Layne and Eli worked their magic and brought AleXa, who filmed her part in South Korea in the video with them. The sky's the limit anymore. But vocally it has been for a while, and yes Layne seems to be working overtime on new ways to spin his beatboxing and Eli's voice is Sheesh!

Alexa is our chibi solo K-pop artist (she's 4'11"). She was born and raised in Tulsa, she moved to S. Korea in 2016 where she participated in several "audition" shows. As you saw, she is an incredible dancer and even won the dance portion of one of those audition shows. She signed with ZB Label (a subsidiary of Zaney Bros. a prominent video production company in S.K.). She made her official debut in 2019 with her single and MV "Bomb". She just recently won the "American Song Contest" show and is now, as far as I know, back in Korea working on her comeback. She's awesome and her story is pretty interesting. Her mother was adopted by an American couple when she was five, so pert of the reason Alexa wanted to become a K-pop artist was to try to find her mothers birth parents or extended family. Anyway, that's a little about Alexa, great dancer, singer and overall person. cheers

Don't forget the minis either. Cesar was stunning in Crazy - a different vocal quality than I'd heard at the time it came out - gorgeous. And LAYNE does a quick vocal line in I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire that's completely stylish and really shows off not just his beautiful voice, but his vocal chops.

What I enjoy about Voiceplay is their ability to TOTALLY present a techno-digital performance like this, just after dropping an acoustically perfect "Dream On."

When you asked Layne "What was That?!" I don't know what *that* was, either. But he did something similar at the very, very end of "We don't talk about Bruno," but a lot of reactors seem to have overlooked it, because they were blown away (rightly so, to be fair) by Ashley Dianne's ending run. That man is the mad scientist of vocal percussion.

I think Geoff used his full range in this. From Satan's sub-basement into the stratosphere with a high note. Layne and his inhaled bass notes and wild beatboxing drives this beast. Cesar and his almost angelic voice and Eli's gritty rock-tenor add to the pure perfection. Than we add in AleXa's voice and I just can't stop listening

Snortboxing!! 🤣. Glad I didn’t have a mouthful - I just about choked laughing when I read that. I have given up trying to figure out what he’s going to try to do next. I think that one of the things that sets him so far apart from everyone else is that he does not limit himself to a traditional drum kit. I love all the funny little sounds he makes whether it’s bubbles, snorts, roars. It’s like there’s a whole percussive orchestra behind him or maybe inside of him. I recently read someone’s comment that said it’s like he swallowed an alien. I think that probably sums it up pretty well.

It is definitely worth the money to get the anti-glare coating. They also have something to reduce eye strain from devices. Agree about Cesar-and I don’t think we’ve even scratched the surface with him. He has some more extended solos in the Voiceplay minis. Also Eli-both he and Cesar are able to change their vocal timbre to fit characters. In the minis there’s a lot of Eli singing without the grit-he can sound very smooth and even sweet when he wants to. Throughout this I have a hard time knowing when some of those low percussion sounds are Geoff and when they’re Layne-I think both of them did some. I love that Layne is releasing the beast more-he really is exceptional at beatboxing (AND again in the minis, we get to hear some pretty awesome singing from him). Finally, Geoff-that, I dunno, “atom bomb” sound at the end! The first dozen or so times I listened to this my brain would just hit overload and go, “BUH” 😵‍💫. I’m finally getting to where I can remember to breathe AND still listen and pick out different parts to follow. Great reaction, as usual!! See you next time!

As a former dispensing optician...Thank you for beating me to the anti-reflective coating comment. It's something O would recommend to everyone who is A) new to glasses B) works at the computer for extended periods C) works with a camera/lighting. It reduces glareback or flashes from the lights into the camera lense, eases eye strain from screen use...and new wearers (especially those who are... Not so young) will find that not seeing what I call "back glare" the reflection of your own eyeball that can happen without AR coating... Well..trust this ol' lady... It is very worth it

Great reaction Nick! Layne outdid himself on the beatboxing. Alexa is a K-Pop singer from Tulsa, Oklahoma of all places. She lives and works in South Korea now but just won the American Song Contest for her song "Wonderland". She filmed her parts in South Korea against a green screen and Layne and Eli worked their voodoo editing magic to make it look like she was with them in Florida. The BTS video for this on their patreon was hysterical. Pretty sure Kathy films them. They put a ton of effort into this one. At the end of BTS, Geoff and Kathy were at PetSmart getting stuff for their cat and Geoff got pooped on by birds twice! Once on the arm and second time in his hair. He has the best hair I swear!

But I just wanted to let you know that Voiceplay has a second channel now its called Voiceplay Minis and its for the their "minis" which are simpler videos that they shoot of doing covers of shorter songs, but they are just as good as the longer videos on the main channel in my opinion. They do Surface Pressure from Encanto with Ashley Diane that they did We Dont Talk About Bruno with. They do Crazy which is a Patsy Kline song originally and their latest is I Dont Want To Set The World On Fire which is also really excellent.

I really think they need to stop listing themselves as tenor, bari or bass since NONE of them stay in their lane. Speaking of Layne? Holy cow! He does this inhale technique and has actually gone one note lower than Geoff with it. You can hear it as the last note in SH-Boom. Eli and AleXa hitting the same notes back to back; Cesar, who's listed as baritone, hitting in Eli's range; Geoff with not just the basement notes but a fantastic high belt, which we're seeing more of and it surprises me more than his lows to he honest; AleXa, another great guest star that I expect will be back. Their motto should be No Lanes, No Limits. I agree with you about Cesar. He's impressing me more and more. He said in a interview he doesn't want to know his range because it might limit what he can do. Watch their new VoicePlay Minis channel and you'll get more of him doing solo work. If I remember correctly, and I might not, he was at Layne's studio filming for something else and Geoff was there. He asked Layne "who is that guy and why is he not with us?" and it went from there. He was the perfect addition for VP.

Tip from a long time glasses wearer: get the antiglare coating. I don’t know whether my eye doctor did something special or not but it seems like the anti-glare is on the inside as well, which means a lot because I am really really nearsighted. So my glasses are very very curved on the inside. Before I got anti-glare it was like I was in a disco all the time with all the reflections from every single angle. It’s much much better now. Highly recommended. Oh yeah like the reaction time also 😂

Obviously they agreed and she was recorded and filmed in SK. She also sent a clip of dance moved by phone for them to copy. That was fun. Anyway they worked their magic and produced this. I agree, Cesar is such a great addition to the group and yes he has said it was him in Dream On doing the hight notes, and what's more he's incredibly cute. Bleh. I love VoicePlay but this missed on all levels. If you've watched Arcane, then watched the official video for this song, you understand the depth it has lyrically and emotionally in context with the series. It feels like no one in this performance watched the show. They just thought a couple characters looked cool (possibly spoilering some stuff for people planning to watch) and did a bunch of weird vocal gymnastics which led to totally missing the power and gravity behind it.
@chanmax2
@chanmax2 2 жыл бұрын
I think they just choose the Arcane "aesthetic", it's not a tribute to the series, maybe you misunderstood their intentions? They always choose a song to cover to put their own spin on it, that's what makes them specials and apart from others groups. I don't see it as "weird gymnastics", but I can agree (and hear) how this one sounds "different", a little "weird" or maybe too "electro" from their other covers, and it's perfectly fine to disagree or don't like their artistic choice, but I don't agree with the "bleh, they missed on all levels", it's seems a little bit too harsh to me.
