10:24 isn't the answer D because you can't put any punctuation between the designation/title of the person and their name? I think that would be a better explanation for option D.
@epicexamprep4 ай бұрын
Hello! I see what you are saying but the key issue being tested in this question is the proper use of punctuation to indicate non-essential information, rather than a rule specifically about names and titles. The phrase "claims dendrochronologist Valerie Trouet" is non-essential information, meaning the sentence would still be grammatically complete if this phrase were removed. Because it is non-essential, it should be enclosed in punctuation marks (in this case commas) that clearly set it off from the rest of the sentence. If you remove "claims dendrochronologist Valerie Trouet," the sentence still makes sense: "With four millennia of climate data in its tree rings, a single tree like this can tell the history of the world." Since the phrase is non-essential, it can be correctly punctuated with a pair of commas, dashes, or parentheses. In this case, the commas before "claims" and after "Trouet" are already correctly setting off the non-essential information, so we don't need any additional punctuation after "dendrochronologist." The confusion about names and titles comes from a different, though related, rule that applies when determining if names and titles themselves are essential or non-essential. In this case, the emphasis is not on whether to punctuate around a title/name but rather on correctly identifying and punctuating a non-essential clause. Hope that helps! =)
@musicalpotato2002-c1z4 ай бұрын
for the question at 13:50, Can you explain why C is wrong because the phrase (lawyer and cycling advocate is non-essential and therefore can be removed). Option C does this through Moreover, lawyer and cycling advocate, Ernesto...... I think this is right because the lawyer description can be removed and it still makes sense- Moreover, Ernesto ..... You eliminated C right away because you said there was only one comma and no others near but there is a comma next to moreover that I think can be used.
@epicexamprep4 ай бұрын
I see where you're coming from with the idea that 'lawyer and cycling advocate' might seem non-essential. However, in this particular case, the phrase 'lawyer and cycling advocate' directly identifies Ernesto Hernandez-Lopez, providing essential context about who he is. This means the phrase is essential, and therefore, we don’t use commas to separate it from the name. The comma after "Moreover" is used to separate the transition word from the main clause and is not related to the assessment of whether a clause is essential or non-essential. So, when assessing whether a clause is essential or non-essential, you would look at the information that comes after the transition word and not the comma immediately following the transition word itself. This is always true on the SAT! Does this answer your question? I hope so! =)

36:09 Please how exactly is this Granted? A detailed explanation please
@epicexamprep4 ай бұрын
Yes sure! Here’s why "Granted" is the correct choice: The first sentence emphasizes how Modernista architects were inspired by nature in their designs. The second sentence introduces a specific example (the wavy exterior wall and botanical window dressings) and acknowledges that, despite being nature-inspired, these elements are not literally natural (e.g., they cannot grow in a forest). The word "Granted" serves to admit this exception or limitation while still reinforcing the overall idea. It's essentially saying, "Yes, it's true that these architectural elements can't actually grow in a forest, but that doesn't detract from the fact that they are inspired by nature." The other options do not fit as well: "Similarly" suggests a comparison, which doesn't make sense here. "Furthermore" adds information, but the sentence is more about acknowledging an exception rather than adding a new point. "Thus" implies a conclusion, which isn't the purpose of this sentence. Therefore, Granted is correct! Hope this helps! =) =)

