This boat handled the water really nicely and even though I was only using a 6hp outboard it got into plane within 10 seconds.

I need a dinghy for my sailboat. I was looking at the deep v Jon boat. You got me to consider the inflatable. Considering the storage and the overall cost, there's nothing even close to the inflatable with the air floor. You save me a lot of money and a lot of headache. Thanks for the videos buddy.

Guys, I recommend you to try the new version of Saturn because the seams are heat welded. They are much better to my knowledge. I bought the SD version but unfortunately it fell apart because the seams are glue welded. So the glue broke down after 4 years of use. If you want to buy a dinghy, keep away from the glue welded ones and go for the heat welded ones because they will definitely last longer especially if you live in a hot area.

That is good indeed. My ZK380 come with heated welds but my sk385xl did not. I keep it in my room so it is not exposed to heat all the time.

Hi Erick, I have been watching your video for a while. Looks like you had or went through several inflatable boats and motors. You are a lucky man. I have a 10.8’ inflatable boat and a Mercury 6HP. I dreamed to upgrade to a 15 or 20HP motor. After this video I decided to keep my 6 HP. Thanks for your video. Thinking of pulling the 100lbs motor from the car, lift it up to attach to the boat, I think I don’t have energy left to enjoy the boat. Good job Erick.

They make Launching Wheels for the transom. As long as you fit the boat at your truck you can put a 2nd dolly under it at the front. Coupled with the launching Wheels it's not that bad. I consistently load several hundred lbs of gear in mine and launch it. it can be a work out but if you manage it at a slower pace and make a couple trips it would be fine. Anyways just my two -cents. I have a Stryker 380 Pro Series with a Tahatsu 20HP (105.00lbs)

Great informative video! I have an older Saturn XD430, which I haven’t used very much mostly because of the limitation of hauling it around and the slower minn kota trolling motor. I have been thinking of getting it to water more often. I have been thinking of getting a 20 hp motor just so I can get some decent speed. Would it be possible to get some decent speed if I go with a 9.8 hp and make the upgrade to the propeller as you mentioned?

Hi Erick, thanks for all the informative videos. I’m on the fence as to buy the Saturn SD365 11’ or the Azzurro 11’. Looking at the specs the only real difference I see is the Azzurro tube weight is about 10 lbs. more. Is the build quality much better? Currently there’s a $300. price difference. Is it worth it? Could put that towards a motor. Thanks for your opinion.

Hi Erick. I just got this inflatable and love it. I have been keeping it on a dock to access a moored boat. Do you have any suggestions on how to bail it out? I find that water gets trapped between the floors. I've tried sqeezing a hand pump style bailer into the bow where the keel inflation hole is, and also in the stern, but there isn't enough room due to the tight fit of the air floor. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Congrats on the boat it is a really good little boat. I personally own a Saturn BB290 that also has the inflatable floor. I intalled from Transom Wheels that allow me to just drag the boat in land without a problem. I then open the drain valve and lift the front of the boat draining all the water. You could also use a wheel dolly to drag the boat out of the water.

Qs so I have sd385 TRITON and 20hp tohatsu, for some reason, my motor creates huge splashes that comes over transom and into the boat, how can I fix this issue? @ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre 8 күн бұрын
Yeah, that happens a lot with outboards higher than 6hp. My Hangkai 12hp "Tohatsu 9.8hp 2-stroke clone" was doing the exact same. I installed a hydrofoil to it and the issues was reduced tremendously. It still splashes a bit, but it is minimal.

Eric another qs pls, do you have any video that shows how to pull tube on inflatable please? Saturn said you cant attach to transom but need to use d rings, but the question is where to attach them. What would be the location point. Any info would appreciate!
@ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre Ай бұрын
1st, in order to have enough power to pull a tube, the boat and you, you'll need at least 20hp. Then you have to consider the amount of force being applied to the transom by the motor and pulling the tube that could cause a failure. I do not recommend you do it. On a standard boat it's easy, but not on an inflatable.

Hi Eric, Due to your reviews I purchased the TR385. You have been kind and have answered all of my dumb questions. I have one more for you. I'm buying a15HP outboard. Would like to know the size of the overall dimensions of that outboard. I mean top of engine to the bottom. Reason being I am trying to figure out if it will fit inside an Suv or will it be too heavy or too long? Thank you.
@ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre 4 жыл бұрын
Never a dumb question. Here is my take on how to handle a heavy outboard. All of them that are 8hp upto 20hp are all heavy to handle. 90 pound upto 120 pounds. If you choose to go this route I recommend Tohatsu or Suzuki. All others are beyond 100 pounds. Fitting will not be problem since I used to take my old 9.9 Mercury on my Prius just fine and that one was a cow lol. Get a nice outboard stand so you can carry it from your home to your SUV. This will make loading and unloading a lot easier. I myself ride alone most of the time so I sold the 9.9 and kept my 6hp Tohatsu and that's enough for me to get into plane and go about 12mph cruising around. In cummary yes it is heavy but managable with a stand. Inflate the boat near the car so the time spent picking up the outboar is minimal.

