This is the introduction of Mandalore and it's people and culture, which will play a larger and larger role as you go through this series and others later. Mandalore has an extremely long, rich, and complex history that will be explored further in the future. The Darksaber is an important part of Mandalorian culture, created a thousand years ago by the first ever Mandalorian Jedi. There is no other lightsaber like it, and it holds a very important symbolic role to many Mandalorians ...

I laughed so hard when you said "This is romantic" in the first part of the arc, knowing that's exactly what Anakin said in the next part.

They showed the rocks crushing to show how they make their armor, which is very important to mandalorian culture. Finally you get to meet Satine! She's a wonderful character with an amazing impact on Obi-Wan's character and story arc. The chemistry between them is palpable. I like how, despite her pacifist idealism, she's still strong willed and very capable if she has to be. No wonder Obi-Wan was drawn to her in the past. Not to spoil any details, but Star Wars has a lot more stories to tell about Mandalore and its rich history as well as its tumultous present, so you've got a lot to look forward to there. Satine represents an interesting moment for Mandalore in which they aim to be a pacifist civilisation, when historically weapons, armour, and the might of those who use them have been so integral to Mandalorians that these things are part of their religion.

About the Darksaber's out-of-universe origins - Pre Vizla was originally not meant to have a lightsaber. When this episode was made, he was using a vibrosword, with a cortosis weave that let it clash against lightsabers without breaking. But George Lucas decided that he didn't want a regular sword standing up to a lightsaber (despite vibroaxes already having appeared in the OT), and had the team change it; it might even have been in post, which would explain how odd the VFX for the Darksaber look in this episode.

(There’s also The Bad Batch which picks up right where TCW leaves off, but that one’s not really necessary for Mando. Good show though!)

I love this arc! You asked why Palpatine didn't target Padme. He definitely did! Most of "Episode II: Attack of the Clones" is people trying to kill Padme. It started with the bombing in the opening scene (when her decoy was killed) and continued all the way to the start of the war and the arena. There were also many times throughout this Clone Wars series where Palpatine or his cronies (ie Dooku) were trying to target Padme to kill her. More often than not, however, it was Anakin that was able to save her. I imagine an alternate universe where Anakin and Padme could go on a double date with Obi-Wan and Satine. It would have been so fun to see!

Minister Almec’s words decrying Jango as a common bounty hunter who just got mando armor was very controversial. Legends material showed he was very much mandalorian, even taught Boba the culture. But it’s important to note the kind of person Almec is. A politician who’s all in on the pacifist movement rejecting the old warrior way. You’ve actually seen the Death Watch symbol before. But where? That’s the question 🤫 The Darksaber is a one of a kind lightsaber. Someone already spoiled it was made by a mandalorian jedi. That may explain it’s uniqueness. You’ve also seen it before, very briefly. 🤫 “What? He was gonna blow up the ship.” Yeah, Obi-Wan. Shut up. Satine and Obi would’ve been well within their right to kill Merrik. Like Anakin said, _he was gonna blow up the ship._ Satine’s too entrenched in her pacifism and that influenced Obi hesitating. She’d rather not shoot one a-hole who has already killed and is going to kill her, the man she loves, and who knows how many innocent people, just so she can be comfy knowing she adhered to her pacifism. ANAKIN WAS THE SMART ONE! Oh god, Anakin was the smart one, with _Obi-Wan_ there! A most sincere apology from Palpatine. A truly valuable thing 🙄 Padme was targeted in Episode II. Thought that was for revenge rather than political reasons There’s a senator you might wanna keep an eye out for. It may be the woman you mentioned. A red head in white. Mom Mothma. You’ve seen her in Return of the Jedi as one of the leaders of the rebellion. She has very small cameos in this show and has gained a lot more prominence on screen with new materials.

He was gonna blow up the ship." 26:31 Yeah they live in Dome cities as the surface of the planet was destroyed during the wars with the Jedi. 30:23 Take note of Mas Amedda here. He's in cahoots with Palpatine and is one of his closest allies. 31:11 It's good isn't it? Only gets better as the seasons go on. 33:31 Palpatine is always 4 steps ahead. 33:55 The place where they are meeting is Mount Umate, the highest mountain on Coruscant and the only place where you can see the surface of the planet. 36:14 That's Mon Mothma in the senate followed by Senator Chuchi. 37:12 👏👏 Great trilogy of episodes. 41:08 The line you're thinking of is, "So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause." I would argue it's the best line of the whole Prequel Trilogy.

