Test shot made with a 3 tube professional camera Hitachi FP-15B. AD conversion with AJA mini converter V2digital, composit video. Made via SDI recording with Blackmagic Design Video Assist in Prores HQ, SD video. Davinci resolv 16 for noise reduction and minor corrections. Vapoursynth for deinterlace and upscale to UHD. FFMPEG for encoding.

Looks amazing. I have a FP-15 and I'm looking for power supply info if you have any. Is it the same power as the 15B?

Yes, that is the same power supply. But any 12v dc power supply is good. You probably have those lying around somewhere from one device or another.

@@videotaperetro1126 great thanks! How do you like Davinci vs something like Topaz AI for noise reduction/upscale? I use the latter but it can be difficult to get results that look natural.

Nice. So cool. So clean. I've always been interested in the Hitachi cameras. I've owned the Sony M3A, the Ikegami 730A, and currently use the Ikegami HL-79E. Is it your Vapoursynth upscaling, or does this camera naturally have a ton of artificial sharpening? I usually open up these old cameras and turn it down.

Hi, I can tell you that no sharpening has been applied. Not in the editor (noise reduction only), not in the vapoursynth scripts. I can send you a piece of the Prores HQ captured file (google drive) so you can see what comes out of the camera. Would like to know if I can arrange that with this camera.

oh yes, still forgot. I am making a circuit to extract component video from this camera (restore dc levels) the luminance signal is already ok and that looks even more detailed, was to be expected.

I'd be interested in seeing a side by side comparison type of video, where you show the raw video vs the finished product. I'm curious how much of this is in post and how much is the quality of the camcorder.

Hello, may I ask you which capture card you use and in which video format you capture. I have an AJA Kona LHi and capture in 10Bit 4: 2: 2 uncompressed. Do you have a TBC between the recorders and your capture card? Are you using the component output of the BETACAM recorder? And what about the Umatic recorder? Maybe you can give me a fragment of such a captured file. I will then set up a workflow to make the video worthy of youtube or HD.

@@videotaperetro1126 Hello, I use for digitizing U-matic SP two recorders/players Sony VO-9850p and Sony BVU-850p (I don't have TBC) and capture using Sony VRD MC5 ( I know this is a horrible way but it works) would be good if I could somehow get a signal from the DUB connector. For BETACAM SP I have a Sony BVW-D75PS with SDI inputs/outputs and capture into AJA Kona 3 (and I don't use any upscailers, only deinterlace the footage). On this kzbin.info/door/Vl-TNWhbEL4E-SIYhhxRBg channel you can see several footage from my digitizing U-matic and U matic SP ...

Hello, although the videos still look pretty good, there are some things that are not good. 1. I see your videos are 1080p30. This means that during upscale or deinterlace or elsewhere in the process a PAL to NTSC conversion or certainly a frame rate conversion has been done. 2. You may not deinterlace during capture. and always check that you do not convert while capturing PAL must be 720x576 in 25p (50i). That must be the format of your captured files. 3. Deinterlacing and upscaling should be done as the last step. Deinterlacing has to turn 50i into 50p, which has to be done by a motion adaptive bob deinterlacer. So the quality of the videos can get a lot better !!
