A veteran once told me "You just don't resist or survive an interrogation. You either die or don't get captured at all". Unless you are a VIP and too value to be killed, you don't survive an interrogation unless your captors want to keep you alive.
@chucknutly3290

The security of interrogation training is not to yourself or any individual but the security of your own country and the man or men beside you. Interrogation training is more than just seeing how you react under interrogation but seeing how you react in general. It's a test yes but it's not like there's really a right or a wrong answer or response, it's an overall assessment in the most simple and brutal way. It's a test of shear will and guile, there's no real revision or studying for it when it happens for real, it's about assessing opportunities and playing on your captors will to keep you alive without giving anything important away.

According to every military man it's never a matter of if you'll break. It's when. A few days without sleep? Without water? Food? Daily beatings? A few less fingernails? They'll break you. No matter how long you hold out. It's basically just a matter of holding out until you're rescued or escape

Yeah but usually you're buying time. Plenty of people will just kill you once they think they've gotten enough out of you. Then you leak a little more. Giving yourself more time to find a chance to escape or get rescued, maybe even released. Sometimes it's as simple as they don't have the time or room for you or killing you etc. Or administrative issues, if you wait long enough something may occur that benefits you. More time alive, more chances at freedom. But you gotta hold out of very long periods of time and give them just enough to keep you alive. Just from videos in the trenches in Ukraine whether journalists held captive, or soldiers, they were released only because they didn't have any more room for them or supplies, or time to kill them/bury them because of unknown administrative decisions. One got released because the battle nearby became too intense and unstable, they just didn't have enough men to do stupid shit like watch prisoners they needed them up front fighting, so he basically walked out of there and no one was there. Sometimes it's that dumb and simple and it can save you, not always though
@JohnnyCrack

well im not a professional interrogator. Bu there is one thing to take a beating yourself or watch and hear one of your buddies getting savagely tortured. if you take the weakest captured, the wounded one in this case, and simply brutally torture him while the other can hear and see the agony his going through. the chances are much higher the weakest will crack since he's injured, his resistance will be way lower, and the other one of the psychological torture. the weak point is often just hurt some other person they care about, as they would probably take a beating for themselves with a smile and even die if necessary...just saying

Ammo? You don't need to shoot a captive person. Your hands will be cuffed behind your back, and then they just put a plastic bag over your head and tie it around your neck. You'll be dead in minutes. But they'll most likely just hit you in the head with the shovel that was just used to dig the hole they're going to put you in.

At this point we are confused as to why Sergeant Harris has repeatedly failed the female interrogator portion of the course. To date he has repeated this portion 27 times and there is no sign he will pass for the 28th. It has been six months since he started this course. We have informed him that maybe this just isn't his specialty and he should consider other options but he refuses to give up and has even become borderline violent when confronted about being pulled and returning to duty. Every day he wakes up and dutifully and reports to the cell to be interrogated yet again by the role playing female interrogator. We are truly puzzled as to how someone with a stellar record that lacks failure can't pass this simple portion in spite of our best efforts to help him along. Surprisingly, the female interrogator also insists that we continue and has not become the least bit frustrated with the situation.

Also, the female interrogator has requested a riding crop and fuzzy handcuffs. We find ourselves confused as to why the female interrogator needs a riding crop when physical interrogation isn't even allowed, never mind why she would want more comfortable handcuffs for her prisoner.

I was living in Spain and didn't have enough money for the surgery and the anisthetic, his name was Jesus. That's not the worst though, when I was 17 I had a head on collision with another motor bike and his helm it hit me in the face and broke my jaw. They waved wires in and out of my teeth top and bottom, then attached those wires vertically. 3 months later, was driving my new bike home from the hospital so refused the anisthetic. He chopped the vertical wires and said I had a choice, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip each one and pull out the wires which would take about an hour,,, or just grab one end and pull (I'm writing one handed and holding the chair as I write), he attached players to the end of the wire on the bottom set, put his foot on the arm of the chair and pulled, blood went everywhere, then the top.

