I lived and worked in Saudi Arabia almost 30 years. I have great respect for the country that allowed me to Provide for my family. I raised my family there also. My wife is a nurse and I am an engineer that works in construction. Saudi Arabia has been good to us but... there is a big but.... if you can live with all the restrictions and doesnt have a choice to go somewhere that has freedom. Then it is ok. For starters I’d he is in front of her he will be the first to receive the danger . Wether it be something small like something she may trip and fall on if he is walking ahead of her then he can clear the path for her. If there is something dangerous approaching a wild animal or someone with a gun he needs to b in FRONT of her to protect her . It's unfortunate that the video's guide called Abeer "combative" (see 10:45) for being professional and persistant in exceling in her profession and pursuing her certification. Clearly she is proud of Saudia Arabia and wants to share her country's rich history and heritage with the vistors - they are all hoping will come. Abeer is also showing great care and leadership to the next generation...and surely that would not send a good message to those wanting to visit if they couldn't even allow women, who are already familar with the country, to be tour guides.
@TessaAvonlea3 жыл бұрын
Combative often has negative connotations, but I don't think he meant it in a negative way. The definition is "ready or eager to fight or argue", which is pretty accurate to her attitude of wanting to change the rules to make them less oppressive.

Very interesting program . I am french and I have been many time to Saudi Arabia , and as a foreigner , I have been secluded in a compound every time those past 10 years ( because of safety issues) 30 years ago safety company restrictions were not as strict . It is nice to have an insight of what goes on from both side of Saudi Arabian society; I must admit , I wouldn’t mind going on holiday in Saudi Arabia so long I have a tour guide male or female . Nice to have the people s point of view of there own society .

Though this documentary does portray a lot of parts of what Saudi Arabia is like, there are many different cities in Saudi that are different from what is shown in this documentary. Such as Al - Khobar and Riyadh, these places have become much modern and open with foreigners/expats and locals with the night life and such.

By reading the comments here, I think the young woman got misunderstood by most here. First of all the publisher cut off a lot of her speech and second of all she never said, she wasnt happy in Saudi Arabia. People behaving like she tries hard to escape, but thats not the case. She even said, she wouldnt like to put off her Hijab and she also said she wouldnt like to go to mixed parties. So not so "free" like you all wished her to be. She is adorable, no question. Thats why the Arabians try to do everything to protect their daughters without restricting them too much. That strange preacher said something very beautiful: Women are the souls of our bodies. Maybe we should have a look at our women first before pointing to others. I can relate with an Islamic girl ao much more than with a liberal Western girl. I always felt like that.

This is untrue in modern ksa cities. Young Men and women are still introduced to each other through the elders and spend many hours getting to know each other to see if there is a connection. If there is not a connection, either person can express their disinterest in that person and will go look for another mate.
