As one whom has streamed Prehistoric Hunt for years on my Twitch, I have likewise voiced many of the same suggestions and the like as you have listed in this video SaurianTarget. All in all, you have done a great job in this video breakdown of PH and in what quality of life improvements the devs of the game should implement are all very sound. Too many times on my own rex hunts, I barely get a clean one hit kill via heart strike with the .50 caliber rifle and just when I think I have it locked in, then I end up hitting something else unintended. One simple nerf I'd suggest for the rex is to just plain slow them down and match up their speed to the Gigas which are in my experience a bit easier to kill with clean shots. So just making rex and giga more or less on par speed wise when in a run would go somewhat a long way for balance in my book. For bleed out hits, totally agree that if any of the big three vitals are in the red zone or been hit multiple times, that bugger should just drop dead either instantly or within a few seconds to a minute. Double if it's punctured lungs as that can kill just as fast as a ruptured heart. There should also be physical effects of an animal gets hit in vital organs or in certain body parts. Lung hits could perhaps impact stamina depending on how badly damaged they get. Overall my guy, this is a video I could use to show to my friends whenever they mention things in need of tweaks/balancing improvements etc..

Ayy I appreciate the feedback! Good to know I’m not the only one who struggles with how the rexes are implemented in the game, that’s an area I think needs some immediate improvement. Glad you found the video useful! 😎

11:14 With all due respect, I always hated WWD's portrayal of Cretaceous Hell Creek. It would have more likely resembled the Florida Everglades or a Louisiana bayou than the volcanic hellscape they went with. Hell, the jungle biome already in the game would be somewhat closer to the mark than what you proposed since it's relatively warm, lush, and humid.
@miquelescribanoivars5049Ай бұрын
It is actually closer to what Huincul (of Mapusaurus & Argentinosaurus fame) or Candaleros (where Giganotosaurus was found) Fm's would had looked like.
@Godeater13273Ай бұрын
Very true the walking with dinosaurs, hell creek has aged very poorly. Palm tree fossils are constantly being found from hell creek, I see it all the time from researchers on Twitter stating that there was likely a huge variety of different kinds of palms, but they are not preserving well because of taphonomy. There were also a ton of crocodilians and turtles thriving there, It was much warmer and more tropical than often being depicted.
@SaurianTargetАй бұрын
Maybe keep the northern “Hell Creek” part of the map as a more lush area and change the middle into something transitionary? Perhaps something more swampy and wetland-esque?

Great video on easily the best modern dinosaur hunting game I agree with the dinosaur models, the new ones are beautiful, and I can't wait for the updates to the rex and Brachio. Yeah, it's rough around the edges, but the devs love the game and actually listen to the community they actually want the game to succeed. There are so many features in Prehistoric Hunt that were implemented just because the devs listened to what we wanted. The devs even welcome help from the fans, me and some others have been helping them out with the dinosaur and weapon descriptions in game, so if there are any carnivores modders out there that would like to help with the game, please go right ahead. Prehistoric Hunt is the modern dinosaur hunting game we all wanted Dinosaur hunt to be, and I just love watching the game grow. It's come so far from where it once was, and it has all been done by just 2 real devs and help from the fans. The next update is going to be bringing some big improvements to the game new models, a new island, audio overall and engine improvements with ray tracing being brought up. The game has a discord server, so if anyone wants to join and help out with the game, all are welcome. Prehistoric Hunt also has a KZbin channel where you can check out the updates that are coming to the game, so please subscribe to that also to further help out the dev team.

Seeing how open and willing the devs have been with listening to feedback and communicating with players is such a 180 from what’s happened with the Carnivores reboots and made me really consider this might be THE modern dinosaur hunting game. For the menu they could do a jurassic the hunted style. Were dinosaur run by the screen, killing each other or roaring at the camera. The model will be changed in the future I can see a potential in the biome change like in roblox from swamp to grass land to snow. Certain dinosaurs only being available during a time of day or within a certain time period. Like abnormal dinosaur after playing like 30 mins Also marine reptiles would be great too
@Zerou46Ай бұрын
29:15 I think a solution to that would be for carnivores to enter a state of relaxation and hunting, in relaxed mode they would be more vocal (also applies to hervores) finding them or patrolling and taking short breaks, or just sleeping In hunting mode, they would take on a more aggressive attitude, and in addition to the player, they would also be able to track the dinosaurs, either from footprints, blood from unkilled or escaped dinosaurs or directly from bodies, in this state they would rarely roar, and once they hunted or found a corpse, they would eat it for a while and then move it by dragging it depending on what animal it is. If the player encounters it in relaxed mode, the Carnivore (the big ones) would take a defensive position, not trying to attack but to intimidate the player. Shooting in this state is not a good option because the carnivores would cover their vital areas with their head and not turn their backs to the player If the player runs, they will directly chase him, the same if he shoots, the best thing to do would be to walk away and not turn your back It should also be noted that they would not be as loud either, their steps would no longer make the ground shake, or at least they would not do so at less than a reasonable distance, but they would be quieter. The hervores would also have a relaxed state, where they would rest and forage a little Then there would be the foraging mode, where after resting they start eating until they are full or finish with the vegetation in the area, If the second happens, they would move somewhere else, leaving trails that carnivores and players can follow to track them. These modes would eliminate many getting too close to get a good shot which would force players to plan better shots.

A fantastic overview for Prehistoric Hunt and a great in-depth dive to the details of the game and where it both succeeds and needs more polish. Prehistoric Hunt right now is a bit rougher on its edge and gameplay, but, the foundations there right now are pretty solid. I do hope we see a focus first on trying to enhance the gameplay more than new content being added as though new things are always fun to see and try out, the gameplay is what will make playing always more enticing and draw players back to it. If the weapons get their touches you have suggested too, the dinosaurs gain more idle behaviors and animations to make it not jogging to always catch up to them, and the impact of vital hits increases we could easily see Prehistoric Hunt getting closer and closer to the ideal modern dinosaur hunting game many are waiting and hoping for.

Definitely agree on many/most of the points! I've got nearly 200 hrs of playtime logged. Been trying really hard to get a Diamond Thalassodromeus - a royal pain in the @$$ to try and get one still! And I just need a diamond Thalasso to get that Diamond score achievement! I've checked off the skin varieties for, and mostly need just 1 more rarest skin for a handful of species. Pretty much the only species I don't have any piebald, melanistic or albinos for are the Spinosaurus and Thalassos. I definitely want more naturalistic behaviors and variety in animations for the animals; ie pounce and claw attacks from the Utahraptors, or stomp and tail attacks from the Brachiosaurus and other sauropods they might add. I think they should have definitive male and female skins, and funny enough the "Rare" skins for Triceratops, Gallimimus and Pteranodon could work really well for male animals, and the "Rares" for Utahraptor, Compy and Pachy could work for female skins. I'm hoping that the T. rex we see on the loading screen will ultimately be the replacement model for the in game rex (or maybe something even better?). As for additional carnivore behaviors, aside from the carnivores no longer being "Terminators" that'll kill any & everything on sight, I'd like to see more interactions with their carcasses. Like having longer feeding animations that play until a carnivore's stomach is full, and it may wonder off. Also maybe give a carcass a food value percentage, which could also attract other carnivores into an area to scavenge from it. Like if you're hunting Compies, you could simply find a kill by another animal, hunker down and wait ( or use their call whistle to help bring them over). I'd love to see some brand new skins for Spinosaurus (especially sexual dimorphism) with actual display patterns on the sails themselves. As for carnivore (apex) confrontations, I think we could use some load bellowing that proceeds the physical confrontation, where maybe a smaller/weaker carnivore may actually back down rather than the two automatically charging in and trying to face tank one another. And absolutely the Brachy, Trike and Anky definitely need massive 'armor"/defense buffs against carnivore attacks, or the apexes should be nerfed themselves in their health and defense stats. And give the dangerous herbivores a chance to win battles. Carnotaurus should only be half its current size at the most. And I would like for Carno to have some more varieties in its pattern, than either the current base skin or the current "rare" skin. As for the base map, there is a slight biome different in that the southeastern region (east of the warehouse) is predominantly a giant sequoia forest, which is a nice break from the generic jungle that covers most of the map.
@SaurianTargetАй бұрын
Really like your behavioral suggestions. The idea of carnivores having longer eating animations is a great one, especially if you could use downed dinosaurs as bait to lure in predators to take them out while they eat. Maybe predators could lie down to rest after they eat, which would give us time to set up a good shot?

