I love this performance so much!!! Finally, Mitch gets to show off the strength and beauty of his angelic voice. No producers keeping him in the background to minimize his "orientation!" Plus, Avi gets to SING! Not just bass air guitar in the background! This is Pentatonix in full bloom without the limitations of the competition. Love, love, LOVE this performance! Great reaction, too. Happy Easter from Canada.

They do have an Official Video of "I Need Your Love"... definitely check it out, it's great! One of my favorites from their early years. As good as they were on their run through the Sing Off, it's amazing how much they had grown in just the nearly 2 years since their time on the show. This arrangement and performance was so much more polished and intricate than they were back then.
@perfectkismet2 жыл бұрын
They didn't say the words, but this definitely felt like a massive eff you to Sony... and the producers of the show. If it's indeed true that the show forced Mitch to the back and Avi to "stay in his lane" as the bass... then they chose the best song/arrangement as their victory lap. You DEFINITELY have heard Jewel if you went in any store that played top 40 in the mid-90s. You Were Made For Me. Who Will Save Your Soul. They were everywhere and played to death. Not country... she was among the Lilith Fair crowd. She was much bigger than Ben Folds Five and Sarah Bareilles... though they also had hits anyone who heard top 40 in the 2000s would be aware of on some level.

But a very classy fu. They didn’t need to rub it in that they had been mistreated. They just needed to let everyone shine instead of it being Scott and four back-up singers. Now, I’m from more of a choral background and maybe it’s different in acapella world, but it feels all wrong to push someone to the front instead of having everyone be equally important. (typos corrected)
@susanb42132 жыл бұрын
@@sannalopperi-vihinen233 Well, most bands have "lead singers," so it wasn't really all that unheard of at the time. Plus, Pentatonix was Scott's brainchild-at that time in their development, the one who pushed the whole idea and issue would naturally have been the early leader. I like the dynamic better now, but what was happening at the time was not all that radical imo. This was a great performance and having Avi come in at the end was just fantastic. People were stunned, I think, at his beautiful non Bass voice. A triumph all way around , and the cherry on the cake for me was Sean running up there so joyfully and hugging them all, then prompting a standing O for them. So fun.

It was funny watching you fangirl out. As far as Pentatonix, they were wise to keep it professional and chill as to the show, Sony, NBC, etc. The show invited them back for future performances. Sony ended up giving them contracts under different labels and the RCA contract was better than the one they won. NBC has been a major supporter. Pentatonix has had 3 NBC Christmas specials, appeared on many specials such as Thanksgiving Day events, Tree Lighting events, Rockefeller Center events, years of morning shows and late-night show appearances, etc. Their positive attitude helped their career success immensely.

Here's a super late answer to your question-I started dancing when I was 4, by 8 was taking 7 classes a week, added theatre at 12, choreographed my first musical at 15 & choreographed all our musicals til I graduated & helped create my schools first real dance program that is still taught today. Everyone was pressuring me to go to college on a musical theatre degree & they all thought I wouldn't make it as a performer right out of school, but 6 months after graduation I was involved in 3 shows at the same time & stayed that busy for 2 years, went to England for a year for broader training, came home & continued performing around the world till I had to retire at 35! At 25, I went back to my little town for my theatre directors retirement & everyone who told me to go to college like them were working jobs they hated, but my director was so proud of me, & I left a legacy there with my dance program that has given thousands of kids who couldn't afford it a chance to learn to dance to help their own dreams of performing come true! So yes, I know the feeling you're describing well! Aren't we good eggs?🤣 Thanks as always Nick!

Avi / Tim was A MOMENT, wasn’t it? Kinda King Kong meets Godzilla LOL! Not to take anything away from Home Free because I am a Pentafry, I always thought their season was a little easier than the Pentatonix season since it was abbreviated. Think of all the different arrangements and the strain on their voices that PTX went through. It makes me admire them even more. Plus they didn’t have any professional performance experience like Home Free did. That said, I think Home Free had an amazing run on the Sing Off, and I would love to see you react to their performances.
@kristinhowk64652 жыл бұрын
Season 3 was definitely the peak of the Sing-Off, with 16 groups competing. Then they had 18-ish months before Season 4, as they had to find a new sponsor. I think there were 12 groups competing in Season 4? So 6 or 7 judged performances instead of 12. I take nothing away from Home Free, but PTX definitely had to work harder to win.
@gailseatonhumbert2 жыл бұрын
Avi and Kevin had separately had performance experience. Kevin was for example on "From the Top" playing saxaphone at 17 and another playing cello and Avi was with Fermata Nowhere and Singcopation touring in Europe and Australia and winning awards himself before the Sing-Off.

Home Free had performance experience as a group which served them well, however Austin had only been with them for a few months when they auditioned. They all had day jobs and didn’t participate in The Sing Off tour. The other group was Vocal Rush, a large high school a cappella group. They placed third and also couldn’t tour because they had to go back to school. The group at the beginning who sang We Wish You a Merry Christmas is the Filharmonic who placed 4th. They were on the tour and are still a successful group. The other touring group was VoicePlay who finished 5th/6th (two groups went home the week they were eliminated.)

Such an amazing season of the Sing-Off. Home Free, visit from Pentatonics and Peter Hollens’ group, On the Rocks!
@JoleneDaviesITKWJ2 жыл бұрын
Yes Home Free won the year after PTX... it was special to watch it happen live bc both groups were just in a league of their own... Front runners right from the start!

See I want Kevin and the Rupster to just go wild and do a Beatbox off for like 10 minutes on a Stage somewhere at some point in time!!!!!

Except, then Kevin can just cheat by suddenly breaking into that gorgeous pure tenor and Adam's relegated to the background.

@@sarahgould5435 No, Adam can sing, he's not a pure tenor, more of baritone but he can sing. He just doesn't do it much. But on "How Great Thou Art" he sounds great, and he sings in the "Butts Remix" and something else I can't remember.

Home Free season is much shorter than the previous years. I don't know if you know but the group that started the night off was The Filharmonics that were in the second Pitch Perfect along with Pentatonix. The woman judge was Jewel a singer. Truly enjoy watching your reaction to this video.

Hey, you still need to do the official video of I need your love by PTX 😉
@ruth21412 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you finally did this and I wish you would do the rest of PTX's final season videos -- the "final performance 2" where they perform with Nick. It's worth it just to see Nick's reaction to teenage Kirstie flirting with him. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3PZqX9mmK6YoNE Also the 18-minute "final 3 to the winner" video, with short documentaries and "swan songs" for the final three groups, final judges' advice and the announcement of the winner. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIHWhaWeZamSeZo
