I had a theory a while ago on why the navy seals have so many internal problems and drama. It's the selection process. All that's really being assessed is physical might and grit, leading to an accumulated culture that lacks strong values about respect and honor for both yourself an others. From everything I've watched, read, and studied, sfas is essentially a 3 week long job interview. Not just a ringer to test assess your physical and technical skills but to test your character when you're at your limit and beyond. The approach of "just don't quit" (assuming you are physically capable of the challenges. ofc it doesn't apply to some 115 pound teenager who cant do 20 pushups) doesn't apply half as much to sfas as it does to buds. There's a story in a book I'm reading called Ruck-up or Shut-up, very popular among aspiring 18Xs like myself, about a guy who was top of the class physically by FAR! Great leader too. First in every event, every march, etc. If you were put on his team you won the lottery. But towards the end, him and his team strapped their water cans to their rucks which was a clear violation of the events rules. One of his team members pointed that out and he said something along the lines of "Don't worry about it, I'll take the hit" thinking his physical lead would make up for the infraction. He was a 21 day non-select. Later he asked why and they asked him to remember what he said about taking the hit. That was the hit. That story stands as a true testament to the phrase "Green Berets aren't looking for the *'best'* people, they look for the *'right'* people." and how seriously that metric is taken. I think if the seals restructured they're pipeline to incorporate that kind of methodology they would save their whole component from becoming obsolete. The transition would be rough and there would be pushback but in the long run, I can't see how they wouldn't benefit. What do you think?

What about South African Recces Selection? Allegedly, this is widely considered the hardest selection in the entire world. They supposedly have a pass rate possibly even lower than even Delta Force.

Based upon the old Selous Scouts selection which SAS guys had failed. But "still not as hard as Scout Selection" is the quote I repeat from a bloke I met in Afghanistan who, as it happens, had completed both. Don't worry, he was vetted and yes, was a graduate of the last Scout Selection before Rhodesia went balls up. So I take his word for it.

@@vitigaymer1053I agree with you about PJs, but I also think the AFCCTs, have a very low pass rate. The Air Force has some of the greatest operators out there. Esp the 24sts,are elite AF. You can have a CCT go out on one mission with Devgru, then his next mission with Delta.

@iiwidowla99lambo65 if possible if you can learn a language like spanish, Mandarin, Russian, or a dialect of a middle eastern nature, you're way ahead, and the process of undertaking another language comes faster to you. Depending upon the group you're assigned to will dictate the global specificity of the nature of the language you're gonna learn

@WileyE.Coyote-i7c
@WileyE.Coyote-i7c Күн бұрын
@iiwidowla99lambo65 if you can pull 3 years of Spanish in HS, you'll be good to go. The language course is drinking from a fire hose. I've heard of many guys learning French, Spanish and Italian, which from my personal opinion, Italian, if you can speak Spanish the cross over is super simple. I grew up as an airforce brat, we lived most of my life overseas, I was able to learn a great deal of the local languages where dad got stationed. Good luck and take in what you can, join your schools wrestling and track teams, football doesn't hurt but track and wrestling will get you in shape for things you'll be up against. If you are dead set on SF, buy a ruck, load it, get mil surplus boots and go out and do the rucking now, get your feet, ankles, knees and back built up for the tasks ahead. If you can afford to get into a BJJ around you, take that on too, if not this is where wrestling doubles down.

as an Aussie born and bred in the stinking hot outback, the NZ SAS selection looks harder to me. its a shorter course but they get absolutely thrashed. The heat is a big factor in AUS selection but for alot of the Aussies, it's all they know. That might be the reason the Aus SAS was selected to be first men into the desert of Iraq 2003. Even back to WW2 Aus were called upon for the LRDG but we didnt answer the call. NZ laced up the boots for the LRDG and proved they can do it in their own conditions aswell as the desert conditions. you should check out the NZ selection after this, they some tough nuts across the ditch 🇦🇺🇳🇿

Mate i looked up the 20KM run and you have to average at least 8.10 km per hour, which is very hard that a slow run pace, not a fast walking pace at all, plus you have a full pack on your back which is what 28KG all up and at the end you have to make sure that your water can is full as well, that very hard buddy, i have friends who served in the SASR back in the mid 1980's and they told me so much just about the 21 days its not funny, your still have around 2 years of this shit before you even allowed to go on a mission? Plus you then pick a specialised option, like comms medic, etc etc, IT or weapons, which you all get to learn ,but as operator you get to pick one or more depending on what you want or they need back at HQ around australia. cheers 👌👍😎🦘✌

Hey buddy, i read a book while in primary school so around 7 or 8 years old which was about a south african boxer and his moto was never ever give up on anything in life, i had a car accident when i was 20 years old, i did serve in the navy and air force cadets and it was my calling meaning that i wanted to serve in the air force as a MP, the same day i had the car accident i went to head office on military recruitment in St Kilda road melbourne Australia and singed up and in 2 weeks i was going to basic training etc etc ,but that night i had the car accident, so my first alive day was 30 of April 1986, i was shattered but i remembered that book and so today i have achieved so much in life and experienced so much bad as well, like discrimination yes it there, weather you want to believe it or not. so never ever give up on anything you do, never try to be someone else or try to copy someone else ,just be yourself and give 100% at any task you do in life whatever that might be. 👌👍😎🦘✌
