Also burglars are not in the game because EA that don't want to make an appearance in the game. EA would rather not have their character be visual.

One thing I always notice whenever I play the Sims 2 again is just how much naturally spicier romance options and kisses there are, they just have a lot more feeling behind it without being too much or anything, or how heavy the reactions would be to certain things like adultery, that just adds a bunch more spice and intensity with there even being kids' reactions, and I have a feeling that the whole "playing safe" is exactly why everything is muted and toned down, like the saturation has just been turned wayyyyy down on literally every more dramatic fun or risky aspect, which leaves it with barely any life

My theory for a long time has been that Sims 4 caters to a player base that includes young children, that parents allow their kids, 4-10 years old or so, to play the game, and EA chooses to dumb it down and make it more innocent so it's more family-friendly. As you rightly said, it's about the money, and if parents are buying packs and kits for their kids, EA will go where the money is. I'd be fine with that, if they'd give us hard-mode or grown-up mode or something. It's just too beige to play right now, and I have no expectation of anything better for the next one.

I'm an older Sims player, noted, I purchased the first Sims game when it came out and had my own content out there long before Sims2 earthed. Now, while all that earlier stuff is a bit dated, I never really felt as if Maxis/EA was out of touch with it's players until Sims4, when I looked at game play trailers and went wtf is that?? Remember the big deal they made about Bro-this and that, and all that angry pooping? My thoughts was that the creators were trying just a bit too hard to connect with younger generations... This hasn't changed. They still look to be trying too hard.... Look at pronouns, seriously, in a Sims world, wtf is that? Cause Sims just don't use them, at least not in English. They could have quietly removed gender from notifications (I'm not sure if they use it or not, on thinking about it) but otherwise, Sims never cared... they will Hate, Love, Chat, Ignore, and so on, any other sims regardless of most things, there was never an issue and we could use our **** imaginations to create our own scenarios. If anything, I just wish we had more personal control over the game without constantly being prodded to play in any certain way... like with seasons and having to have my Sims constantly disappointed if they don't partake in holidays because I can't have them maybe hate those holidays and love not participating in them. To me, those are bigger issues as far as games go. Noted, I am delighted that I can have so much more control in the physical CAS than before, a prime example where less constraints are better. Who knows, maybe they will have male, female and an option that's neither, so we can be even more creative!

@@second_second_ people care if they are addressed using the wrong ones and I don't just mean those who don't use the he/him or she/her that correspond to their birth assigned sex. I'm pretty sure the kind of right wing guy who rants about people using other pronouns will be upset if someone keeps referring to them as she. In the Sims world though, it does feel like tokenism rather than anything meaningful in gameplay, as I can't think how they are actually used in game. On the other hand, going beyond a gender binary is important and does affect gameplay (e.g. whether Sims can give birth)

It's honestly so disrespectful of EA towards older players to treat us like we're dimwits.

I think this last summit showed they are really trying to get the younger demo (who were those guests??). Which I get, new players and everything. It would be nice that instead of making expansion and game packs for everyone, that they would make them for the different ages of players. It seems that the packs are all rated "T" for teens, although most Sims players are adults (and apparently there are parents out there who allow their pre-teen children to play games rated for a higher age group). Here's an idea. How about throwing an "M" rated pack in there once in a while? I miss the drama of the Sims 2 & 3. I miss playing the Sims games where actions have consequences. Take for instance cheating. In the Sims 4 there are practically no consequences for cheating, while in the Sims 2 & 3, not only did your relationship with your significant other take a hit, but your sim's relationships in the community took a hit as well. You could actually lose friendships if other people saw your sim cheating on their spouse/fiance'. You could be labeled as a "cheater" and have problems getting into another relationship because of it. The range of detecting cheating encompassed a larger range than just being in the same room. I had a sim once in the Sims 3, who fell in love with a married sim (totally their idea, not mine). But once the flirtation and attraction became a thing between those two, I had them meet in obscure places where there were no other sims (like you would in real life). Somewhere along the way, the married sim got divorced and left their spouse. I found this out only when, during an interaction, the option for becoming engaged was present. This was all behind the scenes. As I didn't play the married sim, I had no idea that all this other drama had taken place. In this day and age, I have no idea why this is not in the Sims 4. It's not like everything in the real world is perfect and no one cheats and no one gets divorced. For a game that boasts "real life" playing, it really doesn't. Considering it is the parents who buy packs for those too young to afford them on their own, if they were to buy a pack that was rated "Mature," then it is only themselves they have to blame if their precious little ones are exposed to actual real life situations. They would make a lot more money if they catered to older players and made a pack or two just for us. Us, meaning the players who actually have the money, who know how the real world works and would like to play a simulation game that deals with the bad as well as with all of the good.