I don't really accept the "torture gets you lies" thing, you can torture them without risking death. Just tell them if you find out they're lying you will do more. The first one might be a lie, but after that...
@Raven.flight
@Raven.flight 6 жыл бұрын
That's the point NarkMan. Once they go hard you're going to give information. The thing is to be 'the Grey Man'. In the opening stages of a conflict, lots of POW's are going to be taken by both sides. That's a lot of information to be got through. Most of the POW's are going to have nothing of value, but they are mixed in with the ones that have a great deal of value. So, they have to find out who is who. They don't have the resources or time to go through each and every person with 1:1 extreme interrogation, so they get less skilled interrogators to sift through to find the ones they want to spend time and effort on. Your job in the initial stages is to be so grey that they don't know that you have info. Do that for 48 hours and any information you have will be worthless.

First rule: Don't get caught, make your get away when you start sensing danger. Second Rule: Don't ever reveal your inner fear (There will be some, when you are surrounded by the enemies), Wait for them to start the conversation, play ignorant, stay calm, let them keep talking (In the meanwhile plan your exit strategy and assess the situation), Don't play heed to the aggressive ones, talk to the calmer ones and arrive at false compromise. Edit: Remember All the times when you were at the principal's office for getting into trouble and how you spoke your way out.

Interesting at 21:00 how the SAS guy said the main thing is time.. to hold out long enough to keep your regiment safe or not compromise an operation.. but then once enough time has passed, you can start to think about yourself and cooperating gradually by giving them information half-truths etc.. why not do that from the start, ie play them, refuse to cooperate and then pretend to cooperate for food etc? Create an entirely false elaborate narrative (well practised in case of capture) on what your operation is, stick to it and keep on repeating it. Surely that tactic would save you from the very harsh and physical side of torture possibly, and also be useful in sending the enemy off on a wild goose chase tying up men and resources, whilst buying yourself and your men time..
@haratoo636
@haratoo636 2 жыл бұрын
I think the main reason as to why they don't create a false narrative that can be practiced is that under extreme mental torture, what you remember as facts and what is the fake narrative might get mixed up. It will honestly just confuse you and would most likely get your team in danger as the interrogater can surely pick out the 'facts' that do not add up. And you're also risking the fact that everyone in your team can stick to that narrative. What happens if one breaks earlier or thinks it's a good time to tell the actual truth due to some reason? It's just many holes that could be exploited. The video made it as easy as possible, to buy time. Don't cooperate, but nearing the end, when you are absolutely certain that there's no other option but to tell the truth, don't blurt it all out. Act as if you can't remember, be blur about the question buy time. Someone mentioned in the comments above that when you are captured it's only a matter of time before they break you, but your best chances to survive is to buy time
@redeye117
@redeye117 Жыл бұрын
I think its more if you start with fake narrative right away you have less cards to play in long run. The idea is maintaining silent at start is good way to not risk anything. Its just after some time the fake narrative is more for your own survival. Something to keep interrogator to run with even it a wild goose chase.

You have to remember the main reason you do this is so that you can survive as long as you can. That is why everyone according to their rank and objective only knows what they need to know and not more.

As someone who had drain replacement after peritonitis surgery without any anesthetics (1999 in Ukraine) I can tell you: no one will be able to resist anything pain involved. And it's not too hard to inflict pain to a human being.

That's apparently why the British don't do physical torture (as far as they say). During early WW2 they realised it was a waste of time: people in pain will tell you what they think you want to hear to alleviate their suffering. It means the quality of information is low.

There's something heartwarming about knowing there are people out there not just in UK who would be willing to put themselves through this, that they train themselves for it. That they would likely put themselves through a slow gruesome hopeless ordeal without cracking with the best thing they can hope for being the sweet release of death. And why? Cos it makes you feel like a hard nut? No, Because they can, because they took up the job of being a part of an elite group of people who are formidable, efficient, deadly and unbreakable. Cos I tell you right now, i'm watching this with 3 words in my mind FUCK. THAT. SHIT and I have deep admiration to anyone serious enough about their job and what it represents to train themselves to put up with something like this.

I have this whole 7-part BBC series. It's from about 2004 and on torrent sites. The two unmasked guys are legitimate ex-SAS. Best scene is when this guy, "Eddie Stone" shows how to disarm someone: he takes a rifle or pistol from a man so fast you need to watch it 10 times to see what he's doing.
