This was my first time playing and it blew me away when night arrived. The way the trees start to glow blue just before daylight fades out, and the grey foggy marshlands totally transform as the aura and colours of the night fade in alongside this gorgeous music.... man. I stopped playing for a minute just to look around and soak in the atmosphere.

Iste natura... Iste terra... Iste mare... Essa... (This nature... this land... this sea... eaten/consumed...)
@aliel-hage8028
@aliel-hage8028 4 жыл бұрын
99% sure it's essa, not esso. The latin verb "to eat" is edo, edis, edere. The perfect passive participle form of this (equivalent to "eaten") is essus, essa, essum for masculine, feminine and neutral genders respectively. Natura and terra are both feminine while mare is neutral. Since this is an enumeration and that perfect passive participles must share the same declension and gender as the nouns they modify, the verb must be nominative plural (plural because of the enumeration). The neutral nominative plural PPP form of edo is essa. Neutral is used here because adjectives often take the gender of the nearest noun, in this case mare.

This one does sound nice...the oboe itself is really great, but the original just fits better for the mood of the area. Edit: After some more comparison, i think what irks me a bit is that the oboe is too prominent and sticks out too much. A bit more subdued and it would be better. Also the choice for the singers voices doesnt fit really. The original singers voices, who sounded much more mature fit in my opinion mch better.

It's a shame how few this game got advertised back then. I got into the franchise via Xenoblade 2 after my brother insisted, and was so excited when I heard that a Switch remake was in the making, because it meant I could play this one, too. I went to the closest electronics shop the very day it was released, even had a few days off from work and was barely able to put down the controller. I've always had a soft spot for mind-bending plots, socially awkward teen geniuses ("What? I just said it can't cut Homs, why should I be worried about you?") and also romantic pairings that forgo the whole soap opera dancing around the topic. (Shulk and Fiora are adorable, but Reyn and Sharla just blew my mind. That's a dynamic I've never seen before!) The music was just the cherry on top. Now I'll just have to beat down my brother and return the favor! XD

Ironically I’d heard this many times before out of context. There’s a Nintendo song compilation that I’d use to study in college. Shoutouts to Luigi because I probably wouldn’t have graduated. Now a 2019 graduate, I’m playing Xenoblade for the first time ever & I just found the marsh about 2 days ago. Like those who have been there before me, I was completely stunned. The visuals, the trees, the terrifyingly strong monsters that appeared out of nowhere. And then the nostalgia that kicked in from me actually realizing that this is THAT song. It all hit me at once, and I just had to put the controller down for a second.

This song is absolutely beautiful. It hits me even harder than Dire Dire Docks. I’ve been wondering what about this song makes me so emotional, and I think I have some idea. The leitmotif of this song (for music nerds, the Bb-F-Eb-F-x, where x is Ab initially) appears all throughout the song, but with many different variations. It starts with small variations, then repeats them. As the first verse is repeated, there is a small change in instrumentation towards the end as the strings enter in, as if something is about to change. As you enter the bridge, you can feel the tone of the leitmotif completely change (as the Bb minor becomes a Db major, and the oboe even arpeggiates Db maj7, a hint of what’s to come), creating a sense of suspense and wonder. The song continues to build up more suspense, repeats the new variation one more time (with a twist at the end: an accidental F major chord, with the melody running down from C to A) before entering the chorus. We expect the song at this point to return to Bb minor (as this would be a standard V-i resolution in Bb minor), but the song instead moves to Gb major as the melody reaches its peak register and volume. The major 7th chords come out in full force. After some beautiful ascending lines in the melody, we’re back to Bb minor. Alright, we’re gonna finally hear the original leitmotif in Bb minor again! Except no, because the leitmotif goes into an all-out Db maj9. I always get chills at this part, as it sounds so magnificent and is the fullest harmony in the entire piece (that Db in the strings is *scrumptious* right after the leitmotif at 1:39-1:42). Then, the harmony slowly settles back down into Bb minor, and we enter the “he’s still a tuna” part, which is mostly an echo of the first verse with vocals rather than the oboe. Why does this work so well? I think the instrumentation is part of it. The piano ostinato against the oboe and vocals at the beginning is simply beautiful. They join together later on during the bridge, with the oboe giving some additional counter-melody, which provides more harmony and melodic complexity as the song builds. Additionally, the dynamics in this song are simply incredible. From the light and delicate beginning, slowly escalating to the brilliant and marvelous chorus, then slowing back to the light and delicate beginning… It tells a story of growing up, going on a life-changing journey, and then finally coming home to rest after a life well lived. Another reason this song always tugs my heartstrings is the chord progression. The song subverts your expectations in the best possible way. The leitmotif makes perfect use of this as well, as the Bb-F-Eb-F-x line makes you wonder what the x will be as more variations are introduced. There’s enough similarity to keep it familiar and comfortable, but enough variation to keep you curious and awestruck. The song evokes a sense of being awed by the world around you, as if it’s telling you to appreciate this moment in time in all its beauty. “Whatever you’re going through right now, take a moment to really look around you and see just how beautiful it is to be alive. There’s wonder all around you, if you aren’t afraid to go out of your comfort zone to find it. And when you do find it, you can always come back here to rest.” That’s what this song makes me feel. And it makes me cry. Not because it’s sad, but because it’s just so beautiful. Even years later, after hearing this song countless times, it still makes me cry. Taking this song in the context of the part of Xenoblade where it first happens makes it hit even harder, as it marks a checkpoint in the party’s life-changing journey, and the sense of wonder in the song parallels the sense of wonder as you look upon the flying lights in the marsh at night. It’s the perfect visual and thematic backdrop for such an incredible song.

First time I played Xenoblade Chronicles; I was in love with the gameplay and music. First time in Satorl Marsh, I've yet to finish the game because I've never left this area. It's just so beautiful; I don't want to leave behind the serenity that is this piece! Yes, there is a slight undertone of sadness considering the in-game lore behind the Satorl Marsh, but that makes it all the more beautiful and ethereal. Even if you took this song without that context, this piece continues to be chillingly beautiful.

There’s something about listening to this track as you walk through Satorl Marsh at night. *possible spoilers below* Especially after viewing the heart to heart between Shulk and Dunban, there’s something about this track that makes it seem like Satorl Marsh’s beauty isn’t eternal. That someday the trees with lose their glow and that the landscape will go to ruin...

bastardass I don’t understand what about it is lame though. If something means something to you or is speaking to you with whatever format: music, scenery, characters, story. Enough to make you emotional it’s just something that’s really important enough to make you cry. You realize the beauty of what you’re looking at or hearing and it triggers something in you. Are you saying it’s lame to feel those things because if so you might be lying to yourself otherwise you wouldn’t have cried. Lame to you or lame because everyone else will think it’s lame? Enjoy what you want to enjoy as much as you enjoy it. And any emotion you feel embrace to it’s fullest because it’s what you naturally feel
