In this video, I use my Tormach Micro Arc 4th axis to machine a set of handles for the wife's crockpot. Hence, making it the most expensive crockpot in the world.

This video made my afternoon, Tim! 🤣 (I made the hubby watch it with me, but for the record - the crockpot is his and the machine tools are mine in this house. ) 😜 Loved every second of this content - from the humor to the lessons learned. Those are some stellar handles! Keep up the phenomenal work and fantastic videos!!!

You can build a temp controller for the crock pot very easily and turn it into a Sous Vide cooker when you are not using it as a crock pot. Sous Vide steak is the best!

Awesome! Looks like you may be using David Loomes' s mounting plate for the self centering vise. I made one for my microarc, but have not yet used the approach you show for flipping the part for op2. I'm inspired!

Just found your channel. Good work I subbed. I have rebuilt a Syil X4 with a spindle and Masso. Got it running good now. Just venturing into 4th axis work. Nice parts and good accuracy. I'm not sure the Syil would be quite that good but similar. The reality is I cant manual machine better and everything I make seems to fit together nice. I was chasing better accuracy for a bit but it is what it is and if I want better I'll need to buy a far more expensive machine. That is not happening so I accept it for what it is. A thats pretty good.

Thank for subscribing! We all the the "chasing better accuracy" game. Good luck. What make the micro arc work so well is the harmonic drive. Also, you can pick up used 440's for about $6K. Best of luck.

I wish I could understand imperial but I am a metric guy. 😂 Nice part you make there. I would have printed it with high temp filament 😅

Thank you very much. It's comments like this that keep me going. With the link below you can order both the 8-55mm and 50-75mm vises. In my video I used the 8-55mm www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08XQMFFM2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Email me at lastbastionlabs@gmail.com and I will send you my model for the adaptor plate. You have to make that one.

I have a few of those and I think for the money they are a good little vice. I'm not sure about this learning curve you speak of, for me it was a vertical line extending near to the top of the graph. Only recently has it diverged to a 45 degree incline. By far the most challenging thing I have ever taken on. Only shear pig headed determination has allowed me to push on. That said I had to rebuild my mill first and that was not expected from the outset.

as a CNC noob, one thing I'm still struggling to wrap my head around is accurately holding and locating parts for second/third ops. When you clamped it in the vice for the final op, how did you make sure it was perfectly level and in the exact right position?
@LastBastionLabs
@LastBastionLabs 2 жыл бұрын
The flat end of the part was on the parallel. I gave it a few taps with a hammer. I also referenced my Z height from the bottom of the part by touching off on the parallel.

I've got the vice and the adapter plate all set up. Can I assume you have to manually probe the block on the 4th to find the center x?
@LastBastionLabs
@LastBastionLabs 2 жыл бұрын
I tried to center on the vice with lack luster results. I found that mounting the er40 with a 1/2" gauge pin and running the path pilot find center (Z and Y) worked the best. After I had the center I mounted the vise, set the stock and probed the end of the stock to set the X. Hope that helped.

Nice. But I see no benefit to using the MicroArc in this application, and it results in more material waste.
