I used to shut my door
while my mother screamed in the kitchen
I’d turn the music up
get high and try not to listen
to every little fight
cause neither one was right
I swore I’d never be like them
but I was just a kid back then
the older I get the more that I see
my parents aren’t heroes they’re just like me
cause loving is hard it don’t always work you just try your best not to get hurt
I used to get mad but now I know sometimes it better to let someone go
I just hadn’t hit me yet the older I get
I used to wonder why
Why they could never be happy
I used to close my eyes
And pray for a whole ‘nother family
Where everything was fine
One that felt like mine
I swore I’d never be like them
But I was just a kid back then
The older I get the more that I see my parents aren’t heroes they’re just like me
And loving is hard it don’t always work you just try your best not to get hurt
I used to be mad but now I know
Sometimes it’s better to let someone go
It just hadn’t hit me yet
The older I get
The older I get the more that I see my parents aren’t heroes they’re just like me
And loving is hard it don’t always work you just try your best not to get hurt
I used to be mad but now I know
Sometimes it’s better to let someone go
It just hadn’t hit me yet
The older I get

My favorite lyric is *“My parents aren’t heroes, they’re just like me”* because they’re just as confused as you are about how the world works; they just do a better job at hiding it.

My brother has passed away three days ago due to cancer at the age age 21 . We are children of divorce so you have no idea how much your songs mean to us . Older the acoustic version was the last song he listened to . He told me before he's gone that he can't get the acoustic version out of his head . Older is very special for me and for him . Thank you Sasha for touching his soul . You could understand us better than the people who surround us . Now when I listen to your songs I'm gonna remember not only our dark past . But also I'm gonna remember him . " I swore I'll never be like them But I was just a kid back then " Rip Hadi ❤

Not all families are happy. The kids don’t wanna talk about their family problems and in school they are happy because some have friends and they also have their classmates who secretly go through the same thing. Though school is boring, you can’t lie that that’s the place where you are happy with your classmates but some can’t relate.

I've only discovered this song now. I feel like I find myself perfectly in it. My parents kept arguing, they were going to divorce but eventually my mother left us and moved in with someone else, leaving us only with my dad who is mostly away at work. It's super hard for me, I have to take care of absolutely everything. I cry and I consider them guilty for my suffering, but I don't even know what to believe anymore. I miss my old family and I'm even worse off when I think it's not going to be the same.

The real reason singers became world wide pop stars and his solo career blow up was because of the freemasonry hand signs he show`d again and again. The 2 popular hand signs M J used often were 666 and devil horns. In most cases the singer shows at least 4 hand signs and these are: 666 devil horns one eye tongue showing aka mocking. The talent may be there, but the hand signs must be there. Thats how a soul becomes a “rich and famous” singer or actor.

I found this song just today! When My dad cheated on my mom, I was 12 when I knew that he was doing it. He used yell at mom when he found another girl half his age and to me as well but it wasn't much. They've been fighting since I remember. I hated him, his guts. I remember how I had to cry silently because my parents and sister needed me as the strong person since they couldn't understand each other. It was as if I had a responsibility. Mom cried most of the days, she tried to harm herself too. I thought that it was her silly mentality at that time and stopped her. I showed I care but don't at the same time since they've told me to not care then again , care. I am close to Jesus and my lord. I didn't have a bestie. My belief and prayers were the only relief. Now I am 13 and maybe he still does that, I forgave him. But I wouldn't forget it as a human. But for me, it's better to forgive someone who has hurt you. But never forget it but forgive. For me of course. This song just described half of my daily routine those days other day other than being included in their fights there. For all those like me or have their own story, I have been there and still do and I know how that feels to be alone...... If you are. Be strong and remember you still have yourself! May the graceful God bless you!!!💚💚💚💜💜💚❤️💚 About me, now when I listen to this masterpiece, I understand people, my parents and myself better. I looooove this one for sure!

