@ohauss7 жыл бұрын
I profoundly dislike the form in the opening sequence. It is more befitting Morgoth and reduces the defeat of Sauron to a lucky strike rather than the joint struggle of the leaders of the free people.
@ErraticFaith6 жыл бұрын
His physical form represents his true self, who he was created to be. The eye idea is a diminishing effect to make it more realistic for viewing. Otherwise he'd just be on the battlefield back to back with the witchking. Which is more than any of his opponents could have dealt with. If anything its the other way around since Morgoth was huge magnitudes of power greater than Sauron and would have made more sense as a spiritual or godlike foe. Sauron was barely a footnote of effort, compared to Melkor. The lucky 'strike' is again, realism. That and a mix of trying to enforce the idea of clinching victory from almost certain defeat. As with Melkor, Sauron was blinded by his own ego. Which produced a lack of focus and incompetence in battle. Tolkien knew the reality of warfare well, the movie simply tries to convey it in visual form. Its perfect as it is in my opinion, although featuring more of the physical element to Sauron and his breathren would be apt for a telling of the Silmarillion. Alas its too long and awkwardly structured. That and they have been denied rights by the family. Oh well. Treasure what you have already. Its one of a kind.

Rainfeather : Melkor was ORIGINALLY exponentially more powerful than Sauron. But Melkor expended most of his strength on creating monstrous life forms like the dragons and trolls. Creating life is the most difficult and draining thing a Valar can do. It cost so much power that Melkor was permanently weakened, and became less powerful than the spirits of the Sun and Moon. Especially Arien, the spirit of fire that was the Sun. But even badly weakened, Morgoth was still far more powerful than Sauron, who feared his wrath.

Lord Voldemort i like to speculate sarumans corruption began when he had went west with the two blue istari seeing as tgere culture revolved around worshiping sauron and saruman was the only one to return from ruin as well as he never mentioned what happened to them. But i also like to believe tolkien left some things out in hos writing for the readers to have there own room for smaller personal stories on those matters because any one legend can be told a thousand different ways it wouldnt mean all of them are untrue to what could have been the possible tale
@MrEddo896 жыл бұрын
I enjoy that portrayal more. Especially when the beginning of the movie, Sauron's physical form with the One Ring was able to be defeated. If he only had a physical form after, his threat isn't as menacing as the viewer can just go, "just go into open combat again and the same could happen". By making his spirit/eye alive and the threat, the urgency of Frodo's journey is more evident. And the idea that he is always "watching" made the journey more thrilling to watch. You need that visual representations in film, in lieu of a backstory/more detail a book can give. The Eye both made him a threat and invincible to the viewer.

Just a point of issue I have at the end, and Im not saying im right, just making an observation. Sauron was correct that nobody would have the will to destroy the ring. Frodo often gets credit with doing so but I point out that in the end he failed to resist and tried to claim the ring for his own. It was golum's intervention that prevented him escaping with the ring, and then golum dies accidentally, also not meaning to destroy the ring. So, at no point does anyone have the will to destroy it, frodo should only get credit with resisting for as long as he did, which is admirable. Anyway, just an observation! Great video!

