Thanks for the upload C.P.! SAS (Special Air Service) Used bows and arrows in North Africa during WWII to silently take out sentries guarding ammo dumps before then blowing them up! A powerful arrow will also penetrate a class III bullet proof vest (It bores through the kevlar fibre as parabellum /rounded projectiles don't).... Great stuff.

Outstanding! We're going to have to get you a green hoodie. I've been thinking of getting back into archery for a couple of years. I've never had a recurve bow and don't know anything about them, but you make it look so easy. excellent video and thanks for sharing
@CanadianPrepper9 жыл бұрын
+SurvivalTech Nord Thanks STaN lots of good how to archery videos on youtube, the best pointers I have heard is slightly bend the knees, look at the finest point of the target, the fuller your draw the faster the arrow and the more accurate, dont grip the riser just hold it, and to trust your intuition. I have mastered none of the above, but am improving, there is undoubtedly many things to add to that list.

That looks compelling, nice video very thorough, I like the pouch/quiver and the space inside the SAS bow great space saving features. Personally I picked up a primal a few months back 50lb and I like it, I'm modding it as I go to make it fully functional to include grip tape/knocks and silencers which helped me allot with consistency. Takes practice with this type of bow its not like other take down/recurve and definitely not like a compound.

I don't normally leave any comments, but I just wanted to let you know you will get more use out of the flipper rest that you have on the bow if you use it properly. It needs to be turned counter clockwise 90 degrees. You will get less drag from the fletching and it will also save your fletching as well. I would also recommend using a knocking point whether it is tied on or crimped on. Very nice review thank you.

I recall something in the literature stating it's NOT recommended for confronting Modern Armored Ground Warfare Vehicles weighing the 60 to 72 short Tons like the 3 series of Abrams weigh. However I think you'd be fine when dealing with some of the earlier tanks like the U.K's M3 Lee, or the U.S. M4 Sherman, or the Canadian Ram. You could even use the bow for hunting for medium and small game to feed yourself between battling tanks. 🙂

Butter-fly bolts? Additional holes makes it lighter and offer customized accessories. A stock can be made to attach converting it into a crossbow.
@CanadianPrepper9 жыл бұрын
+ADLER KREIGER Interesting, he may have not wanted to B-bolts as they stick out, and the folding ones might rattle, nonetheless its a neat idea. I agree about the holes, the crossbow idea would be totally badass!
@adlerkreiger39889 жыл бұрын
+Canadian Prepper the cross-bow stock would be unrecognizable as a similar design to the bow itself. using the same material with a slip bar trigger and a half-square-U to secure bow into. B's might stick-out more but less tools = quicker set-up. when B's used in "field of view" you can estimate kill zone performance and distance. A single simple string cock lever will charge the string to trigger and re-set it to the stock. this also stores inside stock with assembly and spares of. A small scope can be attached or use the adjustable bolts to make iron sights for quick aiming in conjunction with B's "field of view" adjustments . \ * _lever__\ * __bolt__> ====!=|======O-> ====!=====U0 stock / * trigger adapter / *

It looks like a nice, comparable bow to the Primal takedown. I wouldn't go and say it's better, but some people might like the variation. I know that my Primal Gear Unlimited bow will last a long time, just as it appears this S.A.S. bow will. I think there are advantages to each, and you really can't lose with owning either bow.
@CanadianPrepper9 жыл бұрын
+HORIZONS I agree they are both great bows that will last a long time, the engineer who made the SAS bow may have a lot to say about that discourse about which is better as he is pretty technical about his reasons for making the SAS bow as it is. The thing I like about it more is the smaller size, the faster shooting, and how it feels in the hand. I will still use my primal gear bow, its still a lot of fun to shoor, but I think its safe to say at such an early phase of the survival bow game, we have yet to see the most optimal setup.

Hi, the strings do fit correctly and it is totally normal to have to twist a string to get the brace height correct. Strings are normally sold in 2" increments according to the IBO standards so a shorter string will probably not fit the bow. If you google traditional bow string twist per inch you will see what I mean. SAS did it correctly.
@CanadianPrepper8 жыл бұрын
+Trineer SA Sure I would still prefer if this wasn't required as any twisting is just more stress on the string and certainly not better for it, unlike a flemish twist

its a verry nice one, but about the handle and rubber, i have an idea for you wich might work, but u do have to alter a little bit of the thing so u dont have the offset, i mean just scrape a few layers off as a curve on that spot, anyways about the handle, just put a replacable piece of rubber on top of it, maybe trie to make it a little more rounder for a good handle, i just have a feeling this bow will feel less natural then the round bows, or what ever name they might have

I'd bring along glue, flecthing stored in a hot box will damage the vains. I grew up on aluminum arrows, however the take down part makes me wonder if it throws off f.o.c. of the arrow. Like any ILF bow is easily take down. My PSE Blackhawk fits into my backpack.

