Perhaps *THE* quintessential old school voice actor. He just about did everything under the sun in his time: Disney (movies, cartoons and parks), Hanna Barbera, Rankin/Bass, commercials, even the live action War of the Worlds movie and K.A.R.R from Knight Rider.

My favorite Paul Frees roles was The Ghost Host for Disneyland's regular Haunted Mansion and the original Pirate Ship Captain (1967-2006) for Pirates of the Caribbean. Paul Frees was also great as the Burgermeister Meisterburger.

Paul Frees was one of the first voice actors to work at multiple studios. This is commonplace now, but back in the day, voice actors were usually solely attached to one studio (for example, Mel Blanc with Warner Bros., Jack Mercer with Paramount/Fleischer and Clarence Nash with Disney).

Just heard the man....One of our VERY best...doing the narration of a radio production of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with Michael Rennie (Lux Theater production (NBC Radio Network), 1954)(on KPFK this morning, in Los Angeles). What a DAMNED fine talent!!! Like Ken Nordine, amazingly polished and authoritative. I've enjoyed his work for MANY years, but apparently had forgotten the MANY varieties and dialects (and characters) he'd done, such as ones in the Jay Ward--and Disney--cartoons....and a bunch of OTHER Disney features...such as the film "Donald in Mathemagic Land," and the one about a flight to the moon.

What a great compilation. Paul Frees was truly a legend and I'm so grateful we have these timeless recordings of his talent he left behind for posterity. So sad that he ended up committing suicide, this was a great loss. But, in a way, he lives on (as do so many others) at the Disney parks and in these movies and TV shows that people still love.

Wow... I just stumbled on this. I joke that I am one of the biggest Frees fans you will ever meet... and I learned a few things here. As this was only posted 4 days ago, with over 150 comments already, well, that says something about the work that was put into this, and that Paul's work is so beloved. If any of you reading this haven't read Ben Ohmart's Paul Frees biography "Welcome Foolish Mortals" both the 2004, and the revised 2014 edition, well then you should. :) Both are a great read, and hard to put down. I am a long time member of the Paul Frees Facebook group (as administered by my pal Jessica) and I can't upload this to the group fast enough. Both Paul's son and daughter are friends, and I gotta shoot this fantastic work to them as well. I call being into his work as much as this "Deep Frees". Awesome work here, Saturday Morning Rewind.

@@thespaceram2879 read Ben Ohmart’s Frees biography “Welcome Foolish Mortals” or just about anything about him from the web. His parents were Russian Jew immigrants…. buried in Los Angeles. I’ve seen their headstones

I always thought I recognized this voice. Nice to know who it actually is. He will forever be my personal choice for Ludwig von Drake's voice.

I'll always remember him for his voice-dub work for the movie _King Kong Escapes._ He voiced Dr. Who.

Yup ever since I first watched this Paul has become one of my favorite voice actors. Along with Mel Blanc I consider them my idols in voice acting.

I completely forgot that Paul Frees voiced Sev in "Rudolph's Shiny New Year" and I had no idea that he voiced Fred in "A Man Called Flintstone"!

Paul's son Fred told a story somewhere that he had to do traffic school once, on a Saturday, and they showed that to the class. Fred said, hey, that's my dad. Not sure if the others believed him.
