I went to do this repair last Saturday. I have been having issues with removing the key for a long time. It gets stuck just before the point where you turn it to the point where you pull it out. I always had to jiggle it to get it out. Well, I took out the old lock cylinder. I noticed in the video that that tab or clip that is on the base that pops out when the key is in position to pull out, it was getting stuck or not popping out freely. Even after the repair in the video it did not seen to pop out freely. So when I took out the lock cylinder I used a graphite lubricant on that tab/clip and move it back and forth with a small screw driver to work it in. I put back the old lock cylinder and that fixed the problem. The key comes out smooth now and I did not have to replace the cylinder.

So awesome video!!!! I could not have done the job yesterday if it wasn't for the tips ... I want to add something though. Towards the end of the video, he mentioned something still sticking and pointed at two parts. One was a plunger on the cylinder he took out and the other piece is also a plunger type part attached to the wall of the other part. Before I bought a new cylinder, I wondered where it was sticking at. It was here on my application. So I noticed with my thumb nail the part on the not cylinder part had two burs and the other plunger had sharp corners. Guess what I did? I filed them both where there was no sharp edges or burs. I fixed it, least for now. I assume I'll need to replace sometime in the future as wear has caused this but.... Our car is old and want to get a new one soon and not spend much on it for now. I'm sure what I did should just all be replaced with new, but here you go...

2007 Saturn Vue. posted June 2017. My key was stuck in ACC (would not remove, could still start and stop the car). I ended up removing what I believe is the anti-theft, black 'rectangle' from I think the bottom of the ignition (1:42 in the video, bottom of ignition). There are 3 clips to remove this. This allows me to remove my key, start and stop the car.

I have an 09 Saturn Vue XE… ever since I bought it five years ago it has done this & has only gotten worse! The key is getting stuck in ACC (randomly, but when I’m trying to turn the car off) I used to be able to sit there for no more than 5 minutes without touching it & it would eventually “click” & let me remove the key. Now when it’s getting stuck it will not let me remove the key no matter what I do & eventually drains the battery… Does that sound familiar to what you were having trouble with as well? I’m just trying to figure out what needs to be replaced 😅

I have a 2003 Saturn Vue, and a few days ago I noticed that I was having trouble starting it. What i mean by that is when I first would start it up, it was hesitant to start but eventually would start. The other day I had to go somewhere and when I went to start it, It would not start. All I was getting was a click. I thought it might be the battery and replaced the battery thinking that was the issue. Once the new battery was installed. I went to start it and still would't start. Could this be a sign that the ignition cylinder needs replacement?

My initial key works for my door and ignition cylinder. The new lock cylinder switch I purchased did not come with new key, which is fine. With that being said, do I need any parts from the original? They also don't look identical but kinda similar. I read on An Amazon review that it really didn't matter or prevent re-keying\installation as far as them not being identical Thanks!

So 97 sequence or removal method is compatible with a 94?
@shepherdguy8 жыл бұрын
I know this is late since you made this several months ago but your issue with the new lock cylinder still being hard to turn is not with the lock cylinder - it is a worn key. If you give a locksmith your key code, they can make you a new key and I think you'll be surprised to see the difference between the old and new keys. The new key should now turn smoothly. Don't have a key copied from the old key as you'll still have the same issue - it needs to be cut from the key code.

@RevRunRegan i had to go to pull a part and look for an SUV that had the key in it and remove the entire key housing. There is a process you need to do when you install a new one to "program" it to the computer so the anti-theft will allow the new key housing.

This looks like exactly the same lock cylinder I got as a replacement for my 2002 Saturn SL1. According to Amazon's fitment information, it is. I took my cylinder to a locksmith to code it to my original keys. I replaced the ignition housing as well as it was damaged from theft. I put it in the new coded cylinder like in your video, turned it like your video until it went all the way in. I think I did everything the same, but now it won't turn at all, it's stuck in the lock or off position. I have tried pressing in the "key in ignition" button or whatever that's officially called, then trying to turn the key, I get no movement. I tried to remove the cylinder with the allen key and I can't get it out either. Any ideas?
@Jackleg9 жыл бұрын
+nothanksgoogleplus I do have one idea and this is assuming its keyed correctly. If you look at the video at the video around 22:38 I point to a piece just above that is not moving. If you slowly; push that in with another key or screw driver as you turn the key, it might turn.   mine started to stick right there and would not move from the off position.  give that a try.  I assume the SL1 is the same. I don't know anything past that point right now. It's like 20 degrees outside and I can't look at mine as reference. Not sure what happened to the text here. I did an edit and it added a bunch of characters.
@Jackleg9 жыл бұрын
+nothanksgoogleplus oh yeah, and make sure your steering wheel is not in the lock position, sometimes that happens. Just move it back and forth.

+Jackleg I tried moving the wheel back and forth, I tried using a flathead screwdriver to push that tab on the cylinder, then try to move the cylinder. Mine looks like it went a little bit further in the assembly than yours did. I'll try more tomorrow but I think I should have just towed my car to a mechanic after it was recovered instead of dealing with all of this. Thanks for the video and the help.

There is one key action that is not shown in this video that took me finding this video to "get" : kzbin.info/www/bejne/aomtpJaLi9uSp5o The lock assembly was coming loose but it would move less than 1/8" before getting stuck solid. This video shows that there is a black plastic block clipped onto the bottom of the lock cylinder assembly that has a locking pin in it. As soon as I used a screw driver to pry the block loose the cylinder lock came right out. Hopefully this helps someone else.