Interesting detail: Sauron did regret his past choices when he saw the might of Valinor in the War of Wrath. Tolkien said that this regret was real (even if inspired by fear). However, when Eonwë told him to come to Valinor to be judged, it was too much a humiliation for his pride, and he left them and went to East. There it seemed to him that Middle-Earth, especially the east and the south, were neglected by the Valar, and needed him to arrange them and bring order and wealth to the peoples there. So he begun his projects there and, well, his hand slipped a bit, and after a few millenia he was the god-king of the world, titled the Lord of the Earth and the King of Men. This motive - order and prosperity - had been both his original virtue and the cause of his fall to evil. Because Sauron always thought that the best way to bring these things was through power. Therefore Sauron was attracted to Melkor's power, graviating to his corrupting presence. And later on he assumed the role of a tyrant himself.
@Hirungolwe7 жыл бұрын
Here is the Silmarilion quote (chapter 24): When Thangorodrim was broken and Morgoth overthrown, Sauron put on his fair hue again and did obeisance to E?nw? the herald of Manw?, and abjured all his evil deeds. And some hold that this was not at first falsely done, but that Sauron in truth repented, if only out of fear, being dismayed by the fall of Morgoth and the great wrath of the Lords of the West. But it was not within the power of E?nw? to pardon those of his own order, and he commanded Sauron to return to Aman and there receive the judgement of Manw?. Then Sauron was ashamed, and he was unwilling to return in humiliation and to receive from the Valar a sentence, it might be, of long servitude in proof of his good faith; for under Morgoth his power had been great. Therefore when E?nw? departed he hid himself in Middle-earth; and he fell back into evil, for the bonds that Morgoth bad laid upon him were very strong.

I believe, if Tolkien wrote out more of the stories of the Silmarillion and we get even more details and depth to the charakter many more people would think so. @@Kingofthehill674 I'm pretty sure he had both in the book. A physical form and the flame eye, whither it be a conjuration or an extension of himself the book describes something similar to that in the movie. The return of the king, book 6, Mount Doom; "So foot by foot, like small grey insects, they crept up the slope. They came to the path and found that it was broad, paved with broken rubble and beaten ash. Frodo clambered on to it, and then moved as if by some compulsion he turned slowly to face the East. Far off the shadows of Sauron hung; but torn by some gust of wind out of the world, or else moved by some great disquiet within, the mantling clouds swirled, and for a moment drew aside; and then he saw, rising black, blacker and darker than the vast shades amid which it stood, the cruel pinnacles and iron crown of the topmost tower of Barad-dûr. One moment only it stared out, but as from some great window immeasurably high there stabbed northward a flame of red, the flicker of a piercing Eye; and then the shadows were furled again and the terrible vision was removed. The Eye was not turned to them: it was gazing north to where the Captains of the West stood at bay, and thither all its malice was now bent, as the Power moved to strike its deadly blow; but Frodo at that dreadful glimpse fell as one stricken mortally. His hand sought the chain about his neck."

+ TrazorMC Yes sir, My favorite work of all of Tolkien`s incredible and vast creative wonders. The Silmarillion was like my Bible as a younger man, teenager really. This guys Vids are great,but he mispronounces so many names and places ,it makes me cringe. He has obviously not read the notes and all the rest of the appendices of "The Lord....." and The Silmarillion. I would have liked to have had more of Tolkien`s recorded interview`s around for us to hear today. Sadly we have very little of him reading from his own pages. What we DO have,to me, is a thrill to hear! Especially the excitement in his voice as he reads Elvish tongues.

That's very easy to refute. Stoker's Dracula also wanted to rule the world through his network of henchmen, and the book is older than Tolkien. Robert E. Howard's sagas are full of conquering tyrants, then there is Dr. FuManChu from 1911 or so , and the whole genre of 19th century of "bloody pulp fiction", or "pulp horror stories", cheap, pulp books printed en-masse that were full of dramatic, violent, badly written stories (obsoleted by B-movies when cinema started to be a thing), and those were full of struggle between the Jesuits and the Freemasons, two all-powerful, secretive secret organizations bent on controlling the world. And you must not forget the Illuminati that came even before that, and the Templars.... No, Tolkien certainly did not start it.

Mortality is supposed to give men the ability to cause change. Elves, also created in the image of the first god, were immortal and therefore unable to change, forever wishing things to stay the way the are (this, incidentally, led to the creation of the 20 rings). Men, who are encouraged to make the most of what they have, see the flaws in the world and, for better or worse, are the ones to alter the course of history.

