This is either In Living Color from season one, where there were outrageous sketches, but they were very low-key (at least the ones that didn't feature Jim Carrey and his deranged brand of physical comedy) or it's season five In Living Color where the sketches were still funny, but they bordered on being like early-to-mid 1990s SNL at its worst (or early-to-mid 2000s MADtv, when the cast members were people like Ike Barinholtz, Seth Meyers' brother, Josh; Paul Vogt, Jordan Peele back when he did comedy; Keegan Michael Key; Nicole Parker, Daniele Gaither [who was on The WB's failed attempt at a sketch show called Hype], and Stephnie Weir).

On one hand it's Lorne's show and he can do whatever he wants that man is beloved by damn near everyone he's worked with emphasis on near at the other hand though SNL is the opportunity of a lifetime for anyone in comedy and something people may literally do anything to be in so to them the professionals of the craft if they see someone like back in the day with Fallon and Sanz breaking in damn near every sketch they were in together it may come across as insulting and offensive to those struggling so it can be seen as unprofessional then again breaking is par for the course almost every sketch show has it from Studio C to Smosh heck even Viva la Dirt League when they do live sketches
