As an avid skyscraper enthusiast, I knew of this project pretty early on in construction. The fact it's something like seven towers all together with them all being very tall is just massive, not to mention the clock that dwarfs all. I thought the complex had over 7,000 hotel rooms or something equally insane but makes sense when they'll be busy for the Hajj.
@GilmerJohnАй бұрын
Well, that works out to about $2 million$ per hotel room. But there are other revenue producing spaces. It's close to being in the "profitable" range believe it or not.
@muazunais2378Ай бұрын
@@GilmerJohn I have been there the rooms are booked all round the year, during off seasons the cheapest room in the hotel cost like $300 per night but during the hajj season the same rooms go for $5000 per night. The hotels doesn't have ways to book onsite everything is online and it when a room gets vacated it soon gets Filled. It wasn't built to be profitable or money making in mind. The entire building is a donation to the mosque by the royal family. The mosque now owns it and the profits are used for all expenses in the mosque

It's hardly to absorb the general crowd for the peak season, it's for the rich so they can put down money and get an exclusive view of the Kaaba from their residence. *Finally* they don't actually have to join the poor people as if they were equals when doing the hajj, they can just stay surrounded by luxury and worship... Most Muslims hate the tower though. It's overly garish, and ruins the Meccan view. They sell souvenirs of the big clock alongside Kaaba models, which I found vexing. Especially more so when a single souvenir has the Kaaba and the tower (in a wildly out of scale way). You either have the tower looming over Kaaba when standing with both in a line, or have to turn your back to Kaaba to check the time when standing in between them. Props to the hard working engineers for making it not only an eyesore, but a MASSIVE eyesore. The only religious significance this tower has is how it's a fulfillment of the prophesy in our Hadiths about the competition between desert Bedouins on who can make the tallest structure. A portent of the end times.

What is most astonishing is the Christians’ rejection of the marriage of the Messenger - may God bless him and grant him peace - when she was nine years old and he was over fifty, while they see no harm in the Virgin Mary being engaged to Joseph the carpenter when she was twelve years old and he was over ninety, meaning that the age difference between them was more than seventy-eight years, as mentioned by the Catholic Encyclopedia. There is not a single phrase in their “holy” book that prohibits the marriage of girls at the age of nine, or even a single sentence specifying the age of marriage. Didn’t Ahaz get married when he was ten years old and have children when he was eleven years old? It is stated in 2 Kings 2:16: “Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. And it is stated in 2 Kings 2:18: “In the third year of Hoshea the son of Elah king of Israel, Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign. He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years.” Ahaz was 36 years old. If his son became king when he was about 25 years old, his father would have been blessed with him when he was about 11 years old. Their priest, Munis Abdul Nour, mentioned in his book Doubts about the Bible: “There is no objection to there being 11 years between him and his father,” and he began to give historical examples of that. It is well known that the age of maturity of females is less than the age of maturity of males living in the same region, so this means that his wife might have been nine or ten years old like him, and she was even fit to give birth at that age. So why do you deny marriage to Aisha at such an age, and your book does not deny it? How do they deny marriage to the beloved Mustafa at a time when they believe that the prophets committed the abominations and obscenities of incest? Such as their claim that Lot - peace be upon him - committed adultery with his two daughters, and that David committed adultery with the wife of a soldier in his army. Rather, he ordered the army commander to uncover him during war so that the enemies could kill him. They do not find it shameful to describe Solomon - peace be upon him - as an infidel and that he worshipped idols in order to please his pagan wives.@@2011arish

Not true. The Arabs desecrated the kaaba by putting up idols in and around it. The kaaba itself predates the idol worship. Now, the Kaaba is the direction of prayer and can be compared to the Western Wall/Wailing wall in Jerusalem for the Jews. They pray in that direction, they touch the wall, but they do not worship the wall. Somehow i see nobody accuse Jews of polytheism.

@starrysockАй бұрын
I mean, a pretty core tenant of any sort of human creativity is that it never exists in a vacuum. Anything we make is inevitably impacted by what came before, and can therefor always be compared to it based on the degrees of separation from it Nothing is "truly" unique, so I think saying more or less unique is valid considering there's a huge spectrum between a carbon-copy and some theoretical peak
