yesterday i had a flight for christmas delayed 2 hours, when i got inside the plane i just said "woah" while looking at the sata air azores q400s cockpit so the pilot invited me and i just had the whole 15 minute flight in the cockpit jumpseat at night

Great video. I always love flying on SATA. Been too long since I've been back to the Azores.

In a turbo-prop like the dash, unlike larger jets, cutting off the throttles to idle will cause the plane drop like a rock, so a bit of power is maintained till touchdown. Abviously, the captain here had to apply more power to reduce the rate of descent to be back on the glide slope. That was a Kai Tak/Madeira style landing though :)

03:45 When I fly with the Majestic Dash8 in FSX I also get from time to time the Glideslope warning... I thought this would never happen in real life because of professionalism and so on. Happy to see that this also happens in RL :-)
@andrewanane97158 жыл бұрын
Please explain to me what glide slope means and what you have to do when that warning comes up
@MiguelNunes8 жыл бұрын
The plane was configured to follow the ILS Glide Slope but they performed a manual landing and went below the path hence the warning. You just disregard it because you are flying it manually and have the runway in sight.

Very nice approach, especially the short final turn. But the Crew was busy with the paperwork below 10.000ft, and the PTU, SBY and AUX pump switches was pressed too late - in the base turn (the 2500ft call of the GPWS was 2:30 minutes before). This is a deviation to the SOP! But they managed it for a safe landing. Nice Video
@MiguelNunes7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Most companies have adopted own SOPs. The short final was indeed amazing and you realize that the most when when you fly an aircraft yourself with low experience and over/undershoot many times.

Really like these modern Avionics, but what happens when you lose your "screens"..I am sure they have redundancies built in, but what about analog backups!?. Just wondering...Thx!

How did you get into the pilot cabin?!?!
@slickswings9 жыл бұрын
+Jason1982TB Upon entering the aircraft, make the first left turn and keep walking until you reach the forward most door on the aircraft and you'll reach the flight deck.
@CoroaEntertainment8 жыл бұрын
+Gregory Ho (slickswings) I think Jason meant, how was the person recording the video allowed in the front. It's supposed to be off limits to regular passengers. Only the flight crew (with security clearance) is supposedly allowed in there during the flight.

It is normal since they decided to perform a manual landing and were below the glide slope.
@einherz10 жыл бұрын
so much vibration, is gear problems of this bird?
@IHaulBoxes9 жыл бұрын
einherz with the Dash it's rather difficult to make greased landings. The LG used to be used to be faulty but they resolved that. It lead however to the withdrawal of the DH8D fleet with SAS after numerous incidents of gear collapsing.

Yes I know! I remember, that our Austrian (ex Tyrolean) Pilots trained the SATA Crews few months. I agree that every Company have their own Company Procedure, but SOP (Standart Operation Procedure) is only one acceptable - the Standart!
@MiguelNunes7 жыл бұрын
That's very true! At the beginning at least. Don't agree on your SOP standpoint but hey, that's how it currently is. :p

I was left waiting a all day at the airport for my flight! Only to be told the plain will not be taken off . Had to pay for a taxi to go back home and come back the day after. Was giving a horrifying plain spaghetti dinner! Something thing like dig food. Missing a days work ! Like I said! Worst hairline SATA
@MiguelNunes8 жыл бұрын
You can't judge an airline because of one canceled flight. It's happening every day everywhere for every reason. You had to pay for transport because you are home. If you were somewhere else, you'd get free hotel... Not every airline does that.
@willwaters85536 жыл бұрын
SATA is actually a pretty good airline. Don’t judge a book by its cover. I have had my Air NZ flights cancelled a few times but they are still a good airline

The airline is just fine. It was even recently ranked around top 10 of the airlines with the least delays if I'm not mistaken. Can't find source now. Just an angry customer :)
@davide55596 жыл бұрын
I know you had a bad experience but honestly, I've flown most, if not all the major airlines in North America and I have to say that this airline was the best experience I have ever had flying. I flew from Toronto to Ponta Delgada and then to Horta and back. The flight from P. Delgada to Horta was in bad weather and was a bit nerve wracking to be honest, but the very skilled pilots did an amazing job. I don't know why your flight was delayed but I am sure it was unavoidable. This airline is certainly going to put safety as the primary objective. Every airline will have unavoidable delays from time to time.
