Saurian DevLog #30: AI Perception Improvements

The silver lining of the delayed patch was that I had the opportunity to look through some player suggestions, and re-prioritize some features based on them while waiting on some other programming progress. As a result, AI perception has been refined and upgraded.
First, visual acuity is now more refined. Larger animals will have a harder time seeing smaller animals at long distances, and smaller animals will have an easier time seeing larger animals at long distances, etc. We can also individually tailor eyesight strength by species, so that some animals are more near-sighted than others.
Second, animals now have a sense of hearing, which, like sight, can have different sensitivity depending on species and is sensitive to the weight of the sound-producing animal. The speed of an animal also influences its loudness: walking is quiet, and running is loud. This represents the foundations for stealth gameplay, as the success of an ambush is now partially dependent on how you manage your speed.
Lastly, predators have received a new nuance to their hunting behaviors. If a predator hears an animal but can't see it, or loses sight of it, that predator will search around the prey's last known spot until it either loses interest, gets distracted, or finds the prey.

Yet it is nearly 100% certain for it to have feathers as both of its ancestors and the ancestors of tyrannosaurs had feathers with physical proof. Feathers aren't a trait that disappears, then suddenly reappears. Tyrannosaurus rex also needed a cooling system which feathers provide both heating and cooling systems for an animal. It also added defense, potential threat or mating displays which would likely be favored by evolution.

Actually, feathers did not reappear. If it was 100% certain or even close to it it we would have direct evidence, it is already 100% certain that they had scales, T.rex's ancestors are quite distantly related with the 2 main ones being proceratosaurids if I am correct. About the cooling system, why would they need to cool or heat themselves? Hell Creek could get chilly but we know other animals as large or larger than Tyrannosaurus lived in the same place and time and did not poses feathers. I don't see how feathers would add defense in anyway. Mating displays or scaring something of shouldn't always be connected to feathers or some other flashy display, size and strength can easily scare of most rivals, impressing a mate could easily be done by the well known face bitting between 2 males. We already know that large animals did or could use physical combat for mating rights, this could be the case in ceratopsians, even animals today use size and strength over display at times. I should add that even RJ agrees that feathers are no longer as likely.
