Fighting for pay on the wrong side of history - 2 mistakes in one choice. Who the F am I? No one really. Played my game long time ago in the Eastern Highlands of Rhodesia/Mozambique. Once out never looked back... took my battle to civvie street. Stupid is as stupid does. If I was a youngster and was addicted to the adrenalin I would have read the history FIRST ...and joined the Russ. Their cause makes far more sense... plus fighting an inevitable losing battle isn't my idea of clever. Once bitten twice shy. Hope he lives long enough to learn his lesson.

That IMO is something any court would take a very grim look at , let alone a Russian military court. He has 3 things going for him in this case. Quite how you can say immediately after he changes his narrative from "I left" to "I was fired" that he's believable and not lying makes you look ridiculous. By my own approximate tally at least 800-1000 British soldiers have died in Ukraine. From Italy: we have laws preventing people to serve as mercenaries abroad, but there is people doing it anyway. The situation is pretty bad in Kursk, Russians accused mercenaries and Ukrainian troops of having done very bad things to locals, burning houses, killing civilians and other horrible things, so Russians could even decide to treat prisoners as terrorists. All in all he's lucky being alive and in good physical conditions, I think that the fact Russian are winning and closing the Kursk pocket, may help this guy, since there is no need to abuse the prisoners, while from a judiciary point of view, the whole thing may be more complex, in any case I don't think his life is at risk.

That's the key fact mate, he is on the Russian side of the border as a Mercenary, if he'd been a few miles south his fate would have been far kinder. The Russians know exactly how many of each nation has mercernaries in Ukraine, it's been an unwritten rule both sides have abided by. Russia had been using Wagner and Ukraine using ex soldiers from NATO countries. The Russians see taking an anglo-saxon as they call us and americans as trophies. England has been the most hawkish of all countries fighting against Russia, just read our hardline media vs US media that doesen't really care much now. Russia has no death penalty, and UK will not be patching it's relationship up with Russia in our lifetimes... best this guy can hope for is not a life sentence which he should get provided the Russian FSB don't uncover evidence of him doing anything absolutely provable. Also did he say he came from oxford or went to Oxford University? A waste of a life regardless but his posh oxford accent suggests his story about his father etc is bs as well.

From what I’ve heard from others who went out there, one of the biggest challenges is the language barrier. When you’re in a platoon and an order or warning is being barked out in a foreign language, or even in English by someone for whom English isn’t their first language, the extra moment it might take to understand and absorb the information and react accordingly could put you at a disadvantage to your comrades and mean a higher risk of death, injury, or in this case, capture.

That's the problem. Hollywood and the media glorify war for the expressed purpose of suckering in the gullible and self-deluded. We are so heavily programmed that it seems almost every time the phrase 'Freedom and Democracy' is mentioned, most of us automatically take sides without looking deeply into what is actually going on. Even worse is when people start justifying wrong-doing when the narrative they believe in gets challenged by evidence or reality, which then causes them to deny the latter, often vehemently; sometimes violently.
