Great video. I loaded the satochip and seedkeeper applets onto a few javacards i had to play around with last year and was impressed. Still has some way to go to polish the experience a bit, but I thought it was pretty neat.

Yea the apps certainly need some polish, but things are improving, particularly with Sparrow support arriving recently.

Thanks for doing such insightful videos. In this video you briefly showed the ability to generate a seed on the seedsigner for storing in the seedkeeper card. I wish you would show an entire workflow of how to store a backup of a generated seed from the seedsigner to the seedkeeper card and how to import the seed from the seedkeeper to the seedsigner. I love the seedsigner, but was looking for an alternative secure and mobile way to backup seeds (other than QR codes). The card seems interesting as it looks like a regular credit card. Happy holidays. Walter

Thanks. Basically the SeedSigner integration is still a work in progress and will likely get tweaks/improvements after others start testing it. (So things like menu layouts, workflows and features may change quite a bit) The plan is to continue to work on it over the next month and then once it's ready for general use by normal folk (As opposed to developers and those who are happy to play around on the bleeding edge) I will do a video that runs through both the hardware and software sides of it in much greater detail than is currently available. (It will also be clearer by that point what interest there is in merging this support into the official SeedSigner releases) Overall I think the SeedKeeper is a great option for secure seed storage with Seedsigner, particularly as it makes it really easy to have both a seed+passphrase securely saved to the card that can be quickly and easily loaded into the SeedSigner. (Which would then complement something like a physical backup of the seed only that might live somewhere that is harder to access)

Hi. My question is: is seed generation based on the entropy of a photo taken by seedsginer reliable? If so, can you explain why this is so?
@CryptoGuide9 ай бұрын
Basically it *should* be fine in terms of the source code, etc, but the main issue is that it's not verifiable. (And isn't really certifiable when compared to things like a hardware TRNG) This isn't too say that nobody should use it, especially if you intend to use it with a BIP39 passphrase. (Which mitigates most issues with bad wallet seed entropy)

Hey mate, Thanks for review ! I was a ledger boy before drama, and today I want to change for a full safe cold. I hesitate between Trezor or Satochip. Trezor most advantage for me is large asset support and easy way too manage it (used to ledger live), but Satochip looks like more simple and safest but UI is more tricky. What is your advice between both (Security side most important for me btw)? (Or other device recommandation but I want to stay under 100$)
@CryptoGuide9 ай бұрын
The Trezor Safe 3 is probably the best value option at the moment as it comes with a screen, so is easier to use securely and works nicely with a wide range of wallets.

@@CryptoGuide thanks for reply! And if we talk only on security side. Objectively, who is best ? (I heard satochip somewhere , trezor on other forum etc)

Both provide very similar physical security in terms of using a secure element. (And the Trezor is easier to do things like seed backups and transaction verification securely)

Thanks for the tutorial. Unfortunately i can never use this thing because i simply cannot bring myself to enter a seed into a computer. Even if that computer is running a supposedly private/secure OS... I would only do this if i could somehow enter my seed directly from a device that i know for a fact can't jack my seed. Like a raspberry pi 0 running audited FOSS like seedsignerOS. This is because i can see with my own 2 eyes that (1) there is no wifi chip on the PCB to transmit the secret, and (2) the OS does not have malicious code. I wouldnt be able to fully inspect an OS with as much code as Tails

Oh I totally agree, this why I demonstrated both how to do this using SeedSigner and also how to initialise it using the SeedKeeper. (A more complete overview of Seedsigner integration will come in the coming weeks once it is more ready broader usage)

Hi, if you are looking for ideas for a new video, I would love to see how to get this working in a VM running Tails.
@CryptoGuide10 ай бұрын
It pretty much "just works" in Tails, where are you getting stuck? (Or what are you attempting to do?)
@cyber_hornet_2110 ай бұрын
@@CryptoGuide I have my ledger working, I almost have trezor working but SatoChip just refuses to be seen - maybe as it's a VM it's more tricky, but as I say ledger works really easily
@CryptoGuide10 ай бұрын
Tails comes with all the smartcard drivers needed, so will "just work" with things like their fork of Electrum or the official Sparrow standalone releases. The main issue is that some smart card readers need to be connected to VMs in "Shared mode", so depending on what software you are using, there might be an option to pass the USB smartcard reader through either directly or shared. (The language for this will vary depending on what you are using for your VMs)
@cyber_hornet_219 ай бұрын
@@CryptoGuide I now have it working - in my virtualisation platform (KVM on Linux) you need to not only add the USB device but also a virtual smartcard device. Once BOTH of those are part of the "hardware" the VM sees the card and the AppImage works perfectly
@CryptoGuide9 ай бұрын
Ah yea running things in a VM will certainly add a bit of complexity, but good job getting it sorted

I have a dcent card that I bought that has been in the draw for two years... The Ballet wallets are a security nightmare in that they come pre-printed with a private key... (Which the vendor could just retain)
@huhu675914 күн бұрын
In fact ballet is a very very risky wallet. I have ballet but just use it for small amount say 10usd business. I dare not put more than 10 usd. Please let's know about dcent card review. About the Dcent card the way they label the coins and the Blockchains is just like a preschooler writing. Add eth, binance, polygon etc and see how they label their Blockchain. Very ugly and terrible,,some are labeled in capital letters, some are in small letters all jumbled with their support agent very stubborn and impolite. Secondly, dcent are stealing coins backdoor because they set gas fee so high. When normal cold wallets like safepal, tangem etc takes gas fee of 0.04 usd, dcent card will charge 8 usd for erc20 token transfer. I advised them more than. 20 times to let their app automatically calculate the gas fee,not dcent calculating with so high configuration.. thirdly, I advised dcent to make multiple wallet on the dcent card so that we can add more than one wallets at the same time and with a click, we can switch card but support was very stubborn than a monkey. South Korean people are very very disrespectful. People aren't patronizing their wallets any more due to stubborn support,high gas fees, etc. please also check on hashwallet card from Spain gethashwallet.com

I probably won't review the dcent wallet as I really don't think it's worth my time.