Also wonder about spareparts .. you made a few good points there .. some extra bolts etc.. seeing how the bow looks , i think i can use any good bowstring on it incase of no spares.. ( have used washing lines and paracords even in the past lol , can't be too picky when it comes to survival ..) It be indeed nice if the bow came with spareparts.. which they don't.
@citizen7629 жыл бұрын
nice idea. 65lbs is heavy for most archers and way too heavy for beginners for sure. a 45lb bow is plenty to kill things just as dead. It breaks down nicely but a takedown recruve will do that also. Bows are an underestimated tool. Read the book, "Earth Abides" by George R. Stewart, and any survivalist will afterwards buy a bow. :)
@citizen7629 жыл бұрын
The reason you don't see most recurve and longbow companies offer their models above 65lb is because no one wants them. You have to order custom bows to get more draw weight than that. Just because a person can draw more weight doesn't mean they should. Its a common mistake for beginners.
@magi19699 жыл бұрын
+Reichtangle In medieval warfare, they often shot for distance, with less care for accuracy. For example, indirect volleys, as far away as possible, and aimed at an enemy horde, not just at individual targets. And when they shot individual targets, the targets often wore an armour and carried a shield. Hence penetration was much more critical than in shooting bunnies or deer, and the arrows were maybe a bit heavier as well. Well, some bigger game also needs some power. It's also a case with practical hunting distance and power. You can't really hit a rabbit much further than 20 meters, so having a bow that can throw an arrow 500 meters far isn't that necessary. Well, a short flight speed is useful also against rabbits, but you can also use a bit lighter arrows. There's of course also the embarrassing fact that not all of us who like to shoot a bow are bodybuilders. And oddly, not many bodybuilders are interested in archery.
@fergusmason54265 жыл бұрын
@Sagrotan English longbows were so heavy for one reason: So they could launch heavy, armour-piercing arrows. There's no need for anything close to that in a hunting bow. Most African elephant bows are under 100lb, and 60lb will bring down anything in North America.

Just got my bow, I am a beginner; however the bow is very sturdy, shoots well. My only complaint is that the "new" line that is being sent out have a plastic-like bolt that screws the bushing/nut (which is metal and supports all the strain). I was just disappointed from all the videos I saw and specs I read, no-one mentioned this. I understand it is so it won't seize nor someone trying to overtighten it as well. That and me being a beginner and having questions where and how to set the notch (I'm going to bring it into the local archery place and get there two cents). I did shoot twenty arrows the day I received it and enjoyed it very much.

Good review, but a couple of points... Arrows kill through blood loss not shock, so the speed of the arrow and the poundage of the bow are not significant factors for hunting most animals. For most people a bow in the 40-50 lb range is more appropriate as they run less risk of being over bowed which can cause considerable problems with accuracy.Carbon arrows are NOT more accurate than aluminum arrows and while they generally do fly faster than the aluminum ones but the speed difference is largely a non-factor in hunting situations. As for the usefulness in hunting, aluminum arrows were the hunting standard as recently as 15 years ago. Carbon arrows were slow to catch on in hunting circles because of the risk of carbon fibre splinters in the meat from when the arrow is fractured in the animal.

+PREPFORIT I realize they are just doing there job but some of them don't use enough discretion, I got written up in a Canada national park for showing the kids how to shoot.... A BOW, it was a traditional recurve but of course by queens law it was considered a firearm! So yeah keeps it on the downlow!

Wow. I'm not really a bow guy because I never saw the benefit of a bow outweighing the burden of carrying one in my system but this thing has kinda changed my opinion. With the compactness of the entire system including the arrows now I see the benefit outweighs the burden.....

+Shinobi HOG I you have access to handguns and take down rifles then it may not be worth your while, but if your into archery or even for the simple point of having reusable ammo among other benefits like stealth then it may not be a bad thing to have in the arsenal.

I'm mainly interested in the reusable ammo and stealth.....

about saving the limbs. Are the limbs carbonfiber or simular, the material do not give of wheater or beeing strung.

Aren't you putting the arrows in the wrong way? The odd colour is meant to stick out away from the riser so it doesn't hit it on the way out.

I prefer to use the take down arrows from Primal Gear Unlimited. The fletching allows for shooting off the top of your hand like using an English Long Bow. As you draw, twist the bow string as much as you can.
