The composer of this song (originally known as Kiruttiñapillai கிருட்டினபிள்ளை) was employed by missionaries as a Tamil teacher in the Thirumariyur ( near Nazareth, Thoothukudi district) Bible college. After seeing the life of Principal of that college he started reading Bible and added the name of the principal Henry Albert while taking baptism. Since he was a Tamil scholar wrote songs about Jesus in pure Tamil using its pre defined rules. In classical Tamil only specific ragas must be used while praising God. By that way this Was in the same raga of Thiruvasagam
