It comes down to this, and various operators from all manner of countries have spoken on it, JSOC has an unlimited budget. Youve got a single Delta guy shooting more rounds in a year than even a white side SOF unit's entire squadron/platoon/etc. Most of the SAS/SBS guys ive seen talk about it mention the same. They just dont have the training budget that JSOC guys have. We owe a debt of gratitude to the Brits, the father of elite HR units, and our systems wouldnt be where they are today without those amazing SAS dudes that started it all.

So an American who can't sleep& gets a motion to do some practice shooting can just go&do it,at his leisure,but the Brit SF don't have that luxury!

@@gootusfootus3229 i have had guys shoot 1600 9mm rds in two consecutive training days to achieve a draw fire 2 shots into the thinking zone at 10m in less than .5 seconds. Deltas first pistol course is two weeks of dry fire before a live rd is touched off. Why? Fundamentals matter. Then they progress on to other pustil skills. At the Delta compounds firing range the range flag is up 24/7. You can fire unlimited rds.

His only positive comment was that some of the Brits get used to it and can actually manage to hit targets with it That’s the UK government for you.

@@grahamhireme9283 there is likely more truth in what you say than you realize. On the whole Americans seem to be more comfortable and confident handling firearms. However the pre WW1 British Army had supremely high standards of rifle training and marksmanship way beyond any other country. Theres no real voodoo to training troops to shoot well but when you have students with a ingrained social phobia of firearms it impacts them.

This is a good example of minute differences in culture carrying over into the military. There is a much larger culture of gun ownership, shooting sports, and hunting in the US, and a lot of members of SOF units came up in this culture prior to even joining the military. Many members of US SOF units buy their own firearms similar to what they are issued at work, and become firearm enthusiasts- if they weren't doing that already. Some spend their off-duty hours training with these firearms, hunting, and participating in various types of competition, like 3 gun, IPSC/IDPA, long range matches, and so on. These opportunities abound in the US, esp. near some of the larger bases that SOF units inhabit, like Bragg, Campbell, Carson, Eglin, Benning, and so on. Regarding members of "delta", most all of them got there from other SOF units like army SF and Ranger regiment, where they are given fairly large allocations of ammunition and range opportunities of every type- much more so than any conventional unit, and a very high level of training within the unit from experienced instructors. This pays dividends when it comes to weapons proficiency and handling skills and building good habits and a baseline of skill. After all, advanced skills are mosty basic skills done very well. Then of course they move on to the higher tier, where they are trained in more advanced tactics and honed to that superior edge, with no expense spared to achieve this level of expertise. So I believe that considerations like exposure to firearms in general, repetition in quality training, and the other factors that give our "delta" personnel such a head start advantage over our counterparts in other countries is something that ends up making a difference when comparing finished products.

This is 100% true. I spent my formative years in the UK, and moved to Texas when I was a young teenager. American gun culture is very different. I know quite a few civilians that are extremely proficient weapons handlers... I own an AR-15 and a Glock 19 and have a gun club membership--most of my UK friends wouldn't even know how to rack a pistol. Christian Craighead alludes to this in one of his interviews.

I think at the absolute elite level of any special forces, there is very little difference in level of ability. I think to even be at that level is to beyond normal human reckoning so any spec ops unit of any good training will be insanely OP. What I liike about the SAS selection process is that it's all very calm, very literal and objective oriented but with the main judging criterie being your adaptability and aptitude. This is all done without anyone barking orders and the main focus is on mental toughness (obviously physical too, but you already have that to be there in the first place).

Charging Charlie Beckwith was Delta Force and SAS. Hes well worth a Google yet there wont be much on his SAS history. Check out the wings on his Uniform though. He is admired by many special operations guys. At 50 he was still passing fitness tests. He also lead a raid into Iran. Loads more stories.

One of the SAS regiments has separated the CQB Black role element and given it away to Non-badged members who have at least half-completed selection. The Green role is now for badged men only, Mountain, Air, Vehicle and Water Troops, operating behind enemy lines, back to the original WW2 role. It makes sense as the Green role is in some ways more difficult than the Black role, and suits men with high pain thresholds and long-distance yomping and navigation abilities.

