There's also constant complex information being passed onto the driver about the complex track design and state of the race not just "go left" and "we got a smash up ahead". Indeed, it is literally a greek word, and the US has brought jazz to the workd, ironically in this scene. As for the french, I think the point was more about the enlightment and declaration of human rights, the greek democracy was a very limited one (it wasn't universal, but shared among a small cast, in this sense, it ressembled quite a bit to oligarchy).