I always find it ironic how, when they released Snowy Escape there was that whole shitstorm (you guessed it, on Twitter) about (a small minority of) Korean players feeling like bowing at aa shrine IN THE JAPANESE PACK was insensitive to Korean players because it represents Shinto (which in Japan is literally just normal everyday life, it's not even a religion it's just culture) or like when in the trailer you see a pattern which woke people said it was a reference to the Japanese Imperial flag (and turns out it was just a FAN, LIKE A HAND FAN) and EA RUSHED to remove that function (or rather hide it, the function is still there in the code and there is a mod to get it back) in order to appease the Koreans. What's ironic is that when the pack released, if you go and look at assets like the torii gates around town, you can CLEARLY see the Imperial crest which i would assume is far more of a symbol of Japanese oppression than something like Shinto which is normal, common everyday life in Japan. Anyway, that whole debacle soured me irreparably against the Sims fandom.
@agsheuehd
@agsheuehd 2 жыл бұрын
I just wanted to point out it was actually a controversial but serious matter in Korea, because of Japanese occupation of Korea that lasted 35 years and the trauma has been passed down for generations, which is actually gotten way better over time. Bowing at the shinto was one of the thing that was forced upon Koreans to brainwash them during that period. You can say get over it since it happend 70 years ago but for many Koreans, it's like get over holocaust because it happend 70 years ago. And not to mention that, there are a lot of people who get mad over "cultural apporiation". But then again, it's weird that people didn't notice the imperial crest.

To me, the people who call people out for “being offensive” (like what you meant with the catfish one) really just pretend to be some savior of the downtrodden. I am 100% convinced white teenage girls are in some sort of competition to see who can become offended on the behalf of minorities more. Representation is absolutely important, but I hate that now I have to wonder if the non-white or non-straight protagonist in the video game is the developers trying to represent more communities, or just trying to get money from those communities. that part about the gay pride flag is accurate. I'm queer myself and I have nothing against people who are in the community and called themselves queer. Some people see it as a slur which I get, but honestly, if someone was to call me queer as a slur, I don't really care. It reminds me of how there is an updated pansexual flag which I think is very ugly. Apparently, the original flag is problematic, which makes no sense. I'm not pansexual myself but I have read stuff from people who are and don't have a problem with the flag.

One very good piece of advice I got was “don’t apologise if you haven’t done anything wrong”. Now I’m not assuming you’re apologising I’m just saying it to anyone who needs to hear it. It a world where everyone gets offended for anything, just because someone claims you have offended them it doesn’t mean you actually did something wrong and should apologise. Most people are nice enough to make up their minds themselves about their behaviour and what is right or wrong.

Agree. It’s because they wanted to make it more family friendly. The lack of sex is not because of progressivism, it’s because of conservative parents. My dad was one of them when I was growing up so I could play violent games before I could play sims because the violent games didn’t have sex. It’s also their need to squeeze money out of their audience. The base game is okay but a few expansions are almost required for play (pets, seasons, parenthood). Then the DLC’s require DLC’s because they don’t have all the necessary items. They published an unfinished, childish game because they knew that children would persuade their parents to buy the packs. That’s literally the entire issue behind the sims 4. It’s not because they are progressive lol

One of my most memorable moments from Sims is the alien pooing on the toilet in one of the Sims 2 games where your Sims walks into their house and this alien yells at them to get the heck out. After the alien is done, the toilet is radioactive. Sims 4 could never. It's things like that making the past games fun for everyone. The shock of what just happened. The moments of Sims walking to the middle of the pool to read books, or running across the ocean/lake to get to work. Which were great glitches lol. Not having the ability to have those moments anymore really sucks. It sucks tht past games had more of "everything" for everyone. It sucks to get my game to even have one of those OMG that just happened LOL 😂 moments you need mods. Yes, random things happen in Sims 4, but those are like getting a C instead of an A.

