Those packers behind the harrow brought back memories. I likely referred to this previously. I worked on the Flexi-Coil advertising with my Uncle Em back in 1963 or so. The reverse twist left a unique pattern in the field that was supposed to cut down on erosion. My Uncle Em liked the word "unique". How does one tell the owner of a company that perhaps we should use a different word rather than keep repeating "unique". The answer is, "Carefully". Uncle Em left this earth far too soon as those left on this earth are prone to think. (By the way, Uncle Em is in the Agricultural Hall of Fame at the U of S, Saskatoon Campus.)

@@tetedur377 One of the features of the Flexi-Coil was that they were fairly indestructible. That was stressed in the early advertisements. The competitors who manufactured the crowfoot packer could break a wheel on a big stone.

Cool 😎 My grandparents farmed by Radisson back then. I married into the Friggstads; as in Friggstad Manufacturing. I love hearing stories from the 60s, 70s & 80s.

@@mienafriggstad3360 Flexi-Coil bought the assets of Friggstad Manufacturing in the early 1980's. I had already moved to Calgary by then. Olaf Friggstad had many awards and even the Order of Canada. Frontier was never the same. Flexi-Coil was sold to New Holland in the late 1990's. (now Case IH New Holland) My Uncle Em saw his son Terry playing with an old car coil spring in the sand. Uncle Em was intrigued with the marks left by the coil spring. My father helped build the first machine to turn out the coils. (Note that Uncle Em did not want to form a company at the start but no major machine company wanted to built the coil packer.) Dad named the company after a Flexi-Coil Notepad lying on his desk. Uncle Em called my father, Harv. They were cousins. When my father passed away in 1997 in Creston, BC, Flexi-Coil flew their company Citation Jet plane to Creston from Saskatoon filled with 12 relatives plus the pilot and co-pilot. That is quite the memory. My father did not become part of the company because his father (grandpa) wanted my father to concentrate his efforts on making the Summach Depth Control. (It was a patented idea that fell out of favour in the early 1950's.)

It is very refreshing Jan that you feel comfortable in sharing your Homer J Simpson "DOH" Moments with us Fans! That Smile/Smirk @ 5:00 was A Beauty as it was apparent you were ready to bust a gut while confessing your Air Filter Sins! I appreciate you keeping it real. Pretty sure most people wouldn't have divulged that information. Being humble at any age is a blessing to be sure! Awesome Drone Shots as you ran The Swather over those weeds! Cool to see those Turkey Vultures up close! Wonder if they hang around in your area come Winter or if they head South?!? Yes, buy a case (12) of the filters. They cost less by the case, and you have them ready in the house when you need them. Also, set a memorable day of the month, and change the filter every month on that day. Like tomorrow, the 1st of the month. Setting habits like this for routine house maintenance tasks makes it much easier to remember to do them when needed. And timely maintenance of equipment keeps it working well -- something you know from the farm!

The turkey vulture (Cathartes aura) is the most widespread of the New World vultures.[2] One of three species in the genus Cathartes of the family Cathartidae, the turkey vulture ranges from southern Canada to the southernmost tip of South America. It inhabits a variety of open and semi-open areas, including subtropical forests, shrublands, pastures, and deserts. (And dairy farms in Asquith Sk)

I just don't understand the whole "invasive" species, plants or animals, movement; it's all one planet. Who appointed humans as the caretakers? It's a losing battle, just forget about it, humans will never control Mother Nature (environment) and the Billions of dollars saved can be used for better things, like world peace!

Clogged filters can very easily burn up the compressor. Filters are a cheap item to replace often. It also allows the unit to run more efficiently using less electricity. Fishing the manure pump out of the lagoon would not be fun. Great video and thanks.

Something we use to remind us about HVAC filter changing, a calendar on the wall. We mark down all the house maintenance reminders on that calendar. You can even hang it on the inside of a cabinet or utility door, but you must train yourself to take note of it. $300.00 will buy a lot of filters. Buy a big pack.

You know....that's twice with that manure rig that you "just happened" to see something sketchy on it....the first time was the 2 bolts that sheared off, now this ! Wow....might pay to do a once over on that every time before you move it ! THAT's why your sister had to use that tractor today !

Not worth the risk. Filters are lik $1.5 -$2US. For that service call Jan could have paid for 14 years of filters. But he could probably get away with changing them every 2 months in winter, when it's less dusty. After doing it a few months, Jan should be able to see if they need changing this month.

We bought an old citrus grove to build our tractor dealership on. I think those row beds had been there at least 75 years. We had it disced and harrowed at least 15 times (2 40acres) all it had to do was rain hard and there were the rows again. The ground won.

@timothymbonham4453

A permanently installed electric pump for the manure lagoon might be an enhancement to consider. Electric pumps are cheaper to run and need less maintenance. Then you could haul manure anytime with only 1 tractor, instead of needing a second one to power the pump. Of course, since you already have the tractors, using them involves no capital expenditure on an electric pump. So there might be better places in the operation to invest your money.

Jan, my 2 cents, bale up those weeds but don’t feed them or use them for bedding. Best to throw them away. The weed seeds will pass right through the cows and will be an issue when you spread the manure. Same if you use it for bedding.

Fat Hen (lambs quarters) is a pain. I read that they can produce up to 2500000 seeds per plant. If you feed the seeds to your cows the seeds will come round again in the manure. We also call it manure weed. I find planting rye very beneficial to control it. I like its cousin oak leaved goosefoot. It has very tasty red flower heads. But it can be a pain too, the plants are very difficult to pull up, the branches just break off at ground level and it keeps on growing.