Frodo could carry The Ring since The Shire until Mount Doom, only then he fell to the corruptiom, any other person carrying the Ring would have fallen Way before, as we have seem in their Journey, Gandalf did'int even wanted to Touch it, Aragorn had to fight the Desire, Boromir fell before even touching it, even Galadriel almost Fallen to the Corruptiom, as Faramir too, did'int even let me start with Smeagle, even Sam almost fell to the Corruptiom when he carried The One Ring, he even says that he can not carry It for him, but he can carry him (Frodo) Frodo is The "Strongest" against The One Ring Corruptiom, but even him fell to the Corruptiom

@Kravenrogue2 жыл бұрын
@@PeePeeMilk I think its because The One Ring always search for Powerfull ones to corrupt, and Frodo at that moment was next to Gandalf, maybe the ring was focusing on corrupt Gandalf, and that made Frodo almost immune to the "Calling" In every moment Frodo was always close to some one, that maybe the One Ring saw as a more Powerfull person or a more likely person to be Corrupt, for example Frodo offers the Ring to Gandalf, to Aragorn, to Galadriel, to Boromir even, Frodo is always offering The One Ring to other person, maybe the Ring is always trying to go to a more Powerfull Person or more corrupt, I would say that Frodo's lack of skill or Power made him "Powerfull" against The One Ring corruptiom But in The End, even Frodo end up corrupted at Mount Doom, that show that no one is really immune to The One Ring corruptiom

The world is changed..I feel it in the water...i feel it in the earth...i smell it in the air Much that once was is lost...for none now live to remember it... _title:LOTR_ It began with the forging of the Great Rings...3 were given to the Elves...Immortal,wisest and fairest of all beings.. 7 to the Dwarf-lord, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls... And 9 rings were gifted to the race of Men...who above all else, desire power... For within these rings was bound the strength and will to govern each race... But they were all of them deceived...For another ring was made.. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom...the dark Lord Sauron forged in secret a Master Ring to control all others.. And into this Ring he poured his cruelty, his malice and his will to dominate all life.. One Ring to rule them all...One by one, the Free Lands of Middle-earth fell to the power of the Ring.. But there were some who resisted...A Last Alliance of Men and Elves marched against the armies of Mordor... And on the slopes of Mout Doom, they fought for the freedom of Middle-earth... _Elves: Hold positions, fire the arrows!.._ Victory was near...But the Power of the Ring could not be undone.. It was in this moment when all hope has faded that Isildur, son of the king, took up his father's sward.. _Isildur scene:Finger cut with the Ring of Power_ Sauron, the enemy of the Free Peoples of Middle-earth, was defeated.. The Ring passed to Isildur who had this one chance to destroy evil forever...But the hearts of Men are easily corrupted... And the Ring of Power has a will of its own...It betrayed Isildur to his death.. And some things that should not have been forgotton were lost..History became legend..legend became myth..and for 2500 years.. The Ring passed out of all knowledge..Until when chance came...it ensnared a new bearer... _Gollum:my precious_ The Ring came to the creature Gollum who took it deep into the tunnels of the Misty Mountains and there IT consumed him.. _Gollum: IT came to me..my own, my love, my own...my precious_ The Ring brought to Gollum unnatural long life and for 500 years IT poisoned his mind.. And in the gloom of Gollum's cave, IT waited..Darkness crept back into the forests of the world..Rumor grew of a shadow in the East.. Whispers of a nameless fear...and the Ring of Power perceived ITs time had now come...IT abandoned Gollum.. But something happened then the Ring did not intend..IT was picked up by the most unlikely creature imaginable...A Hobbit Bilbo Baggins of the Shire...For the time will soon come when Hobbits will shape the fortunes of all..

The elves that went to Valinor and remained there were "outside the circles of the world," in the summer-lands of the Valar -- this is basically the Faerie Realm, a parallel dimension rather than a place in space. The ones who remained in or returned to Middle-Earth (literally "Midguard" in norse mythology) were still in the mortal world, so these elves were "under the skies" of normal reality. Sauron had no way to affect the Faerie Realm (because badass Valar gods and ancient elves ruled there, way over his level), so he was trying to use the rings of power to corrupt the few elven leaders who were still in Middle-Earth.
