Your sauna was the inspiration for my backyard build. Just loving it and having the changeroom is a must.

I’m honoured to be an inspiration. I hope you didn’t wait a whole year to finish your change room like I did haha.

I think a couple of pneumatic struts holding up those attic doors would add some safety in case it swings close while you're not hold them up.

Nicely done! Good features and efficient use of the space. Our backyard sauna also has a 4 foot change room. We also stoke the fire from this room. It's nice on cool days to have a warm room to change in. I'm looking forward to seeing the exterior projects as well!
@JonathanKuhn9 ай бұрын
I kind of wish me made ours to be stoked from the outside or the change room. Our room heats up nicely with the glass door so at least it’s warm. 🤙
@flyinfinn20079 ай бұрын
Each has their advantages. Stoking inside the sauna provides some nice lighting and sounds from the fire. It's also one less hole in the wall, which would lead to heat loss in the sauna. The only reason I stoke from my changeroom is due the stove I found secondhand ($100).

Beautiful work as always! Can you share a link or the name of the LEDs you used in your hot room? I fear ordering the wrong thing. Thanks for sharing all the great information!

I am having a hard time finding the exact product. There is a similar one by the same brand listed in this video description. I think the only difference is that it’s RGB so you have more colour flexibility.

Great Build! I'm taking a lot of this for my upcoming build. Just a heads up though.. you may run into some frosting/condensation issues in that storage area. You have an uninsulated/non vapor barriered hatch leading into that area. All the heat from your change room can easily access that area.
@JonathanKuhn6 ай бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the feedback. That’s very helpful info. I haven’t noticed any issues yet because of the infrequent use in the cold months. I actually leave the doors open a crack and throw in a couple more logs after a sauna session to bake some moisture out of the hot room. My assumption is that over time the moisture makes its way out of the doors and out the roof vent and things sort of level out. Is that logical?
@bradenfischer85786 ай бұрын
@@JonathanKuhn Think of the change room and attic space above the sauna sperate from the sauna. You don't have a continuously insulated and vapor barriered envelope. you may never run into an issue as the change room isn't heated but others could. Any warm air in your change room will be holding some level of moisture. As it "leaks" up into the attic through your triangle doors it will meet the cool roof which can lead to condensation. Sure you can mitigate it through some of the items your saying but the proper thing to do would be to eliminate the issue completely. Would happily share some ideas with you on some solutions. Again, I just want to say that your videos are really well done and I have learnt a lot! keep it up!

Fantastic build and video, thank you for sharing. What kind of LED light did you use for inside the hot room? Isn’t there some concern about them holding up to the heat?
@JonathanKuhn9 ай бұрын
The LEDs are wet rated silicone LED strips. I tried a few brands before I landed on some for Shine Decor (linked in description). I’ve had no concerns with the heat. They are mounted bench height and the sauna only ever hits around 100c which shouldn’t affect the silicone.

Can you share a link of thr robe hooks you used. My cold room is only 2 1/2 feet wide and i have this weird fear of losing an eye on regular wall hooks

I don’t have a link to the specific ones I used since they are from a shop that went out of business. I did find these though that look really nice as well. amzn.to/3Y66Ua3

Thank you for this series Jonathan! It's been so helpful in planning my own build. How have you found the sauna stove's performance for the space provided? I am looking to get the "Harvia Linear 22 GreenFlame" in a 8x7x7 steam room, but I am worried this is overkill and that it may be hard to regulate the temp.
@JonathanKuhn9 ай бұрын
We’ve really been enjoying the stove. The green flame has a nice big window so that will be nice! Our room is similar sized to yours and it heats up very quickly if we want it to (30-45 minutes). It’s also quite easy to maintain the heat with the sliding ash tray air control and larger logs. I think you’ll be happy with it. I think the only improvement to the stove would be more stone capacity.

Cool off outside in the cold like a man! 😆 In all seriousness finishing with the cold is the best thing. I am in the process of building a sauna as a side room to my garden room office. I intend to finish with cold plunge after every session. P.s. Fantastic job, the entire build looks great.
@JonathanKuhn9 ай бұрын
😆. Oh we take a cold plunge in the lake quite a bit and you are right there is nothing quite like it. But after the plunge in -20c you’ll find me in the change room for sure haha. That’s rad that you are building one off of your office. What are you going to use for a cold plunge?