I think it gets clouded sometimes about what special forces actually do. Its not just about the gunfights or combat. Theres a LOT of hearts and minds stuff, intel gathering, secret squirrelly type stuff. Most SF guys would rather spend the time and avoid the fight. While the British had a massive influence over Delta, don't overplay it. A lot of butthurt folks from across the pond seems to insist that the 'SAS trained us, honed us". The SAS provided a number of key contributions, mostly the concept of selections , but training was done by numerous organizations and personnel- yes one guy from the SAS, some guys from KSK, GIGN, FBI, CIA, DSS, and even criminals. The idea that the" British trained Delta" is just dishonest. Yes, the SAS were in lead with their CT shooting skills(owing to experience in Ireland), but that last all about no more than 2 years in the 70s, because CT was new, and everyone was developing doctrine and contributing through cross training and sharing of TTP. The SAS played a role, but they didn't have the monopoly on this. US SMUs quickly closed that gap, and exceeded it. Pat McNamara describes opening more plane doors than an air stewardess, just to paint the picture on how tubular assaults were perfected in Bragg. TTP and technology developed at Bragg would than be shared through cross training, as with tactics developed in Hereford. ( like fast roping or HAHO techniques-SBS/SAS contributions for example). But CAG's success, is because of CAG. you didn't hone the, let alone train them. Jack Murphy sums it up in his Blue Light Series "Delta Force continued to evolve, developing not as an offshoot of British special operations, but as a distinctly American unit that had more in common with the OSS than the SAS. The British influence has always been there, though, largely due to Beckwith. " Countless interview with actual operators are out there, Peter Blabber, Shrek Mcphee, George IV Hand all paint a corroborated picture. Delta was already unmatched even in the 90s, I would argue even in the 80s. We didn't catch up, you fell behind.

This is the dumbest question possible, and I make that statement based on the title alone. In the first instance both the SAS and Delta train intensively for any operation and I would put money on either to beat any opposition. Further, I expect their marksmanship to be exemplary under any circumstances. But lets have a look at an Aussie SAS man. He, highly trained stepped through a door and faced a bunch of kids. He was shot and killed by a gunman standing behind the kids. The kids were a human shield that the SAS soldier refused to harm, but he did not know they were there until he went through that door. So who is better than who? Totally irrelevant.

I would say that the majority of people in a hostage situation world wide if given the choice would choose the SAS all day long. Because past history and results say it all. Lol. I constantly hear about how Delta copies SAS training so it must be better - based on nothing. In fact, Delta produces what are called 'perfect shooters', meaning that every round goes where they want it and they never fire a single round that isn't intentional. Note he's comparing to the idiotic SEAL training (most SEALs arrive with no combat training, whereas most Delta candidates are already Green Berets or Ranger regiment types, who fight better than non-DevGru SEALs before Delta training. SAS are great, but the scale of Delta in terms of people and tech and org and capabilities are an order of magnitude better than SAS or any specforces team on Earth. SAS also draws from military. Nothing to be ashamed of, SAS are legends. But as this guy notes, Delta is just at another level. U.S. should shut down SEALs they are war criminals and an embarrassment to the military.

All I`ve heard from the SAS itself is that they like what they do. They use live ammunision in their training and during the Iranian Embassy Siege in 1982 they were hoping that negotiations between the British Government and the Terrorists would fail - so that they could do what they are trained to do.

In the real world when they were counter ambushed by Argentinian SOF patrols in the Falklands war, they came off second best. That's the only time I am aware of them facing another unit with a SOF skillset in a green role But a mythological brand has been build around them

The British romped home, the French came in way behind and the Americans failed to finish. But US v UK forces boxing matches are still on KZbin. When it comes to training and the ability to perform the SAS/SBS are simply the best in the world. But when you take the assets Delta Force can call upon as well as numbers, it makes complete sense for them to work hand in hand as they have done for decades ruining everything they get called upon to mess up. The selection process for 22 is still in this woke, PC compliant world insane. The guys that make it are so few it makes you wonder how units are maintained. People still die on an almost annual basis just trying to get in.

You have rather shamefully taken one single incident of one exceptional Delta marksman and presented it as evidence of Delta's entire wholesale superiority. I can tell you that up until at least the late 1990s joint training exercises with US special forces were in reality the SAS training or honing them. Perhaps you have caught up by now, but be grateful to who showed you how. I would suspect however, that SAS operatives have greater personal resourcefulness/resiliance and will survive solo and without support better. Edit: some of my replies to the responses below are disappearing. lol. I had an immediate family member who had an armed role at the SAS base in Hereford (before it moved to Credenhill) from something like the early or mid 80s until the mid or late 90s - now in their 80s and long gone deaf from years of live gunfire training. At least up until that time it was well known that US SF might officially be training with the SAS, but in reality they were not at the same level and were effectively being trained by them. This statement seems to upset some Americans. It is not however a specaltive opinion one might have of watching lots of youtube videos - it is either happened or it did not.

I'm just looking at his gold Rolex and wondering if he consults as a vet now, because while in service, nfw could he afford that watch, unless it dropped while he was in country somewhere and it was holding on to someone that was slowly becoming a cold body. I think the whole 'were you just a good shooter' thing answer was disingenuous at best because even Olympic athletes or myself having things I was good at, still had to put in the work and thousands of hours to make everything super fast and unconscious action. They all gave high praise for each other except CAG, they say they are better. Usually the one who says they have the bigger d/$k, doesn’t.
