Brian I hate to mention this but they have come out with a service recall on those cars because of the rubber around the fuel lines leading into and out of the pump were rotting. You made the money and not the dealer mechanic. Just thought I would mention it.

I just realized I have this exact problem on my Ion. I've only had the car about 2 years. Is it true there is a recall for this problem?

Thanks Andrea. I've found being mad or frustrated at a machine makes me dumb. Being happy and optimistic lends to being creative at finding solutions. That's how I want to be. Helps the job go better and faster. I learned from my father that I'm in control of how I feel. He told me to "make him mad" so I stomped on his foot. He didn't get mad. Then he said it again. "Make me mad." I realized in that moment that his feelings were not in my control. They were in his and his alone.

These cars as well as the cobalts have a bad problem with the return fuel line getting cracked and leaking fuel, gm has a special coverage(12191) for the 06 models for that reason I'm unsure of the mileage limitations but if it was within the mileage then the person could have taken the car to a Chevorlet dealership and had it repaired for no cost. I've replaced about 8 of them within the last 5 months under that special coverage. Just something for future reference.
@juanquintana73139 жыл бұрын
Brandon thank you for that!!! I was fixing to buy a new fuel pump for my ion due to a heavy gas odor when I found this video and stumbled upon your comment. I called the local dealer and they're replacing it tomorrow under the 12191 special coverage, thank you very much you just saved me a few hundred dollars and a afternoon of wrenching on my plastic car
@evianrave76837 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brandon, my car is covered for this and it has been smelling like gas for months, only now it is starting really hard. (~4 or 5 seconds of turning over before it fires up)

Call up your dealer and see if your VIN is covered for special coverage. They replaced my fuel tank and fuel pump for free (~$1350). I have better mileage now too. ~32mpg highway instead of 28.
@Caveman305.6 жыл бұрын
just popping in to add to this, the coverage still exists with no mileage limitation, I have an 08 cobalt LT with 176,xxx miles and my vin falls into the #12191B coverage

@aarondavis43415 жыл бұрын
God I hate trying to drop tanks when their full. I have an 06 ion quadcoupe,smells like gas BAD but no leaks I've found,from what I've researched all 06 IONS have leak issues on top the pump and where the line meets the pump,there was a recall on them I guess. Other than that I love my ion

Dam, my Saturn L-series has a leak like that but very small. I wonder if its the same part?
@cndr1239 жыл бұрын
Understanding money was tight on this one, but what about the fuel filter? Do your part suppliers give you any trouble with warranty from a faulty fuel pump if you do not replace the fuel filter at the same time?
@briansmobile19 жыл бұрын
cndr123 There are pre programmed decisions that save people (creatures of habit) lots of effort and the potential for mistakes. When a fuel pump fails due to age, debris, mechanical failure etc. the filter should ALWAYS be changed. Here we did it because the materials and manufacturing were questionable. The filter had been changed recently already.
@cndr1239 жыл бұрын

I have a buick lacrosse 2010 cxs 3.6 with direct injection and did a full tune up. and before that I was getting 13.5 mpg and id have to fuel up every 3 days and works only 5 miles away/ if I go to Los angeles from Bakersfield the tank gets empty pretty quickly by the time I get there hardly any traffic over the week. after my tune up nothin changed, so I'm wondering if I have a leak in my tank like this Saturn?

Those "idiot hoods" are for the protection of pedestrians. The theory goes that when a pedestrian slams into your hood after you have struck him with your car the plastic "idiot hood" has some give to it as opposed to the hood striking the metal of the engine. Engines have been lowered in the car to facilitate this reduction in the force applied to the pedestrian victim.
@briansmobile19 жыл бұрын
drm315 I have never heard that before. What's the source. I'd like to know more.

So typical of the automotive industry, you have a leaking line but instead of being able to replace it, you have to replace the entire pump (which works) instead of just a little line.

Hey brain I have a 2003 ion and found out two days ago I myself have a gas leak in which I suspected. I'm a VERY car savy lady. But I need to know what a particular part is. Ok... let's start at the fill neck.... follow it all the way to the rear of the tank I'm replacing the hose BUT it is also the portion the fill hose attaches to on the rear of the tank. Help! Thanks!