What grinds my gears about this whole Sims 4 community is the constant demand that EA "includes more (minority) cultures". There are so many people that ask for very specific cultures to be included, like Thai, Vietnamese, etc. But let's be honest, if you include SOME cultures, there's going to be more and more people that demand THEIR specific culture must also be included and it will ultimately bloat the game. There are MILLIONS of cultures on the planet that do not get enough representation! You cannot include everyone like this, it's simply not feasable. I wish EA would simply make up a small number of fantasy cultures/religions specifically for the Sims. They kind of did this in The Sims Medieval with the Watcher religion. If you still want YOUR specific culture to be in the Sims, there is custom content for it. And if there is not, learn how to make it yourself just like every other CC creator did!

When I used to call the sims 4 a “liberal hellscape” that didn’t mean I hated diversity or progressive ideals. I simply just felt that the game’s atmosphere was as preformative; ineffectual and condescending as the American Democrat party. Simply because the game when I started playing it wanted to look like a inclusive utopia but the black people had very little variation in skin tone. Now I just call it a “Hipster Hellscape” because the game has probably been more proactive with making better changes than the party’s ever been. I really admire the Sim’s 4 dedication to adding diversity, just wish they’d keep this energy up with the actual game mechanics.

From the time of the Sims to the Sims 3, technology in general still wasn’t all that advanced so people still had some free will and things could get chaotic. The Sims 4 era came and the vibe it gives me is “Big Brother is watching.” Townies know your name, number, and whereabouts, they come to your door for the welcome wagon as if compelled to do so; Strangerville townies are actually possessed though they might as well all be. I don't have much hope for the original sense of humor to come back in Sims 5. I wish, but it's just not likely. as for the "Sims has always been woke" argument, Sims has always been liberal but it wasn't ever woke, it was a life sim where you could do what you wanted with your own characters, woke would be the snowflake generation as you say, you can see it in the marketing, they want the appeal to the people who actually give a shit about black-white trans lesbian relationships and not to people who just... want to play the game, I mean for such a wacky game you think they would realize that being both wacky and only showing fat ugly lesbians would be... somewhat negative? I love sims 3 because it was perfect, I don't mind "woke" shows if they can be done right, like Doom Patrol, it has a character with DID, something modern tiktokers love to fake, but its an actual extreme of that and makes it her character in a good way, they made a superhero gay, but that aids his story, they have a whole ass they/them character, but its a goddamn town, bricks don't got gender. Tl;dr, there's woke, liberal, and progressive, and most old properties fall into the latter two. Edit: For the saints row reboot thing, the OG game was diverse, the main cast was an asian, hispanic, black, and white guy for the first game, than the second was a black guy, a hispanic(?) woman, and another black guy with tons of diverse gang members, however the diversity was simply the fact it was a city, and the gang members, where gang members. Look at the new saints row cast, you got just the most "Hello fellow kids" crew out there, they look woke as well, woke people have a very obnoxious and bright style, they also have a really weird fascination with making spanish characters speak both spanish and english interchangeably which is annoying but once more. tl;dr saints was liberal, not woke.

The high school pack doesn’t work because like 3 students show up and half the time they stand there trying to figure out where to go. It feels so incomplete. But EA doesn’t care because they added the words slay and bestie and that’s all that matters now. Other EPs have similar issues. What is the point of a wedding pack if my sims can’t even have a wedding that works?! I had sims die at a wedding from hot weather because they wouldn’t go inside the venue even though it had doors lmao. But EA would rather cater to twitter snowflakes than make the sims packs playable.