58:46 I believe the answer to this question should be B. I understand this passage like this: a hypothesis -> a contradictory evidence appears -> answer: that hypothesis is not accurate/not enough. The problem I have with choice C is that the text didn't mention any previous findings that support the hypothesis. In fact, the presented finding contradicts and isn't consistent with the hypothesis. A is wrong because of the word "most", the finding just found several. D is kind of out of scope because we're trying to answer if moths emit these pulses to save metabolic costs or not.
@epicexamprep4 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I appreciate how carefully you've analyzed the passage and the options-it's clear you're really thinking critically about this. I see where you're coming from with Option B, especially if you interpret the findings as contradicting the hypothesis. However, here's why I would still say Option C is the correct choice: The passage presents a hypothesis that moths might emit ultrasonic pulses because it's less metabolically costly than producing noxious chemicals. The findings by Homziak et al. suggest that some moths emitting these pulses are also unpalatable to bats. This doesn't contradict the hypothesis; rather, it shows that these traits can coexist. Option C correctly captures this by suggesting that disrupting echolocation and being unpalatable are not mutually exclusive. It acknowledges that the situation is more complex but doesn't dismiss the original hypothesis. My reasoning for discarding B is that you mentioned that the findings contradict the hypothesis. However, the passage doesn’t present them as contradictory. Instead, it suggests that moths can possess both defensive traits. The study doesn’t argue that ultrasonic pulses aren’t a lower-cost alternative; it just reveals that some moths have developed both strategies. Thus, for that reasoning.. Option B incorrectly suggests that the hypothesis is inaccurate or incomplete, but the study doesn’t disprove it-just shows that multiple defenses can coexist. What do you think? Thanks for questioning and sharing your thoughts!! =)
@AcceptAbbey4 ай бұрын
@@epicexamprep Thanks for explaining 🥰! Here are my thoughts: "The passage presents a hypothesis that moths might emit ultrasonic pulses because it's less metabolically costly than producing noxious chemicals. The findings by Homziak et al. suggest that some moths emitting these pulses are also unpalatable to bats." If moths really emit pulses because it's less costly than chemicals, they wouldn't ALSO produce chemicals that make them unpalatable. This suggests they must have done it for another reason or at least, the reason in the hypothesis is not enough. I think this finding is not consistent with the hypothesis, that's why I wouldn't choose C. I do think that the second phrase of option C: both traits can coexist is true though. I don't think option B disproves the hypothesis completely. It's saying that the hypothesis LIKELY does not account for all instances of the trait, which is true. Because if the hypothesis is 100% correct, the moths wouldn't use both strategies, which will be more metabolically costly than using only the pulses.
@dylanmichael17344 ай бұрын
I agree with @trongbuctranhcuaanh540 because the text never mentions a hypothesis about the low metabolic cost of producing noxious chemicals. In fact, the only hypothesis given to us in the text emphasizes a higher metabolic cost to produce chemicals than to emit ultrasonic pulses. In addition, what previous findings are discussed in the text supporting this hypothesis?

I have few q.Could you please help me with the answers.I got confused since my prediction and gpt's prediction differed and I really couldn't find the accurate ans. Here are 3 q's: 19. Sociologist Todd Gitlin co-opted the term "recombinant," normally used in reference to genetic engineering, to describe serialized television shows of the 1980s. Gitlin's use of the term referenced TV studios' practice of repackaging successful narrative formulas as new _____ even shows that varied only slightly from other shows still attracted sizeable audiences. Which choice completes the text so that it conforms to the conventions of Standard English? A. content, in that era, B. content in that era, C. content, in that era D. content; in that era, 20. Jeffery Renard Allen's short essay on "backwall," a word referring to the cliff at the head of a glacier-carved valley, is included in the collection Home Ground: A Guide to the American Landscape. The book wasn't written solely by _____other authors, such as Carolyn Servid and Barry Lopez, also contributed essays. Which choice completes the text so that it conforms to the conventions of Standard English? A. Allen; however, B. Allen, however; C. Allen. However, D. Allen, however, 27. While researching a topic, a student has taken the following notes: ● The Mohs scale of mineral hardness is a ten-point scale that orders minerals by hardness based on their ability to scratch other minerals. ● Minerals with larger numbers are harder than minerals with smaller numbers and can leave visible scratches on them. ● Minerals with smaller numbers are softer than minerals with larger numbers and cannot leave visible scratches on them. ● The mineral calcite has a Mohs scale number of 3. ● The mineral apatite has a Mohs scale number of 5. ● The mineral corundum has a Mohs scale number of 9 The student wants to make a generalization about minerals. Which choice most effectively uses relevant information from the notes to accomplish this goal? A. Based on their Mohs scale numbers, corundum (9) is harder than apatite (5), and apatite is harder than calcite (3). B. Corundum can leave visible scratches on calcite, which is why corundum has a higher number than calcite on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. C. Any mineral with a Mohs number of 9, like corundum, can scratch a mineral with a Mohs number of 5, like apatite.

