves before next winter. My Dad always says, " You get what you pay for."

Saris did a great job engineering the fore/aft motion assembly...with the curved, gravity-centering rolling. Seems much more well designed than the various homemade spring loaded solutions I see posted. But the cost for these is outrageous, and I do not see based on the Saris patent list that there’s anything to prevent knock-offs on the motion assembly. I’ll await the refined knockoffs at that cost (or when Saris is forced to get out of the stratosphere!)

I re-watched your video after riding on my MP1 over the past couple of weeks. I am glad I did because I had missed the part concerning tightening the rear straps with an Allen wrench. I blame that on trying to read the very, very small printing in the accompanying manual with these old eyes. I have enjoyed the unit. I had the Wahoo Kickr, which I sold because I was nervous about using it on this unit and am glad I did. The Kickr seemed more like an interesting toy compared to the MP1 which actually improved my Zwift experience.
@danielhunt2510

The fact that the big companies Wahoo and Tacx now have trainers with fore/aft with their Kickr Move and Motion plates implies this provides a more important movement on a trainer than side to side. I can see why side to side seems the obvious choice but the unnatural indoor translation based on Shane’s review seems to confirm this. They are selling these MP1s cheaper now if you can find one but what I like is not having to faff around keeping balls inflated to the right pressure on other rockers generally on the market.

Very interesting but needs to be far more minimalist. Tried the new Elite front steering turntable at TDU....that’s really something. They’re anticipating just $50 for the non smart version when released in a month or two.

Concrete Head Interesting concept however a carbon steerer tube would be ground to a pulp in no time. The Elite steerer plate is quite impressive,it has a slight centering function, better than the Kinetic turntable I have.

I have been using one for a little over a month now. Started with the block, then put my Kickr climb on it. It works well but I find that on hard standing efforts the climb moves left or right making the whole setup no longer centered.. There needs to be something to keep it on place. Maybe an L bracket on both sides of the front track that locks in with the factory t-bolt. I will probably have to make it myself. I doubt Saris will make something to help Wahoo out...

Great Review as always. Just to let you know I have been running the Tacx Steering Track with a 2T since I got the MP1 about a month ago and it feels much better than locking the front in. I just drilled two holes in the Tacx Track and used the t bars and knobs (with some 3d printed spacers) and its mounted in place on the MP1.

I've very willingly spent a bunch on bike stuff like power meters, Kickr, dedicated room, computer, big screen TV etc etc for indoor training.... but I would not be willing to fork out $1200 for such an item. I can't imagine they will sell many of these.... given the price.

Great review. I've been looking at rocker plates for a few weeks now and have noticed that there are quite a few "DYI" (do it yourself) plans out there that have "front / back & side to side" movements out there. Have you had any comments on these? Since you were mentioning price point, these end up going for much less and seem to provide an acceptable ride. What do you think? Thanks again for your great product reviews!
@Andy13231

Be interesting to know how rocker plates affect muscle activity. Seen a few studies that show indoor riding doesn't work the hamstrings as much (possibly due to lack of lateral movements and interaction between glute med and hamstring muscles). From personal experience after a long period off indoor riding switching to outdoors, I experience discomfort in the hamstrings on the road

@jeskli11
@jeskli11 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think a steering block could make it more natural. You would probably need something like it also for the trainer itself, but with opposite direction of the steer. And that would require either the front or the rear plate to have dome sort of forward and backward motion to have the same distance between axles at all times.

Yes, Its a lot of money. Just some consideration. This product has gone through a tough road at Saris. Its an innovative idea that has made its way through tons of testing and prototypes to get to the point its at now. Frankly it has a lot more than £100 of material in it along with trying super hard to make this in the States in Madison, WI. We understand its expensive and not achievable for a lot of people and we are working on that, but we were confronted with the challenge of not selling it at all, or risk selling it without proven tested parts that would fail over a short time. Instead we released the product out in the market for what it actually cost to make a product of this caliber, in the US, with these materials and risk the price being high. This is a new product where we didn't want to settle on product reliability or quality, and it ends up to be high priced. It will for sure come down in the price, but we reached a point the the process where we are happy with what we have accomplished and ready for people to start enjoying it. I encourage you to ride it and see what you think? Not saying you will change your mind on the price, but you might have more respect for what went in to making it.

One problem. Outside people rock something that weights some 8kg beneath us. In a trainer we are trying to leverage something that weights around 20kg. Completely different beast. As for the competition, I can wahoo incorporating movement on their kickr bike platform. It's hard for a company to make a product that will accommodate all different trainer out there. But if wahoo makes something solely focused on mimicking movement in their own bike then you have the final closing of the product. Movement everywhere.

Why not use rollers instead?

Rollers aren't the same as a direct drive interactive smart trainer. They're cycling, sure... but different.

Is there a better chance that rollers would produce close to outdoor wattage than direct mount trainers on sprints?
@gplama
@gplama 4 жыл бұрын
@@artalviar4050 No. Rollers are VERY unstable in sprints which means you can't generate the same peak power.

2000 Aud is a lot of coin i could buy a lot of beer and rock on my trainer. I've gone the full opposite by extending the arms on my fixed trainer and dyna bolting one arm to the floor. I like to climb in a more rigid fashion obviously 😃I'm glad that call this a Saris imagine if they dropped the 'i' right now.

Is it kicker bike compatible?
@gplama
@gplama 3 жыл бұрын
If you’re game enough, I guess so. Don’t expect it to move like a bike outside though... that’s a lot of weight to be swinging around on the MP1.

At 1199 you can buy Inside Ride's eMotion rollers. This is way over priced and does not appear to offer the same great road feel as the eMotion rollers.

It certainly looks nice. But I was thinking it would be about ~300 dollars. Too bad!
