I had a teacher in high school like Lyle. Everyone thought he was gay. After I graduated, I found out the teacher had many affairs with female teachers and some mothers of the students.

I worked with a guy exactly the same effeminate mannerisms as Lyle. Turns out he was happily married with 3 kids. Still is and it's been 26 years. Some people have the effeminate gene but not the actual gay gene

When I was in school I had a teacher like this, he had the mustache, effeminate mannerisms, we'd see him bicycling around the neighborhood wearing short shorts and leg warmers, but he was married with children. Some men are like this, and I had neighbor like this, one very effeminate man, who was french Canadian was married to a Minnesota woman who you would think was a lesbian. She always wore flannel, kept her hair short and did all the heavy outdoor chores like chopping wood and building a doghouse that you'd usually see the husband doing. They had two kids. Great neighbors, anytime I'd have to leave town the wife would check on my pets everyday and even cut the grass so it looked like someone was home.

Except for that one part where he threatens to hurt the gay teacher for asking him out, the sketch is still very PC and wholesome and would be just as funny on present day SNL. It’s about not making assumptions based on stereotypes, and accepting people the way they are

When my wife and I decided to have a church wedding we had to take a class once a week for six weeks. There were different topics covered and usually it was the priest giving the class. The last class, however, involved the guidelines regarding decorations and it was given by a different couple. I shit you not, it was the Latino version of Lyle and his wife. He was the one explaining the rules and recommending decorations, she mostly helped out. They talked about how they decorated when they got married and about their grown children, etc. I know it sounds awful, but as he walked around the room and talked he seemed so very gay. I'll never forget the look on everyone's face. I wonder what happened to that guy?

My fiancée is ten years younger than me and she was quite shocked when I turned it on last night but I said that it isn't a malicious sketch. Times do change however and just because some of us may not be offended by this, others may well be and that has to be respected.

Why not? making fun of camp gay men, trans or anyone different has always been popular with those who assume everyone is really a heterosexual who made a; "lifestyle choice", that heterosexual humans who fit a stereotype are superior to all other humans who are in some way different.

There used to be a time when people had to hide their true sexuality in fear of being rejected by family or society. So they did what society expected them to do, get married to the opposite sex and have children.