About the Rex, once you level up to the big guns, the .700 & the .50 Cal, you can take a Rex down pretty easily, provided you get clean shots. And those gunshots pierce the silence 👌

I think the gripes you had with the inter-dino interactions could be addressed if this game implemented a system similar to the turf wars from Monster Hunter World. Also, I think giving some dinos unique movements and damage reduction areas that make sense with the creature's biology would improve their gameplay. Triceratops: Relatively fast with small turn radius + reduced damage to head Pachy: Very fast, small turn radius and reduced damage to head Ankylosaurus: Extremely slow movement speed, large turn radius, reduced damage if shot from above Carnotaurus: Extremely fast, but has extremely large turn radius Gallimimus: Extremely fast, moderate turn radius but low health

What an incredible video, Saurian! As I said in the comment, the Carnivores community has a lot to contribute to Prehistoric Hunt. The developers have already done absolutely everything we ever wanted, we just need to polish it up and any help is welcome. I hope our Carnivores community really embraces Prehistoric Hunt, because it is the future of modeling. I believe that what is really missing is just a naturalistic look for this game to be perfect, the base is very well done, we can't complain about that. Once they perfect the artificial intelligence of the dinosaurs and their senses along with the animations, it will become completely majestic. Opening up the map design to be free was incredible, there are fans who are literally recreating the entire Nublar Island. I can't wait for multiplayer hunting together.

After playing for almost a year,Having made 3 maps of the Workshop and watching the full video I have things to say 1- Regarding performance, it's going really bad for me, I have the minimum requirements minus the graphics card,So I think the Devs could put other graphics options, for example one similar to what The Hunter: Primal or CDH had 2- About the size of the Dinosaurs, It is something that I have already commented on, many are either exaggeratedly large or too small or proportionally they are 3- about the designs hmn I have been researching things,In Ankylosaurus it is another unity asset although I don't see the need to change it,The triceratops is the unity model with tweaks which for me could be improved,The Iguanodon could use some improvements to the overall model, it's good but I don't think it reflects the animal well, the Carnotaurus along with the T-rex are probably the ones that need a model most "urgently" the Giganotosaurus is not on this list but I feel that it should be changed at some point like Spinosaurus and Brachiosaurus 4- I also have personal opinions about variety, but at least I would have liked to see the new dinosaurs on the old map, or at least I hope that the new map also includes the old dinosaurs 5- about behavior, due to AI and sizes, for example the Carnotaurus is able to kill large herbivores except the Brachiosaurus,or the case of the compsognatus that you can't hunt absolutely anything because there is nothing of its size, or the Mosasaurus that also has nothing to hunt This is also where the Utahraptor comes in, which is not really capable of reaching the Gallimimus but at least kills the sleeping Pteranodons, although none of them really eat Suggestions: A somewhat controversial suggestion but here it goes, since the game takes place in the modern era and not in prehistory or an alien planet, there could be animals "normal" like maybe rabbits, wild boars, goats or even something a little bigger, this could help, for example, to track carnivores by the carcasses of those animals they hunted or by directly eating them About the models, I really think they could stick to a style, they don't have to be strictly scientifically correct, something like what you said, that they look realistic but also stylized. About the Workshop maps, well there is the problem that the game is 3 times more lagged there, and that there really is no way to modify the map on a large scale, which is sometimes extremely difficult + Add that there are not enough plant assets or that they are not all in the editor About AI I really don't have much to say, but they could for example make intimidation animations, there are for example only with the Triceratops, the others as soon as you get close to them they just make a sound and go straight to wanting to kill you And some things like maybe more marine reptiles to have more variety And to be able to see the mosasaurus a little more often without necessarily having to put yourself in danger.

It's nice to see another dinosaur Hunting game that shows potential and the 3 major biomes is a good idea as it add to it being a statuary. But I think Thalassodromeus should be an inland flyer that prey on small animals like its real life counterpart that acts as a glass Cannon, can dur modern damage but is very flimsy and can't take a hit. And for a t-rex redesign I think it should be based on saurian Tyrannosaurus or Fred the Dinosaurman 90s/Modern take on the Tyrannosaurus and for a variant could be a feathered Rex as a rare creature to hunt.