Happy to help. The SD models for the most part are very tough with double layers of PVC at the bottom. It isn't impervious to damage, from time to time you may notice scratches but thankfully the keel guard does a pretty good job in my opinion. I currently own a ZK380 and the keel guard does a good job. You could use up to 25hp outboards on this model but a 15-20hp outboard would do the job quite nicely.

Hello Erick! I had been googling and youtubing for weeks now and pretty much seen all of your videos on these inflatable boats and I finally pulled the trigger and ordered the Saturn SD330W (the 11ft wide version). My next task and hurdle is to chose the "right" motor for it. Given that it is a wider version I would expect it to be a bit slower than the regular SD330 version, your thoughts? I would love to put on the Tohatsu 9.8hp motor, but that's too big and heavy to carry around so I am seriously considering the Tohatsu 6hp motor. Do you think the 6hp motor would be able to put the SD330W on plane and safe enough to take three guys out to the bay (not open ocean) to lay few crab traps? Thanks in advance!
@ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre 2 жыл бұрын
It'll be my pleasure to help. Ok, first things first congrats on your purchase. That is a very confy boat to be in, very wide, but limited when it comes to speed. If you don't mind going slow with 3 ppl, the 6hp will do fine, however, if you want to go fast by yourself "getting into place" you may need to tweak the 6hp outboard by putting a lower pitch prop. As an example, my 6hp Tohastu comes with a 7.8x8 propeller and would not let me plane in the boat with 2 ppl in it, so I put a 7.8x7 propeller instead, and I managed to get into plane with 2 ppl in the boat. The same applies if you get the 9.8hp. If it bogs down and does not accelerate as it should, putting a smaller prop will allow it t accelerate faster, giving you a bit more grunt in the water. Feel free to ask any questions here or my FB page "The Muddy Feet Oasis"

@@ErickMartinSucre Wow.. thanks for the quick response, much appreciated it, Erick! One last question, what about a hydrofoil? Do you think installing it on a 6hp motor would help this wide version of inflatable boat? Thanks!
@ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre 2 жыл бұрын
Not really, no. The only reason why I installed hydrofoil on my 9.8 is because I'm 235 pound, and most of the weight is on the back of my ZK380. It is a light boat and it starts to bounce from the front. Using a hydrofoil foil helped get rid of the bouncing and stabilize my boat. Hydrofoils are for stability, not for speed.
@ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre 2 жыл бұрын
You're better off getting the lower pitch prop for the 6hp. Don't expect a lot of speed when 3 people are in the boat. It will get upto speed with just you in it though.
@ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre 2 жыл бұрын
Here is a cookie cutter procedure to follow. 6hp=1 people/2 with lower pitch. 10hp= 2 people/3 with lower pitch. 15hp 3 people/4 with lower pitch. 20hp=4 people/5 with lower pitch. That's more or less the rule of thumb.

Been looking to pull the trigger on one of these Saturn boats for a month long trip to the Florida Keys. Is this SD385 with the air floor a sturdy enough boat for these areas? Looking to mostly explore the back country with it and use as transport out to the reef and party islands. Do you think this model with he air floor is enough boat for 4 people and gear comfortably on these journeys? Debating between this and the wider 15 foot SD470.

Ok, 4 stroke are heavier because it has components that hold the oil inside the engine. 4 stroke outboards tend to run quieter and be more efficient, but weight more. An example is this. 4 stroke 9.8hp outboards is 86 pounds wet. A 2 stroke of similar power is about 70 pounds. Only issue is that 2 strokes are no longer being made, but still are supported by manufacturers. So if you chose to go with a 2 stroke, you can still fix them up. 2 stroke uses gasoline with oil added to it in the gas, but they are loud, smelly, and less efficient.

If you plan on riding by yourself most of the time I recommend an 11 footer like the SD330 or Azzuro Mare AM330. These will be easier to handle day by day by yourself. I've been caught in 2 storms using my old Saturn SD380 and I made it but it was one of the scariest experiences I've had in my life. The water turns this purple color and it feels like the ocean wants to eat you alive. Get whatever brand you want but please be safe on those inflatables. They can only do so much.
