While all Valar and Maiar (Ainur) are of Ilúvatar/Eru, the Ainur 'praising' to him did not count themselves alone or above his works (firstly, being their own 'part' in the themes). So Sauron here telling us with all the swagger in the world that he's older/solitary than the music that formed all others together, by a theme conducted by and in praise of Ilúvatar, is rather braggadocio and is obviously a moment that would make ol' Melkor chuffed at the imitation.

Assuming they are keeping this much of the books true in the context of the show, he probably did put himself on that ship.

Eventually Middle Earth was formed and the deities created the things in it, rivers and oceans, trees, the ground, the animals, and the different peoples too, the Elves, Dwarves, Men, etc Melkor hated it, and wanted to rule it or destroy it. He had a right-hand man, who helped to corrupt the peoples of Middle Earth. That was Sauron. In terms of power, he's maybe similar to the wizards such as Gandalf and Saruman. Eventually Melkor was defeated, but Sauron remained.