Yup...... I turned to opiates when my parents started hating each other as a teenager. Took MANY years to wake up and realize being numb doesn't make it NOT happen. As humans we have to process and deal w emotions. Not pretend they didn't happen or numb them. As a kid you don't REALIZE how MUCH your parents did for you until getting a lot older. Only then do we appreciate what they sacrificed for US. ❤

I used to believe that it wasn’t normal to have parents that fight and swear at me and fight right in front of me, but as I grew I realized I wasn’t the only one dealing with that and it doesn’t make it less painful but it helps to know that you aren’t the only one.

My understanding is it's not supposed to be normal, yet way too many families are like this. Mine used to be, roughly when I was about Sasha's age in most of the videos my parents divorced, and they seem to be a lot happier now with their new partners than they ever were together.

We tend to forget to acknowledge that our parents are mere humans. They make a lot of errors. They fail to make good examples for you. They teach you the do's and don'ts. They are not perfect nor heroes. But they are the reason you are reading this right now. As im writing this while listening to the song i've shed tears, wetting my pillow. I'm so fucking greatful to be alive. I accept that they are awful at times. But love always comes with a price. I'm grateful that I'm 17 and still breathing. I'm grateful that i didn't kill myself years back. And you should too. Hearts to all people in the comments

I can remember a time my parents got into an argument when I was around 7 so my sister picked me up and I slept at her place that night. I got a call from my dad, he was at a hotel. He said everything was fine and that he loves me. I was confused and had no idea what had happened. My parents are still together but I know they aren't happy. It's also rough because they weren't like that before I was born. When my siblings were younger, they still loved each other, they would kiss each other goodmorning and goodbye. Now they don't acknowledge each others presence. Growing up with parents who don't love each other isn't fun, I feel like I will end up just like them. But they love me and I have both of them in my life. I'm lucky they love me as much as they do. I just wish they would love each other too.

Some people just say: "OMG MY PARENTS TOOK MY PHONE Now I'm totally depressed" "Ugh I'm grounded I'm so depressed" It just pisses me off how fake they can make depression seem like. Now days if I tell anyone how sad am I they'll just say I'm looking for attention. Haha...If they knew anything about me. Thanks for 2 likes. It may be small but I'm still grateful.

I’m 9 now and I used to be 7 ... my grandma does a zoom with him cause we can’t see him cause of lock down and when she says his name I get so happy and think he’s home I start crying and saying “no way he’s home” and my mom says “no he’s not home sorry...” an I keep crying ...

Anyone mind checking out my music? One minute would mean the world to me :) I make and do everything EVERYTHING completely by myself. I’m 15 year old, and all the music is created originally by me from scratch. You will be very surprised. It takes so much hard work and it’s hard to get noticed even if it’s good quality. You won’t regret it. I do not have a ton of money, and this is all I can do to show my hard work.

My parents separated a long time ago staying in the same home, but they never got divorced cause they wanted me to grow up ‘in a normal family environment’ and understand things about life before they parted. I’m grateful for everything they have done for me, but sometimes I wonder, the home would have been more peaceful if they divorced and lived in peace with themselves.

The *family where parents fight* ignoring their kid and the kid’s mental peace end up fucking their child’s life till the end. Fucked up priorities, afraid of love commitments, reluctant to be in a healthy relationship (because all they have seen is toxicity), cocooning themselves in their own world, etc., are some of the issues that take a lifetime to settle. There is so much that can be resolved just with *RIGHT PARENTING* !!

little girl: what’s on your arm? me: they’re battle scars. little girl: you fought in a war? me: yeah. a long and hard one. little girl: that’s so cool! can i get one? me: no. please do not ever get any. but i’ll tell you what. whenever you see someone else with battle scars, i want you to hug them. okay? can you promise me? little girl: yes. i promise. a few days later we went on a short shopping spree. suddenly the little girl let go of my hand and ran up to another random teenager teen: why are you hugging me? little girl: because.. (*points*) you have battle scars just like my babysitter. the teen looked up at me, and i rolled up my sleeves to show her. with tears in her eyes, she said one thing to me.. teen: my war is far from being finished right now, but i am not done fighting. she bends down at eye level with the little girl teen: thanks for giving me the strength to keep . you are forever my war hero. ⚠️ this is not my story, but i saw it somewhere else and decided to share it too because i want you to do the same to anyone with “battle scars” ⚠️

