Spice Girls, Destiny Child and Pussycat Dolls were all greats for their time, in their own respective manner, but the groups mostly focused around one or two members, like Beyonce for Destiny Child and Nicole for Pussycat Dolls. I grew up with them and they'll always be special to me. But Blackpink takes EVERYTHING to a whole new level; vocals and rap (in 3 languages, English, Korean and Japanese), dance choreography, music and video production, aesthetics and their brand and fkn launches it into space.

@@jfprizzy Well said. Ironically I too used Beyonce and Nicole as my two examples when I discussed with my wife the past nature of group bands, both girl and boy. And while Jennie might have originally been intended to be the focal point of BP I'm not sure that lasted even half way through Boombayah. I don't think YG had a clue as to what they created. Even Teddy remarked on their unexpected success during the documentary. Regardless, BP represents something new and so far has yet to be understood and/or reproduced by any 4th gen group.

Blackpink is very popular. They used a Blackpink song for the trailer to Hotel Transylvania 4. Many of their videos have close to or over a Billion views. And all of their MVs are like this. Kpop videos are eye candy anyway, but Blackpink is on another level. Their production values are always over the top. And the genre blend like nobody's business. You never know what's coming next with them - but hey hit hard and they got attitude for days. I'd start with their debut tracks from 2016 ("Boombayah" and "Whistle"). If you want to start with their biggest hits, I'd start with "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du", "How You Like That", or "Kill This Love". At least 5 of their music videos have over 1 billion views each - The dance performance video for one of those tracks also has over 1 billion views. A dance performance video. They aren't just music stars though - they are also fashion icons, representing Chanel, Dior, Celine, Yves St Laurent, Bulgari and others. Two of them now have acting on their resume as well.

The four members all grew up differently, they are each unique which is part of the reason that they blend so well together: JENNIE, in red at the beginning, also the second rapper in the street scene, was born in S. Korea but went to school in New Zealand for five years before she signed at 15 years old and moved back to S. Korea. LISA, in beige right after Jennie, and the rapper in the Celine hat, is actually Thai, was born and raised in Thailand before she was signed at 14 years old. She was the first non-Korean hired by their company. ROSÉ (pronounced Ro-Zay, like the wine, NOT Rose like the flower) is the blonde-haired Main Vocalist who was holding a beating heart, also playing the guitar. She was born in New Zealand then moved to Australia where she lived until she was signed at 16 years old. JISOO (pronounced Jee-Soo) was playing the instrument as the video began, she is also the "vampire" with long nails who puts on a pink face mask. Jisoo was born and raised in S. Korea where she signed at 16 years old. The girls are all multilingual, speaking between 3-5 languages each, all members are fluent English speakers except Jisoo.

Jisoo understands English just fine but prefers to communicate in Korean (which is why she has that much of an accent when she does use English; mostly just lack of practice) while the other three ladies are proficient enough to have normal conversations at the very least. As long as nobody is talking about things that take specialized language, they are just fine (it is the Entertainment world, not Rocket Science or Brain Surgery). Even YOU, you elitist snob, do NOT know EVERY word in English (and how to use it). There would only be very few people in history who knew every word of any language and that would be only for a fleeting moment because new words are created every day (or new meanings are assigned to older words).

Just to help you prevent a catastrophe I'm going to help you with "damage control": It sounds crazy but NEVER call BLACKPINK "the female BTS", and vice-versa. In K-Pop there are vicious fanwars that have gotten steadily more brutal, including death threats against members and filthy comments from toxic fans. The worst fanwar is between BTS fans (ARMY) and BLACKPINK fans (BLINKS). I don't want to get into it, better to leave it alone, as I've seen reactors literally have to close their channels down because of innocent comments that they made. The two groups are very different and have different approaches and appeals, so please just enjoy BLACKPINK and judge them on their own merit. The eldest member of BlackPink is Jisoo.(whose full name is Kim Jisoo) was the third member to join Blackpink. She's the lead vocalist and is considered an expert harmonizer.
