Well, they have already performed test areas, in particular one south of Jeddah, which needed some water to get started and later thrived on its own naturally. It was designed to slow and collect its own water from minimal rainfall. This also stopped flash flooding in the test areas. So, I hope this can be expanded but it will take some time. The positive effects way outshine the drawbacks.

@margaretjohnson74842 күн бұрын
@@scGD10 Thanks Michael. It is lovely that drinking water is being made available for everyone and that Saudi is spending some of its huge financial resources on reclaiming desert lands, which will benefit all of us by helping to manage global warming. It's just really scary not to know exactly how such huge quantities of fresh water are produced, eg how much from desalination, how much from irreplaceable aquifers, how much from recycled used water and how much can be gathered and preserved from rain water and whether all this adds up to enough to keep the new greenery alive. Also it's rather scary if the water for people is provided in long-term polluting plastic bottles. Saudi representatives were very cautious about looking at reducing plastic manufacture at the recent conference.
@scGD102 күн бұрын

This in not a simple project and it’s ambition was mentioned. To improve the welfare of citizens. Many studies have shown how being around plants improve human mental health. Unfortunately this too will come at an incredibly cost in regards to emissions (co2) A break even figure with regards to carbon being sequestred or savings through renewable energy could never be achieved. Maybe in 5,000 years. Massive amounts of this energy will be required to desalinate water which is already the case for all of their water. It’s not green washing but don’t be fooled that’s it’s any benefit long term to the environment. Our immediate and existential treat called climate change.
