A walkthrough of the last two passages of the writing section from College Board's first SAT practice test. Be sure to watch the first part if you haven't yet. :) Hope this helps you out!
Check out Prepscholar here:
shareasale.com...
Also, this is reuploaded since I explained a question wrong the first time! Thanks to a commenter for pointing it out and making this into a more accurate resource for everyone. Definitely a nice lesson for me on double-checking yourself...good for the SAT and for life XD

Hi Anna! I think for the last question, D is correct not because “their” is more concise than “his or her”, but because “their” would refer to “today’s students” which is plural. Also, technically, the singular they/their/them can be used only when it refers to a person with no gender, not either gender.
@annas-universe
@annas-universe 2 жыл бұрын
Yep--that too! I prolly could have mentioned that. Though about the singular they--it's pretty commonly used even outside of referring to nonbinary people, basically whenever you don't know the gender of someone you're referring to or whenever you want to remain gender neutral. Like, if someone says "my friend went to the store the other day", someone could respond with "did they get milk?".
@jumpyjuice1992
@jumpyjuice1992 2 жыл бұрын
@@annas-universe I did some research into it, and it seems like the singular they is a controversial subject. Although the gender-neutral, singular they has become increasingly acceptable, CB insisted that SAT test takers should use the less progressive “he or she” whenever the gender of a person is not specified. So, the singular they is technically incorrect according to “SAT grammar.” As an aside, some academic organisations such as the APA endorse the singular they.
@annas-universe
@annas-universe 2 жыл бұрын
That's good to know! Yeah it makes sense that CB would be a little behind the times on that XD

Thanks! Good to be back. To maximize your chances if I were you, would make sure your sat score was a mid-1500 or above, be getting nearly all As while taking the most advanced curriculum at your school possible, and excel at whatever extracurricular(s) you are passionate about. This depends on what your interests are..for example, if you play an instrument, try to get some high-level awards that go along with playing that, be the first chair in your section, and/or teach other people how to play or do some creative form of outreach related to it. If you like to program, try designing and marketing an app, entering coding competitions, or teaching others how to code. Basically, putting a creative and impressive spin on the interests you already have is a great way to succeed! This won’t guarantee anything of course since college decisions are very random, but finding what you’re passionate about and working hard now will set you up for success in life, too, even if you don’t get in! :D

Hi Anna I’m taking the psat this October and I’m really hammering down khan academy, Barron’s flash cards, and some prep books. Do you think it’s enough for me to get a score that qualifies for the nmsqt

I might be able to answer this question. I think those materials should be sufficient, but definitely get the official SAT study guide (the blue book).
@annas-universe
@annas-universe 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with Jumpy Juice that those materials should be good! :) I would probably focus most on taking practice tests (either the official ones or the QAS ones available on the r/sat subreddit) once you feel like you have a good handle on the content so you can master the timing of everything and the real format of the test

Hi Anna, do you think I would be able to get an over 1500 score in 6 weeks?
@jumpyjuice1992
@jumpyjuice1992 2 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on your current score. It would be difficult if you are starting from a 1000 for example, but it’s certainly not impossible.

Thanks, I'm around the 1350 score range
@jumpyjuice1992
@jumpyjuice1992 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it will be a hard task considering your current score. To improve, you will need to polish your strong areas and work out the weaker areas. First, you need to identify the weaker areas: do a few mock exams, create a spreadsheet to record your mistakes, and try to find the patterns. Once you are done, work on the areas one by one, and see if you have improved. Do this until you are in the >1500 range. You can find official practice tests on the College Board website and unofficial ones on a page called “50 Official SAT PDFs and 88 Official ACT PDF Practice Tests (Free)”. Unfortunately, I cannot provide the links as my comment will automatically get deleted. I hope that helps!
