As much as I admire Mark Rylance, and have never had a critical word to say about any of his performances--ever, I'm afraid I must berate him now, if ever so mildly. I found his recitation of Henry V's St Crispin's day speech--how shall I put it--lackluster, as if perhaps he had just awakened from a long nap. Either he was distracted and his heart wasn't totally committed, or else he was projecting an intentional world-weariness. The latter could certainly be a choice, for Henry (and his 'band of brothers') was doubtlessly battle-weary by that point. But if Henry's intention was to reinvigorate his men with a cri du coeur, the Battle of Agincourt may have had a different outcome after this somnambulatory delivery.🤴💤
