Sauron's eyes tell it all. You can see the faintest of polite smiles fade when he is refused. After this scene, none of Durin's blood would have worn the Ring. The only way this scene plays according to the lore is if the king takes it off. "It does not rule me, boy. It is just a tool that will make us rich beyond DREAMS," King Durin told his son holding out the Ring. He gazed at it. Whatever Annatar had meant for it to do, the Ring WAS just a tool. Plus Mithril was plentiful enough for the Dwarves of Erebor an age later to have enough to make a shirt for an Elven princeling sure to outgrow it in a few decades.

A maia like Sauron can probably sense presence of another maia. I bet he sensed the balrog's presence in the air and realized that the dwarves are screwed either way and he can move on. Barad-dûr is Sauron's tower in Mordor, he builds that later in the book timeline. Looks like he saw a vision of the Balrog/Durin's Bane in the flames and we know what happens to Moria/Khazad-dûm, I don't think he's summoning or working with it but just seeing a vision. Sauron was Melkor/Morgoth's chief lieutenant, and the Balrogs served Morgoth too, it's kinda similar to how Smaug and Sauron didn't "work together", but their end goals and actions are pretty aligned
@YourEmperorStef
@YourEmperorStef 21 күн бұрын
@@Altherot Actually no. It's entirely done for visuals here, which I've got no clue why - the great part about Sauron's failed plan with the Dwarven Rings was that he got screwed and was basically causing firestorms and rage in his fortress that the dwarves didn't get corrupted and got stronger, albeit corrupted. I'd go as far as to even say that he lost some of his power since, like The One Ring, he put corruption inside the rings. Fast forward a bit, the Dwarves dug too deep and discovered 'Here's Johnny' who singlehandedly destroyed most of them, at least the strongest force. The orcs and trolls then finished the rest; part of these orcs and trolls were Sauron's so they naturally reported back to him that something funny went there. *AGAIN: Sauron didn't even know about the Balrog prior to the fall of Moria*, it took him ages to even discover it was a Balrog as he kept sending orcs, trolls and commanding forces there that reported back to him. And even if he knew, the Balrogs are at the same level of him, they'll probably refuse to follow him, maybe they would since he was openly known as Morgott's Right Hand. But they are too wild and unpredictable, maybe he didn't have the same control over them. So Sauron just let the Balrog party in Moria.

One of my favorite things from the Silmarillion was the fact that the Rings of Power practically all failed at their jobs(I mean, some of the stuff from Jackson's sorta makes me question if its the same, but still). The Elves sensed Sauron making the One Ring and hid the Three, the Men easily fell thanks to the Nine and became the Ringwraiths, but the Dwarves being too stubborn to be controlled(with the major problem being an increased greed)was one of my favorite bits of Tolkien's mythos. Still upset they didn't include the bits about the dwarf rings in the theatrical cut of "The Hobbit"films.

I'm sorry but this is a very common complaint about RoP and Star Wars and the Hobbit and, well, every superhero movie, Harry Potter spin-off etc etc etc... A new and original movie builds a new world that we know nothing about. THAT is the exciting bit. The elves weren't exciting because they were portrayed that way, they were exciting because we knew sweet fanny about them. Superman was exciting because we did not know the limits of his powers. Batman had gadgets, Isla Numblar had dinosaurs, we did not know what to expect. Most of those mysteries were major plot points and therefor were solved during the first movie. You cannot be mysterious about the powers of elves and then not show what those powers are. Superman has to do something intensely powerful, Dino's must eat people, Neo must defeat Agent Smith. If you then make a second movie in that same world you cannot pretend that those same mysteries still exist. The dino's are still dino's and they are still hungry. Superman is still pretty super like last time and Jack Sparrow is still just a guy who is always drunk and fighting the English military. What you are talking about, if anything, is inconsistent world building. Your major complaint, as far as it even has anything to do with RoP (it's the algorithm, I get it, clickbait works), is the same as every other complaint about RoP: it's not LOTR. The starwares sequels sucked because of this, The matrix sequels sucked because of this, the list is very long. There are exceptions ofcourse, like Terminator II where they changed everything up (and somehow also changed nothing) by making the terminator the good guy and introducting a new terminator that, get this: we knew nothing about. we knew what Arnie could do, but the T-1000 was a completely new threat and we were shown bits of his powers every now and then. Scary stuff. But by the end we knew everything about the T-1000 so if they added that in a new movie it would be boring as F. I'm spending way too much time on this, but you spent way too much time on your essay (and yet, not enough) so there.

Awesome video, Red Line Flicks. I loved the intense dialogue and how the stakes are rising in Middle Earth! With the threat of invasion looming and the need for the remaining rings of power, how do you think this will impact the alliances among different factions? Eager to see more of your analysis! Keep up the great work.

the ring should not have corrupted Durin in the first place because the dwarves were to stubborn to be corrupted by Sauron
@malchalati
@malchalati 15 күн бұрын
It didn’t corrupt him. It made him greedy. This is explained in the openings of both trilogies. Dwarves mined into the earth. Carrying nothing about the world outside. And in hobbit opening, King Thrain became so obsessed with gold he attracted a dragon to his home. But at that time, Sauron had slowly begun to resurface. His powers were but a fraction of what he carried at this time. So his influence wasn’t as potent during the time of the hobbit.

@BobBob-us5fm yeah and sauron has hawk eyes, too. He can see a orc army on eregion doorstep. But lookout elves can't and never investigate why smoke rises from the forest. Lol Again, use your imagination on that aswell. These writers are top tier at what they do.

But the ring shouldn't be working on him.... the dwarves are supposed to be hardier than that. And while wholly unconfirmed, I remain dubious that any of the other, lesser, rings would've proven that powerful anyway. Maybe the One, into which Sauron poured his malice and spirit.

T.R.O.P. is S.H.I.T.E! There has always been an unsophisticated audience for badly written, badly acted and badly directed shows.....like this one. Dressing it up with false praise because you can't tell the difference between genius (Tolkien) and garbage (T.R.O.P.) is like putting lipstick on a pig. It may be a slight improvement but at the end of the day it's still a pig. lol