Hello! ChatGPT cannot be trusted when it comes to English grammar (at least not at the time of this post hah)...okay, so 19. Sociologist Todd Gitlin co-opted the term "recombinant," normally used in reference to genetic engineering, to describe serialized television shows of the 1980s. Gitlin's use of the term referenced TV studios' practice of repackaging successful narrative formulas as new ___ even shows that varied only slightly from other shows still attracted sizeable audiences. Which choice completes the text so that it conforms to the conventions of Standard English? A. content, in that era, B. content in that era, C. content, in that era D. content; in that era, This is D. These would be 2 complete sentences: Gitlin's use of the term referenced TV studios' practice of repackaging successful narrative formulas as new content ; in that era, even shows that varied only slightly from other shows still attracted sizeable audiences. 20. Allen. However, D. Allen, however, This choice is B. It is talking about the book (Home Ground) mentioned in the previous sentence, so the contrast belongs in second sentence (like option B makes it). The option you wrote to your third question is incomplete (it is missing D)...However, no worries...I know this question: While researching a topic, a student has taken the following notes: ●The Mohs scale of mineral hardness is a ten-point scale that orders minerals by hardness based on their ability to scratch other minerals. ●Minerals with larger numbers are harder than minerals with smaller numbers and can leave visible scratches on them. ●Minerals with smaller numbers are softer than minerals with larger numbers and cannot leave visible scratches on them. ●The mineral calcite has a Mohs scale number of 3. ●The mineral apatite has a Mohs scale number of 5. ●The mineral corundum has a Mohs scale number of 9. The student wants to make a generalization about minerals. Which choice most effectively uses relevant information from the notes to accomplish this goal? A. A mineral with a Mohs number of 6, like orthoclase, is harder than one with a Mohs number of 3, like calcite. B. Topaz can leave visible scratches on calcite, which means that topaz is harder than calcite. C. Topaz can leave visible scratches on orthoclase, which is why topaz has a higher number than orthoclase on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. D. The Mohs scale of mineral hardness can be used to order minerals, like calcite and topaz, by their ability to scratch other minerals. It would be option D. A, B, and C are all citing specific instanced. Option D makes a general statement about how the Mohs scale can be used to order minerals by their ability to scratch others, aligning with the student's goal. Hope this helps! =)

@epicexamprep4 ай бұрын
First, watch all my videos related to the English section Then I would recommend that you 1. Understand the Test Format Familiarize yourself with the types of questions in the reading and writing sections. Knowing what to expect can help reduce anxiety and increase efficiency during the test. 2. Build a Strong Vocabulary Read regularly: Make it a habit to read a variety of texts, such as fiction, non-fiction, articles, and essays. The more you read, the more you’ll encounter different words and sentence structures. Use vocabulary apps. Personally, I am a fan of this app: www.tyrannosaurusprep.com/sat.html Contextual learning: Pay attention to how words are used in context, not just their definitions. 3. Practice Active Reading Annotate as you read: Practice underlining or highlighting key points in passages and jotting down notes. This helps with retaining information and understanding the structure of the text. Summarize: After reading a passage, try to summarize it in your own words. This reinforces comprehension and helps you recall main ideas. Answer practice questions: Use resources such as the CollegeBoard Questions bank or Khan Academy to practice answering reading comprehension questions. Focus on understanding why an answer is correct or incorrect. 4. Improve Writing Mechanics Grammar and Usage: Make sure you understand basic grammar rules, including subject-verb agreement, punctuation, sentence structure, and verb tenses. The SAT often tests these concepts. 5. Take Practice Tests Simulate the test environment: Take full-length, timed practice tests to get used to the pacing and pressure of the actual test. Review your answers: After completing practice tests, thoroughly review your incorrect answers to understand your mistakes. Use official SAT practice resources: The College Board offers practice tests and questions that are most reflective of the actual test. Use these to your advantage. 6. Learn Time Management Pacing: Work on managing your time effectively during the test. Don’t spend too much time on any one question; it’s better to move on and come back if you have time. Skip and return: If a question is taking too long, flag it and return later if time permits. This strategy ensures you answer the easier questions first. 7. Stay Consistent Daily practice: Dedicate time every day to practice reading and writing, even if it’s just 30 minutes. Consistency is key to improvement. Set goals: Break down your study sessions into manageable goals, such as mastering a particular grammar rule or improving your reading speed. 8. Use Quality Resources Books: Consider using prep books from trusted sources like The College Board. Online platforms: Khan Academy offers free, high-quality SAT practice materials that are especially helpful for the Digital SAT. 9. Stay Positive and Patient Mindset: Improving reading and writing skills takes time and effort. Stay positive and patient with yourself as you progress. Celebrate small victories: Acknowledge improvements, even small ones, as they add up over time. Hope this helps =)