Jango Fett was born in the years prior to the Invasion of Naboo, on the planet Concord Dawn. Though he told others he came from this Mandalorian world, his exact history remained unknown, much to Fett's enjoyment. At some point, he was taught by a mentor and became a Mandalorian foundling, being raised by the warriors and participating in the Mandalorian Civil Wars. Given his own set of Mandalorian armor, Fett served as a Mandalorian commando but eventually pursued a career as a bounty hunter. Although he retained his Mandalorian armor, Prime Minister Almec of the New Mandalorians disavowed any connection to Fett, claiming that he was simply a bounty hunter who had somehow stolen an artifact from Mandalore's troubled past.

In the year 42 BBY, as the New Mandalorians increased in strength and became a major political and ideological force on Mandalore, a civil war broke out between the reformist movement and the traditional Mandalorian warriors for control of the planet, with Satine's ascension to the leadership of the New Mandalorians being a major catalyst. The war decimated the already-damaged surface of Mandalore, and the capital city of Keldabe was devastated. Among the many casualties of the war was Satine's father.

Fun detail the Rock behind Satine in the Monument Plaza where she meets Obi Wan in the third episode opens with a wide shot of the plaza is actually the peak of the mountain Umate which is the highest mountain in the Manarai range on Coruscant and the only uncovered mountain peak on Coruscant. This shows you how high the surface level of Coruscant is with over 5127 levels underneath the city. This would be like us on Earth building over our cities until our planet is covered in one massive city while the highest level rests around the peaks of Mount Everest with Skyscrapers towering over this level. Star Wars was actually going to have a game called 1313 which would’ve been set in the underworld of Coruscant on Level 1313 featuring a young Boba Fett. You can watch the demo online but Luca told the developers at the last minute after the demo was finished that he wanted the game to be about a young Boba Fett which was a shock to the team as they already created a man character got voice actors along with writing the whole plot around this character and of course created the E3 Demo featuring the character we play as. So pretty much everything had to change which meant everything we saw in that Demo pretty much wouldn’t be in the final game. Unfortunately the game was cancelled so we will never know but some behind the scenes pictures released of early gameplay even showing a young Boba Fett in early Mandalorian Armour.

That part where the Prime Minister says that "Jango Fett was a common bounty hunter" alludes to the idea that Jango Fett is not a Mandalorian which, according to Dave Filoni, comes directly from George Lucas. When Jango Fett first appeared in "Episode 2: Attack of the Clones", many fans and crew members of the franchise thought that he was a Mandalorian, but that was never stated at all and he's always been referred to as just a bounty hunter.

Fun detail but Pre Vizsla in the second episode when he appears as the hologram chatting to the county he's actually wearing Clone armour and helmet as the asset creators didn't have his or any Mandalorian armour created for the season so they had to rework/redesign the Clone phase 1 armour and helmet to make it look as close to Mandalorian armour as they could covering most of it up in a Cloak/poncho and of course the hologram hiding a lot of the detail. If you really look at it you can tell right away that it isn't actual Mandalorian armour. This episode was created very early on in Season 2 which explains why they didn't have the models finished yet unlike the last episode you watched which was filled with Mandalorian armour. He also has the the skull of a mythosaur on his cloak instead of the Death watch symbol. The the skull of a mythosaur being the rallying symbol for Mandalore with one even appearing on Boba Fett's armour on his left shoulder a red mythosaur symbol with a white background over yellow shoulder armour.

So to just give you a thumbnail of Mandalorian History up to this point. The Mandalorian culture essentially made them somewhat mercenary. They conflicted with the Jedi several times (we aren't sure how much of legends is good for cannon yet so I'm being vague) once they sided with the Sith Empire. So Mando and Jedi see each other as enemies. Satine's government is very opposite to what the Mandolorian culture has been and the Death Watch wants things to return to what they were before..

Satine received an education and lived a relatively normal childhood despite Mandalore's conflicts. Mandalore was a planet with a long and violent history of warring factions both internal and external, but after countless wars and the environmental decline of their homeworld, many Mandalorians began turning from their warrior traditions. By Kryze's time, there was a rising group birthed in the city of Sundari known as the New Mandalorians, which sought to reform Mandalorian society along peaceful lines by channeling the culture's best aspects away from self-destructive warring. Kryze, believing that Mandalore needed to change in order to have a future, was a major proponent of the New Mandalorians. While still young, Satine began working with the political faction to help create a constructive future for her people. Kryze's ideology was in stark opposition to more conservative-minded individuals on Mandalore who wanted to preserve the old ways and continue the Mandalorian custom of waging war for the glory of their world. The New Mandalorians realized that this expertise in warfare was of no lasting benefit to the majority of Mandalorians and would only lead Mandalore further towards its destruction. With support from most Mandalorian citizens, the group gradually began to grow in strength in order to challenge the minority of traditional warriors. These traditionalists used violence to hold on to power as Kryze, recognized by her title of nobility as the Duchess of Kalevala, rose to prominence and became the de facto leader of the New Mandalorians
