Saucony Triumph 20 Initial Review: No Longer a Ponderous Beast! Lighter, More Cushioned and Quicker!

Hey Sam , its Michael. Enjoying both the 19 and the 20. Preferring the upper on the 19 but definitely the midsole on the 20 is more to my liking. For as plush as the 20 is I must agree, the hold is amazing

Had mine 2 weeks and already gone through 50 miles in them. I really like my triumph 19 and ran over 300 miles on them but the 20 is huge improvement. Fantastic shoe and my No 1 of 2022. Will run in them in the Chicago marathon in October. Hats off to saucony for this one !Great review Sam thanks. Ian 🇬🇧

Wonderful review, Sam. I'm wondering about the Cloudsurfer 7 as compared to the Triumph 20.. Both 10 mil drops and cushy response feeling. What do you think? Thanks.

Thanks Tim! The Cloudsurfer is more fun, agile and quick but.. its forefoot compresses a lot and for me after 6 miles or so gets quite tiring. If you land mid foot to forefoot ( I am more a heel striker) it could feel thinner yet. For short runs it is great though. Triumph 20 has plenty of excitement but not as much as Surfer, is more protective, more stable and more long run suitable.

This triumph nailed it. If you close your eyes it fits like a brooks: perfectly.

I find it fits much more precisely than Brooks who usually favors "step in" comfort over the comfortable performance fit here

Yes indeed the fit there is performance and similar. Saucony doesn't compromise on hold or security for the sake of an initial try on in any of their 2022 shoes.

In our written review in detail but more stable for sure and bouncier than Invincible and less directed (no foam plate and rigid rear) and bouncier than GR3 which for me likely will end up a faster big shoe than T20 but a more prescriptive one less fun for slow to moderate paces than T20

I’m not Sam but I’ve tried both and the Endorphin Speed is MUCH softer.

Does this still have the two layers of insole construction? The lower tpu yellow insole in triumph17 was the best part of that shoe, I still put it in others for more cushion.

I have just purchased Brooks glysrine gts 20 wide and ASICS gel kayano 28 extra wide I am happy with my Brooks glysrine gts 20 wide but I am disappointed with gel kayano 28 extra wide as it is giving me blister on my right foot the finger next to the smaller finger…….Now I am interested in buying a saucony shoes as I have flat and wide foot which shoes whould you suggest I was looking for guide 15, Hurricane 23, tempus or endorphin please help me your suggestion matters most

Sorry hard to judge for wide feet as mine are narrower. I don't think Tempus come in wide. Guide 15 I think do and pretty sure Hurricane does as well

Softer than the tempus, but slightly wobbly, and a bit heavier. Endo pro is way stiffer, has more spring, and is lighter. The fit is also narrower in the triumph than the other two

The cumulus is a bit more stable, with a flexible toe off. This shoe is more bouncy, livelier, with a stiffer roll on the toe off.

I want to get a new max cush shoe. I can't decide between the Triumph and Shift.

1st question which max cush work well and which don’t and for what run purposes. As in the video one Shift is more rocker based somewhat firmer and high forefoot cushion and 4mm drop other T20 is bouncier, more flexible and 10mm drop.

@@RoadTrailRun I'm looking for something versitile. I really enjoyed the Shift V1. It was great for long runs/recovery efforts. I was also able to pick up the pace for short efforts during a long run. I've never ran in a Triumph.

Stay tuned as we need to do more testing. Really depends on your uses and paces. Triumph more conventional non plated and will favor slower paces more mellow running while SC while higher stack is plated and more aggressive in feel.

Flat and dull for me compared to T20. Drop diff of 2mm only part of equation.

The 20 is much softer. Compresses alot more. Depends on what you weigh mostly. I barely compress the 18 or 19 at all basically. I weigh 60 kg. The 20 is at least 20 percent more compressive with my weight and technique. 18 was a durable beast. 19 upper tore in like 4 weeks lol.

I personally would pick T20 unless you needed more stability closer to a support/stablity shoe then Nimbus but T20 too has decent stability for a big soft shoe