@@XanderHarris1023 y'know what, that does ring a bell Also don't worry too much, I don't really like the use of the term snowflake, not actually because of the reason I stated above but because I do in fact believe that when people voice concerns about silly things it does usually come from a good place: they care. Also I educated my (unfortunately tory) dad not to use "snowflake" unironically, not just because it's unpleasant but also because I fall into several categories that would probably get me branded by conservatives as one However, I also believe in finding a balance. Some people make a big deal out of representation to the point that it disrupts your appreciation of media. (I mean I've done it myself and it's not good for your mental health tbh.) Similarly to what satch said in the video where he got backlash for the one white sim being not a catfish (despite having several similar videos where this was not the case; diversity rep was spread around) I'm a writer and I have a... Slight dilemma. I have several series in the works. In one, the MC is white and the other important characters are fantastical. In another, the MC is black. But, will the first one get backlash for that? Will it be called racist? Even in I have other books that have MCs of various nationalities? (The answer is: yes, probably.) Similarly, I see people who complain if a villain is gay, because it's "not good rep". Sadly, there is the stigma of creepy gay men in the film industry, so I agree there should indeed be more "good" gay rep. However, this usually results in tokenisation, which is honestly just annoying. (This is coming from a gay person btw.) Personally, I love a good gay villain. I don't even care if they're the only gay in film or whatever, I believe what matters more is how the writers and directors treat gay characters over all. So please, don't worry. I most certainly do not go around calling people "snowflakes". I just get tired of a few rotten apples

It's not just an EA problem but the entire entertainment industry. Unfortunately the Snowflake are the ones that "scream the loudest" and therefore the industry believes that it is a reflection of what the majority wants. TS4 had a bad conception due to the failure of Simcity, EA could have delayed the release date but preferred to sell it even though it was incomplete, then they tried to make people happy through free updates but this was not enough due to the low quality of the packs they made . So they started riding the Snowflakes wave, however this was just a simple front as bugs continued to grow in the game.

I find it funny that my generation is called snowflakes. Gen Z and I’m a trans man, everyone I know in my generation is pretty chill about things. It’s more people who are in the generation above me that I’ve seen do these crazy woke things. I love being able to have non binary sims but understand that not everyone will, I don’t like the sexuality system. My generations loved saints row 4, GTA5, call of duty and we also are much more openly sexual, kinky and no interested in marriage. I want diversity but I also enjoy what was in the Sims before 4 cause it was fun.

Even if the sims did add more culture I feel simmers still wouldn’t be satisfied. I can already imagine some would say it’s still not enough or the sims didn’t get something correct and it offended them

@@bluesky2925 Right it’s not a Gen Z or Millennial thing. Isn’t he technically part of Gen Z? Regardless, it’s a simmer’s issue. They think they’re entitled to a lot of stuff which many games wouldn’t even allow them to do. The whole paywall thing beyond mods is beyond the minds of a modders for Skyrim or GTA.

I realize this is missing the point of the video and people might come at me for that but it needs to be said. The Sims 4 doesn’t represent every protected minority. The closest thing they have to representation for disabilities is glasses. At least in the US, disabled people are the largest minority group. I’d wager it’s the same or similar in most countries. Being disabled is also one of the few, maybe only, minorities that people can become without having a choice in matter. People may realize they aren’t straight or cis later in life but they always were. People can’t randomly become black or Asian or any other race. They may convert to a minority religion but that’s a choice. Everyone is always one bad day from becoming disabled. Yet there are no disabilities in the sims. Sims 3 generations added canes for elders but some young people need canes too. To my knowledge, canes don’t exist at all in the sims 4. I’ll admit adding some disabilities may have technical challenges, but there’s still a lot of ways to. Add hearing aids, cochlear implants, and diabetes patches and pumps to CAS. Bring back canes for everyone and add crutches too. If they can find a way to add ramps, they could add wheelchairs. They can add traits for neurodiversity and mental illness, though that’d be better as a separate feature rather than taking up trait slots. They could use the tattoos feature to turn limbs into prosthetics at least in appearance, even if the functionality isn’t there. They’ve definitely done a lot with diversity and represented a lot of groups but they’re still missing the biggest one (population wise).

