Absolutely, and the look of surprise and joy on Mitch's face when Shawn rushes the stage shouts out that it was completely genuine and unexpected. I think Shawn's just so damned happy to see the way they succeeded.

The record label shelved them almost immediately after they won. I think it was like a matter of weeks. I'm not very sure about this, but I think The Sing-Off got canceled after the third season and Pentatonix fans were a huge part of why it came back. That's why there was a year break. I don't think Pentatonix blamed the show for what the record label did, so they came back to offer some encouraging words to the competing groups and to give a guest performance, because this show was where they started and where they got a lot of the fans that jumpstarted their KZbin channel.

my favorite thing about this video is when Shawn goes up to hug them at the end. it was like he was welcoming them home like a proud papa. so wholesome! ❤️

Pentatonix had and still does have a close relationship with NBC. It was that tie and not Sony that brought them back. It's ironic that RCA signed up PTX after they proved themselves on You Tube. Sony owns RCA. Everything comes full circle. Thanks for all your reactions.

Love this performance and your reaction! The show did not happen in 2012, so this was actually 2 years after they won. They had been doing some early tours and made quite a few YT videos and were working on an album, getting tighter all the time. I think this was the first time Avi had a real singing solo on the show (not just "It's Pentatonix!) and I think it surprised Ben and Shawn how wonderful his singing voice was.

Avi did have some solos but they were never really promoted. Here is a beautifully shot video of him soloing in Standing By. Its beautiful and well worth a teaction.

They do have another Sing Off performance. They did a holiday medley in Season 5.

I don't know if it was a contract, but the winners of season 2 performed in the finale of season 3, so there was certainly a precedent. If you wanted to keep going with the Sing-Off, there are some great groups from season 2, including Street Corner Symphony, featuring Adam Chance.

So happy you reacted to this one. (they also return for the season 5 finale too do a Holiday Medley) I also still say you should react to the season 3 opening numbers. I know you did the first one on the old channel, but that was one of only two that PTX doesn't appear in. (they're not in the 1st and 3rd episode)
