In an interview, I think they said that the line was actually written, but the decision to cut to that side of the table for a reaction was made right before the sketch aired, and Bowen was not aware of that. So he wasn't expecting to be on camera. Everything about that moment is so absurd and Bowen's reaction just takes it over the top!

Omg!!! Good for her! I live I Texas and LOVE NYC... took my middle daughter this one time and her favorite singer, Christina Aguilara was musical guest.. we got off the flight, ran to hotel, then straight to SNL.. stood in line but NADA.. it is too hard to get tickets.. waiting list is a year I believe. I was just hoping for a miracle. Went back to the hotel where we were upgraded to a suite overlooking Broadway due to a mistake staff made and watched SNL on TV. I was thrilled to have been in the same building that the show was taped in. Brandy is no longer with us however, I have that special memory.

Because it's a live show, Lorne Michaels expects them to stick to the script and you can get fired for going off book. But I also think maybe he's softened up recently, because there's been a few skits like this where it really seems like someone threw their castmates for a loop. It may also be a situation where she approved it ahead of time and they just didn't tell the cast. I can see the show allowing that. Either way she's pretty amazing, and this sketch was hilarious.

AA The Carol Burnett Show was like this in a lot of the sketches where they were never ‘retaken’. The TV audience saw the sketches as they were ‘filmed before a live audience’. The ones where Harvey Korman was almost NEVER straight-faced when he was in skits with Tim Conway. Tim could never NOT crack Harvey up. Hilarious! Carol, herself, had a hard time keeping a straight face, too! Loved it!!! Check out Tim as a dentist with a syringe of novocaine; and Harvey as his patient. A classic.

I literally have to watch this clip at least once a day. I've never been this obsessed with an SNL skit in all the years it's been on (although David Pumpkins is also a favorite). To see everyone lose it is when I move from a "ha ha!" to a guffawing outburst. Ego is a scene stealer. I'm always riveted by whatever she is doing. This one is her pinnacle though.
