Ooh, so satisfying, Claudia! The cleanup looks great! How many inches of compost do you think you add to your beds each year?
@InTheGardenWithClaudia
@InTheGardenWithClaudia 2 ай бұрын
Thank friend. So we do at least two inches, more in lower areas. We order bulk so it’s more cost effective. It really helped build up our compacted/clay soil. 🥰

I loved this video! Your lawn is beautiful do have any lawn secrets

Thank you so much, the lawn is definitely Sergey’s wheelhouse. We actually filmed a lawn care video last spring you can watch. 🤩 In short we cut the grass super short, we then dethatch, then rake up all that thatch, don’t leave anything behind. The. We aerate, spread seed (super important to have a good quality seed) and then we add nice even layer of turf mix to help the seed stay protected, do a light broadcast of a seed starting fertilizer, and keep with moist for two weeks. Also avoid walking it, that’s a huge part of it too. 🥰

Hello Claudia….I thk I may have found the name of the Rudbeckia …but it’s neither sunset or Cherokee bc those flowers didn’t match what you had ,however I did see Sahara Rudbeckia that was a good match … look it up online see what you thk … I live herein Boring , Ore . Started watching your utube off of Jamie’s site …. I love that you are here in the Gr8 northwest . I’ve been watching you ever since and love your site , so yes I’m a newbie.😛

Aww thanks Cathy!! I feel like we are plant investigators.🧐 I’ve grown Sahara before but mine had more variation. I’m going to contact the garden center I purchased them and see if it’s still in their inventory. 🤩

I just bought a “weed wacker/ edger” and didn’t know to hold it with the shield up to make the edge. I am going to try that next time.
@InTheGardenWithClaudia
@InTheGardenWithClaudia 2 ай бұрын
Thanks Michelle! Yes that is the right way to hold it, it helps block anything from flying up. Sergey says holding it that way also allow you to angle it better to have a nice beautiful edge. 🥰

Hi Claudia, lovely garden. I wouldn’t waste your time on a peony cage for the delphinium instead you want a ‘grow through plant support’ as it keeps the stems separated so good wind / air flow if you clean off some of the lower leaves from the plant (helps to minimise powdery mildew effects) and also keeps stems straight upwards whereas a peony cage is fluted outwards so stems tend to lean and grow outwards onto the frame. My delphinium just went through a week of heavy rain storms and a freak hail storm that left the garden looking like it had a snow covering. It took most of my flower blooms on my other plants but my delphiniums are still stood upright in full bloom. Previous years I have come outside to many broken stems just from one mildly heavy rain. The grow through support has honestly been a game changer and you don’t even need to train the fresh stem growth through the support as it does it itself. 😊

Wow Heather this is so incredibly insightful, thank you so much! I’m not a huge fun of peony cages, I wonder if I should just order these too for the peonies in our garden. 🤔 I’m going to order some for spring. Do you leave yours out all year round?
@Heather0804
@Heather0804 2 ай бұрын
@@InTheGardenWithClaudia Yeah I don’t rate peony cages at all. The plants look messy very quickly and all the cage does is prevent total flopping to the ground and therefore breakage at the base but it doesn’t actually support the top growth to prevent damage or flopping in the first place or actually help to create a stronger more wind and rain resilient plant. This is my first gardening season with the support but I just brought a ‘run of the mill’ inexpensive garden centre one with the green plastic type coating (same as ones you’d probably get from Amazon) so I’ll bring it in over winter in the hope of getting a couple of extra years out of it vs leaving it in the ground. They come in a range of shapes and sizes and flat pack for easy storage. You could try your dahlias in your front flower beds if any are in a particularly fragile position in the garden 😊

Yes i’m definitely trying them, you are the best for sharing these! I gave up on the peony cages and started using old tomato cages I cut done to a single ring. The grow through supports sound perfect! 🤗

Many years ago, I purchased two Dahlias. They were a dark burgundy color, so pretty. They didnt come back the next year and my mom told me you have to dig them up so cold wont kill them. Do you have to dig your dahlias up, or do you have a way to protect them in winter? I want some so bad but I dont have anywhere to over winter them. Thanks 😊 oh and Im in zone 7b....I absolutely love your garden beds!!!

Aww thank you for sharing that. If you click into my “Videos” tab and scroll down the have like 3 videos on digging and storing dahlias and how to over winter them in-ground. I would watch those because I go into details but am also happy to answer any questions you have. 🤗
