The Shakas of Western Kshatrapa who emerges in Indian History around the middle of the first century AD challenged the existing power of the Satavahanas in the Western Deccan region. In this video, we will discuss the rivalry that continued for 150 years between the Western Kshatraps and the Satavahanas. The different rulers like Nahapana, Gautamiputra Satakarni, and Rudradaman who played an important role in this conflict are also discussed in this video.

Kalyan and Sopara are suburbs of Mumbai today. This seems to beginning of Maharashtra and Gujarat rivalry over ports that continues till date. The Satvahanas had access to ports on both coast of India what a trade they must be having with both eastern and western countries 🤑 It would have been nice to see some visuals of Naneghat caves in Maharashtra that have Bramhi inscription by Naganika queen of Gautamiputra Satkarni. And also the inscriptions at Pandavleni in Nashik by Nahapan.
@JayVardhanSingh
@JayVardhanSingh 2 жыл бұрын
The visuals of Naneghat is in the previous video that talk about early Satavahanas. And the inscription talks about an early Satavahana king Satakarni not Gautamiputra Satakarni. The most important inscription about Gautamiputra is a prashasti commissioned by his mother Gautami Balashri.

Step by step ...you explained very nicely.. Indeed that time, there were incidence of shuffling of power between Saka and satvahana. Correct me if i am wrong but, we find Nahapan and Gautamiputra satkarni's inscription in Nashik cave. Btw I am from Kalyan and was not aware about Kalyan being one of important port for Satvahana. These 3 ports are today's Bharuch, Nala sopara and Kalyan. 1) But Periplus of Erythrean Sea pronounce Bharuch as Bargyaza then how come you come across the name Bharukachcha 2) Rudradaman used Pure sanksrit to write his inscription, the ayodhya inscription (by Dhana) are also in Sanskrit and belong to earlier period then why Rudradaman is said to have used Chaste Sanskrit for the first time (read it somewhere). Do you have rubbing for these inscription by Rudradaman? I sometime wonder, many people from Gujarat/Sindh living among us could be Saka origin.:)
@JayVardhanSingh
@JayVardhanSingh 2 жыл бұрын
Thank You In Nashik caves, we have inscriptions of Gautamiputra Satakarni and Ushavadaata who was the son-in-law of Nahapana. The term Bharukachchha appear in ancient Indian texts. About the inscription of Dhana, historians aren't sure about the date of that inscription, so we can't say with certainty which one is older. And Rudraman's inscription is not the oldest inscription to use Sanksrit. There are some inscriptions that are found in Mathara that uses more archaic Brahmi than the one used in Rudradamans inscription. Here is the rubbing, but it's not clear archive.org/details/EpigraphiaIndica/page/n61/mode/2up

What is your opinion on the mid chronology of Satavahanas proposed by Dr. Dehejia and Shailendra Bhandare, and later corrected by Anrew Ollett? Based on this Satakarni I (88-42 BCE) rule lines up with Bahasatamita and Demetrius III(all three names mentioned by Kharavela), Gautamiputra Sri Satakarni comes to power towards the end of Nahapana's rule, Gautamiputra's grandson Vasisthiputra Sri Satakarni was the one in conflict with Rudraraman. Gautamiputra Sri Satakarni (ca. 60-84 CE) Vasisthiputra Sri Pulumavi (ca. 84-119 CE) Vasisthiputra Sri Satakarni (ca. 119-148 CE) Vasisthiputra Sivasri Pulumavi (ca. 148-156 CE) Vasisthiputra Sriskanda Satakarni (ca. 156-170 CE) Gautamiputra Sriyajña Satakarni (ca. 171-199 CE). Also, Gautamiputra Sri Satakarni is beleived to have conquered the Northern parts of the remaining Mahameghavahana territorry. There was a paper by Shailendra Bhandare on the coins of the Sadas who seem to have continued the Mahameghavahana line after the northern portion was conquered Gautamiputra Sri Satakarni in the Andhra region around Amravati. Vasisthiputra Sri Pulumavi later conquered the rest of Mahameghavahana territorry since Sada coins got replaced by Pulumavi coins.

It's not correct that root of क्षत्रप is from Iran. It's clear that this has come from Sanskrit क्षेत्र, which is again from root क्षत्र - to protect. This completely rhymes with work of Kshtraps. Persia and western India region was the birthbed for common culture, language and scriptures. That's why there is so much similarity between now Iranian culture and Indian culture. I have a question: Why did Indian Government adopted Saka calendar as national calendar instead of much older Vikram Samwat? Vikram Samwat is a proper calendar which is used by majority areas in India throughout all of Eastern India, North Western India, Northeast India, Central India, South Indian States of Tamilnadu and Kerala and Some parts of Coastal Karnataka too. There's debate on this. The claim that the Maharashtra region was the origin homeland of the Satavahanas is based on the fact that the region of Pratishthana which was the base of the early Satavahanas was in Northern Maharasthra. Whereas those who support the Andhra Origin theory base their claim on the Puranas where the Satavahanas are called Andhra/Andhrabhritya. Historians are divided on this issue and I also don't think that without any new evidence we can solve this puzzle. I hope I was able to answer this question.

During Satavahanas time there was no Maratti, No Telugu but the language was Dravidian , either Proto telugu or Proto Dravidian. They also had souraseni , that gave rise to Maratti and Gujarati in the Malwa to Paitan on the west , and the area South of Ganga in the east where Pali was spoken predominantly. They were a tribe , probably Naga origin and had over 100 straps ruling from Malwa to Magatha. Later they were called Anthras by the Puranic people who have the habit of obliterating the native names substituting Sanskriti names. Satavahan is anglicused name for. Satakarnis in Sanskrit which means 100 ears. Ancient Tamil literature Silappathikaram terms them as. " Nutruvar Kannar" ( 100 ears). Kannar, Karna, Krishna are all names called in different ways . Satakarni Pulumavi's coins of First Century BC , has. Both Souraseni and Proto Dravidian legends recording his name as " Vasithhi Putra SRI PULUMAVI / VASITHHI MAGAN THIRU PULUMAVI" . THEY HAD A LONG STANDING FEUD WITH ARYAN KINGS NORTH OF GANGA RIVER. MAHABHARAT STORY HAS ELEMENTS OF THIS STRUGGLE AND FEUD BETWEEN THEM.
