New Natural Hair Journey! Water Only Hair Washing/ No Products
Decided to try something new for 2015
I began the water only hair washing method Jan 2015 and I am still going strong. I have type 4 hair and it is short, therefore, I am not having much difficulties doing this daily. I share with you the Process (What, Why and How) of this method. These steps are not set in stone as all hair types are different. If you decide to try this, follow the tips and tweak it to your liking. The idea is not to use products at all. Check out the vid for more details and stay tuned for feedback, tips, styling and updates.
Stay tuned for SAS Video #2 - Big Chop 3 and how this method has affected my hair.

This is the best video I've seen on this method! If I could hi-five you, I would. It is very informative and direct to the point. It will be the one that I refer back to for a refresher course and the one I will recommend to others who want to learn about this method. I just started this method yesterday & am looking forward to how it works out for me. Thank you so much!

Very informative video. I've been doing the Water Only Method for about 2.5 months. Its been a learning experience, but I believe I'm going to stick with it. It does take some adjustment and wearing my hair in two strand twist does help to keep it moisturized.

Thank you :). I hit two months at the end of this month, Feb. I am def sticking with it for now, I don't see myself changing it all. U never know. .. 2 strands twists does work to retain moisture and help the sEbum travel down the strands, but I'm not too fond of wearing them when I go out, but For now sacrifices must be made. :)

HeRRTube Lol, yes, I rarely wear my two-stands out. I usually throw on a wig when I'm going out. Hopefully, one day, I will take my time and do a two-strand that's wearable:)

Excellent video. Thank you for sharing your experience while your hair is short. I have been toying with big chopping again, number 4 and doing this method with no product to see does it make a difference in my hair growth rate. I current get 1/4" a month. I would love to get 1/2".

HeRRTube, I truly love, love, love your video presentation of this method. Today is day one for me. I clarified my scalp and hair with Apple Cider Vinegar and water rinse (1Tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in one cup of warm water). I allowed this to sit on my hair with a plastic cap for over an hour while I exercised. I rinsed it out really good with warm water. I have pretty much be using mostly natural ingredients in my hair. My problem is keeping my hair twisted up. I have very soft, fine 3c/4a hair and the twist will not stay. I will go ahead with it to see how it works out, however, I did not want to put my hair in tiny twist, where it has the chance of locking. Also, are you currently still doing the method? If so, can you do an updated video? We would love to see your progress one year later. Thank you and keep up the great video and hair care regimen.

Absolutely! Update coming soon. I find that as the sebum works its way down the hair strands, of course depending on your hair as well, the twists will begin to stay and not unravel. Just keep working to get the sebum all the way down to the ends and the twists will begin to stay in place. Also, your hair should not necessarily lock unless you leave it twisted and continue to wash over a lengthy period of time. I have kept my twists in maybe a week if that, when water washing daily. This is a great way to help build up the sebum and get it down tbe strands faster as well. Keep up the work, it'll pay off. Thanks for the love♡.

Thank you for this video. My hair is a real TWA - not even a inch due to a big chop #2 in Jan and I've come across this concept just recently and decided to start March 1 and try this for 30 days. Any other tips. I thought I would try GHE nightly as well to avid some of the dryness. Looking forward to following your journey

=) Pay attention to the GHE. Due to the fact I do not have soft/distilled water, I didnt like the way my hair felt the following day. Some water systems are harsh (hard water), and it can definitely affect the way your hair turns out. I am working on getting a filter for my shower. Other than that, just stick to it every day. I know I get a little lazy at times and skip a day (or two) but I try to make sure I get back on track. =) Let me know how this works out for you.

thanks for the detailed description. how do you dry your hair after the wash? completely air dry or can you run a tee shirt or something thru it first?
@TruModelTru
@TruModelTru 9 жыл бұрын
+Blythe Dhia So sry I missed your message. Yes I do, sometimes, blot with a T-Shirt after to soak up excess water. Then you can either air dry or sometimes I just cover it with a satin scarf for the night.

+MsRouge2000 So sry for the delayed response. Olive oil is a relatively light oil. You can use that on your ends to help keep them moisturized while you work on getting the sebum down your hair strands. I like Jojoba oil as well.

tfs, what to do to the hair after each rinse? is conditioner ok?
@TruModelTru
@TruModelTru 6 жыл бұрын
Personally, I style my hair as normal without any products. The sebum is all your hair should need. Adding certain products may actually remove sebum from your hair that has been building up. For you, it may best to test it out to see if adding conditioner to your WOHW process works for you. This is a style I did with no products and the results were pretty great. --> kzbin.info/www/bejne/bF6zhnuCh8hlmc0

naturally50 My hair is protein sensitive and I can't use jojoba or coconut oil on my hair. Shea Butter and castor oil on the ends of my hair works well. Hope that helps.
@TruModelTru
@TruModelTru 9 жыл бұрын
Try using an oil that works for your hair, use it on your ends only as you work to get the sebum down your hair strands. The dryness is somewhat inevitable, just be patient and your hair will get where it needs to be in no time.

HeRRTube Do you still deep condition your hair while still using this method?
@TruModelTru
@TruModelTru 9 жыл бұрын
Erin Denise Currently, I do not deep condition, I am still working on my "perfect" regimen. So far I just use the WOHW method and I cleanse with ACV once a week or once every 2 weeks. I keep it pretty simple.