I think this commentary would have been ever better if you had expanded snowflakes beyond just "the wokes". You touched on a bit when noting the outrage and bans because of The SIms commendable inclusivity with queerness, but skipped right over that that outrage is snowflaking too! Conservatives and older folked can definitely be considered snowflakes, as it's not just one generation or political group that can be described as snowflakes.

completely agree. also i'm in the adult range for your viewers. sims 2 had so much raunchy and randomness to it, loved it so much. sims 4 tho.. gotta have mods to make things get random and weird, much less get raunchy. the randomness and weirdness.. i thrive in chaos when it comes to games. also..tend to be sorta a magnet for glitches, but that's another thing entirely XD without mods, there's not enough chaos and weirdness. some part of me wishes they'd go back to how it used to be before EA started trying to "censor" themselves / dumb shit down. and that's what it feels like they've done.. to some extent, it feels like they've watered / dumbed things down to not be offensive

i understand not wanting to give players anxiety with the burglars, but why couldn't they have just made this optional? it could be a setting in the gameplay menu, where you can turn "burglars" on and off. or they could've changed the music to make it less terrifying (tbh i think that most people are terrified by the sims 1 music bc that tune was genuinely terrifying). in my opinion, the sims 4 isn't made for the snowflake generation, it's made for pure capitalism. instead of reinventing the burglars in a new way, they take them out of the game bc its easier. instead of giving players adult content, they completely sanitise it because that makes it consumable for all ages. and instead of actually making the cas diverse in terms of hairstyles (there aren't a lot of good curly hair options) and clothing (men get nothing), they just make a very bland selection and call it a day.

Satch, after watching your content I've realised you would love the game Sims 2 on PSP. I don't know how you are gonna play it, but I would love a series, and I think you would love the story and the gameplay in that game. It is similar to the old style of Sims

I used to get scared when burglars showed up, I was 10 yo. I loved being scared of it! In real life it’s really scary, so what? I want a LIFE simulation… in the sims 4 everything is good life - good grades, good job, good marriage (even when one of the spouses cheats!!!) and the best children. Boringgggg!! I want the spicy things

I don't use game play so much, more into building than anything now. I miss much of the game play that is gone, swinging on the fridge door for fun, pirate in the bathtub, odd things that made you laugh. Remember the skunks? My brother-in-law was being horrible and I made him in the game. As skunk came in his yard and I got him to pet it. LOL he got sprayed and was jumping around screaming and I couldn't stop giggling. In real life I felt less upset by him and when he was around being horrible I just had to remember that bit of gameplay to smile. Still do. LOL Can't do anything like that in the sims now!

Love your channel. The values you represent and how openly you present them are SO important. See. I want to point out that sims is now a game of privilege. I grew up into a VERY poor family, and the sims was my coping mechanism. The sims was how I dealt with traumas, and over time, the game not only made it harder and harder for me to address those in fun ways, but it became more expensive for me to. Over time, I had to pay more and more to escape from harsh realities. They've taken a lot of the personality and individuality out of the game and replaced it with P.C. content. While political correctness has its place, such as in direct interactions with others, it's not appropriate for every environment. I used to be able to get a game and play my heart out. Now, I get a game and hope I'll be able to afford to make it playable. But EA wasn't the only company to have this issue. I remember that when fb gained popularity and started monetizing on games such as farmville, other companies moved to cash-cow mentality. This movement was HEAVILY reflected on platforms like Gaiaonline where new leadership's presentations were actually exposed for their toxic values. The turning point for Gaiaonline was the introduction of an item called Flynn's booty, which caused a very dramatic case of inflation within Gaiaonline's marketplace economy. The same values apply to EA just through different execution like expansion packs. Both the sims and Gaiaonline used to be very healthy outlets for poor people and neurodivergents to have a sense of belonging and personal power over their lives, that were just taken away by a corrupt money-hungry industry.