Not exactly a girlfriend boyfriend relationship song. But the chorus dig deep. Sometimes the love of your life aren't the one you live your life with. Sometimes, the best thing you could do to the person you love most is letting them go. Because no matter how hard you try, it won't be enough. And the only way you could make him/her happy is letting him/her meet somebody new. Not because you don't love him/her; but because you couldn't take the regret of keeping her knowing somebody could make him/her happier.

I love how captivating and honest this song is. Yes there is the happy memories but there's also the ones that aren't shown, aren't on video for the world to see, that stays in the back of the cupboard and locked. Not shown but I also love the honestly. The line 'my parents aren't hero's, they're just like me' I love that. I am almost twenty now and I relate to this song and can say even as an adult now, the world is still just as confusing if not more so than when I was a child...but I also see all the traveling and think 'well...at least if I have kids I can do this and I'm glad I left Australia.' (Trying to travel from there...it's expensive.) To everyone that is fighting a battle, you're doing great, don't give up.

Some kids are just lucky to be born into a wealthy family to capture beautiful moments but others didn’t have anyone to do that Edit: Thank you guys for all the stories, advice and anything. I feel you. I know what I’m saying, because I was born from a non wealthy family, until one time when I was in 6th grade my Dad finally had his business great. We went from a tiny rent house, living together with my Dad’s daughter, live in the warehouse where my Dad work for his Boss, until we have our own House and everything starting to be alright. But one thing I know for sure from poor people (not everyone of them) is their mindset and behavior. They’re not ready and didn’t have a plan for the future, so when something hits hard, they’re broke. That’s what happened in my family, when my Dad was having a great business, he cheated on my Mom. But then he came back, so my Mom who’s already broken hearted decided to divorced. Luckily my Mom’s parents (my grandparents) her family and even my Dad’s family were on my Mother’s side. So when our parents divorced they have us, they love us, and they care about us. Throughout the times, my Mother already forgive my Father but she said that she won’t back to him ever. Me and my 2 other siblings respect that. And now I’m in a college, trying to fix anything and build my own dinasty. Having a good education to form a great family. Trying to get us from this bad time. One thing I know for sure. *Money doesn’t always bring happiness, but with money happiness can be reach easier*

well it necessarily doesn't have to mean that wealth brings happiness. wealth always don't bring you happiness. the perfection of parents is the important thing...sometimes happiness can be there even if you are not wealthy..if you can eat, go to school, live under a roof and have a nice cooperative parents. Isn't that enough to be happy?

Anonymous Playlist I never mentioned that only wealths brings you happiness. I’m just saying that not all moments in our life can be filmed or shot. So when we’re adults, we can’t watch it as a nostalgia. (Sorry for my poor English)

This song is so relatable 😔 The “My parents aren’t hero’s, they’re just like me” hit me because my mom blames me for being stupid like my dad but I’m also half of her so she don’t understand me 😕 then “try my best not to get hurt” I became into a more Mature kid now but sometimes I wanna be a kid but so my mom makes me cry and I understand what’s she’s going through because if my Dad just listens then everything.. will be Happy.

my mom and i had a talk in the car and this song was playing and i explained the lyrics and i started to cry bc when you get older you really do realize that the things that happened in our childhoods thats just how life goes it hurts to know we cant go back but we can move foward . my mom and step-dad always fought and when i was younger i wished that someday he would change but now i realize wishes dont come true but as a kid from a dysfunctional family i can say that lie gets better bc noting lasts forever whether its good or bad everything eventually comes to an end. dont give up because although life is hard your not alone keep pushing and trust me it will be worth it. your life has a meaning and your past and your families mistakes do not define you.♥︎

I feel like those teenage years aren't hormones or being ungrateful, they're realizing how bad your parents really were. (Except for the occasional parenting) When you grow older, you're forced to believe that it was just hormones.
