Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, Mark Hamill, Robert Downey Jr, Johnny Depp, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman, etc. have played British characters quite successfully. Mike Myers pretty much nails the Scottish accent (sure, he's Canadian and his parents were Brits... but still) But anyway, there are many Brits who can't do a convincing American accent... Daniel Craig, Gerard Butler, David Tennant, etc. come to mind.

Humans are different physically/genetically depending on where they are from and the hundreds of thousands of years their bloodline has evolved separately than other bloodlines. bhjkbhjnbvh Do yourself a favor and watch the UK version. There are 2 seasons and a special. It's so good. It wraps up really nice at the end as well. You have to watch it a few times to really pick up on all the great humor. I happened to run across a preview of the Office on The Kids in the Hall DVD back in 99 or 2000. Decided to watch it and really enjoyed it. Ricky is so funny in it.

This would have been absolutely epic if they had got Ricky Gervais, Mackenzie Crook and Lucy Davis to play the proper parts. If they can get a massive star like Martin Freeman, the others would have been easy.