I feel like the arid area should be cut in half to incorporate a swamp, several creatures currently and upcoming would be able to inhabit this and could be a good hunting ground for the likes of Spinosaurus, Iguanodon, Brachiosaurus, etc to spread them down a little bit more and to narrow it down for new players who would like to tackle larger game

hey Saurian!! I hope you're doing good. great review, i had been eagerly waiting for it for quite a while!! I was very curious to hear your thoughts about the game because, unfortunately, i'm one of the very few people among longtime carnivores fans who just do not enjoy the game at all. I REALLY want to like it, i respect the heck out of the project and have put 20+ hours into it, but i find the gameplay to be so slow and hard that every time i just end up giving it another go for a few hours and then uninstalling it. Traversal, gunplay and the whole gameplay loop just feel so frustrating and unrewarding to me, and i know it's ultimately "my fault" for sucking at the game, but I personally think it badly needs 1) either a difficulty slider or the possibility to tweak dino health / weapon damage output and 2) some kind of vehicles, both things I don't think they'll ever consider adding since it is mostly a multyplayer-oriented game (and i only care about single player). Like I said i really want to like this game, but so far it just hasn't clicked with me gameplay-wise, at all.. And while most other things about PH are either very good or very promising, i'm kinda old school so gameplay is what i really care about. On a (very unnecessary) side note... have you ever heard anything again from digital dreams? I know it's basically a joke at this point but i've actually tried reaching out to them a couple of times this year through their website and have never received anything back. Which sucks. I know i gotta let it go but i'm still mad at how things went south for carnivores again.
@SaurianTargetАй бұрын
I mean, that’s fair! It sounds like you’ve given it enough of a shot and it just doesn’t click with you, which is fine! I wanna say they are considering vehicles as a future addition, though, so maybe don’t write that one out just yet! As far as Digital Dreams goes, I’ve heard nothing from them since the last update. Dinosaur Hunt is definitely dead and not coming back, so I doubt we’ll be hearing from them again

@@SaurianTarget hey Saurian, thanks for the reply! I'll keep checking out devlogs and such to keep an eye on the updates, eventually I'm sure I'll give the game another go. Another major problem with Prehistoric Hunt that I find annoying is that the weapons are way too overpriced, yet very small cash prizes for the dinosaurs. Pretty much all the dinosaurs only give you less than 100 credits when you kill them. However, the weapons are insanely expensive (the .700 Nitro and the .50 Caliber are 7,000 and 8,000 credits respectively). The prices for the weapons should be greatly reduced, and the cash rewards for the dinosaurs should be increased.
@SaurianTargetАй бұрын
Agreed, it’s a pretty insane grind trying to earn enough to even just own the weapons. The 700 and 50 cal could each be 5,000 and I feel that’s still expensive but more realistic when it comes to earning points
@AnimalsVehiclesAndMoreАй бұрын
@@SaurianTarget I think the .700 should be 2,000 credits, and the .50 caliber should be 3,000 credits.

Can you toggle all the HUD icons for things like tracks? Pretty visually distracting and personally I'd find it immersion breaking. Ye Olde Trophy Hunter 2003 had a great tracking system where you had to visually look for footprints and blood spots, and even the occasional droppings.

You can toggle the HUD on and off but I don’t think it gets rid of the tracks. I have to wait for them to cycle off before getting screenshots lol

@Morrison-saber-tooth animals do not spend 5+ hours sitting at a lake and drinking. Most animals will spend, at most, just a few minutes taking a drink before heading back into the woods. If you want a true hunting experience, you wanna play thehunter classic.

28:08 The Hunter Primal T. rex actually is actually an extremelly poor example of making shot placement unrewarding. If there are few things that make you feel better than getting the one perfect on a charging predator is having to do it twice (that's all it takes with any weapon, so long as you hit the heart both times). Some of my most chilling gaming experience are pulling that out, specially if a rex managed to sneak on me during a storm. Alternatively you can brute force them with lung shots with the 700 Nitro or .50, 5 or 6 six should to the trick and if you don't shoot it past that you still get 100% integrity. The Primal Queen however has no excuse, its basically a MP mob boss, but the game died quickly after that last (or second to last, idk?) update and you can only really solo here by using exploits.
@SaurianTargetАй бұрын
That’s kind of my whole point tho, because 6 lung shots with a .50 cal doesn’t even sound like we’re playing a hunting game anymore lol
@miquelescribanoivars5049Ай бұрын
@@SaurianTarget Given the speed at which the rex moved in Primal, make it any less tanky would make it very easy IMO. Its not like in Carnivores were the moment it notices you it does a a V-line super fast in your direction.
@SaurianTargetАй бұрын
It wouldn’t even really need to be less tanky, necessarily, if you’re shooting it in the ribs or legs or head, it can withstand a lot, I’m sure. Just make sure that if it’s hit in the heart it drops. Even Carnivores gave the rex an idle and roar animation before it charges to give players a chance to hit its weak zone and drop it.
