This hits a little to close to home. My mother told me she was going for a minor procedure to check her heart, an angiogram. Turns out it was a quadruple heart bypass. My father had a skin cancer scare which I didn't know about until months later when he casually mentions it over the phone. There reasoning they have for not telling me is that they don't want to bother me with details.

I feel you. finally got my parents to quit pulling that crap when I was 30 and I got an email from my aunt telling me she was praying for my brother and was just sure he would pull through. I called my mom to ask what the hell Aunt Sue was talking about , and discovered that my brother had a strep infection in his blood... they hadn't been going to tell me because I was flying home for Thanksgiving in just a few days and they didn't want to alarm me. (They had never gotten over this one time when I drove home in the middle of the night from college because my brother was in the hospital after an operation and I was worried about him.) when I got home for the holidays, I sat down my parents and read them the riot act, pointing out that people do *die* of what my brother had -- in fact, while he was in the hospital, the big cliffhanger of NYPD Blue was how they were going to kill off Jimmy Smits' character, and what do you know? They killed off Det. Simone with _the exact same thing my brother was suffering from_ . pointed out to my parents how awful they would have felt if my brother had died without my even knowing he was sick, and also that I was now 30 years old and able to reasonably assess whether or not to fly across the country, in addition to being old enough to damn well decide that for myself. Thank heaven, he pulled through and they quit pulling that stuff. Hope the same is true for your family.
@sfveggie5 жыл бұрын
Geez, and I thought this was just my parents who told me bad news after the fact; albeit when my Grandpa died they told me about a month later...during finals (in college). They didn't want me to feel like I had to fly home for the funeral (I was living in London at the time) so instead I was a complete wreck and nearly failed all my tests.

I was visiting a friend out of state once. I got a text from my dad saying my sister was in the hospital. Nothing else. I spent fifteen minutes freaking out and calling them until he answered the phone and told me that it "was just for a UTI and to stop calling him, he was busy.'"

I was at college abroad and in the middle of my midterms got a call from my parents, where they casually told me my brother was in the ICU and my mom admitted, both for dengue. Fun times.

This is so true. When I was in college and went home for Thanksgiving break, my mom casually says after I asked her what she'd been up to, "nothing much, had thyroid surgery 2 weeks ago and things have been going good". I was shook like why wouldn't you tell me BEFORE the surgery. She was all, I didn't want to make a fuss about it, you need to focus on your grades. 😩😧

Pretty sure it’s impossible for Halsey not to steal the show at whatever she does. She kills it in this bit and even as a Midwestern suburban housewife she’s still a dime.

I can relate! I live out of town and o e day my mother was ok and a month later she was admitted to a nursing home! She was only 60, then she came home and now is confined to a wheelchair! The crazy thing is I still don't know how she got this way!

I had this with my parents once 😂😂😂 found out my dad had been to the hospital, my mom was super sick with shingles, and a bunch of other things, all during a casual call about something completely unrelated 😂 Just like, “Ow… ow.” “You ok mom?” “Yeah it’s just the shingles.” “The WHAT” 😂😂😂😂😂
