I've had a Savage 340 for years. It's a classic that can't be improved on and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I had one of these, sold it...regretted it, found another and LOVE IT... I am now loading ammo for it. It's great to be able to load pointed bullets for 30-30 and get great results. I use a B Square mount for the scope. It sits over top a little high but I can still use the iron sites too GREAT OLE GUN

My father used his 325c (Stevens) for everything from rabbits, to bear, and it never failed him once. Same gun, different tag. I got my first deer with the same gun.

I really enjoyed watching you shoot that rifle. It would be great if someone could make a top mount for those rifles.
@jackwhite45787 жыл бұрын
I have that exact rifle. I didn’t even want it but took for money owed to me. It became my favorite rifle to shoot and hunt with. Have many other rifles but it just is so easy to shoot and go on target. You can reload full metal jacketed bullets for it since it has a clip magazine. It’s a great truck gun to carry. Will take care of just about any problem you have.

You are so lucky ! I'm crying real hard now cause I don't got one like yours 😢 hopefully you'll have a ton Of fun with it, and if you use a 130 grain Hollow point for chucks ,would be interesting , to see the results. I know 3031 is a dirty powder but , I use it anyways , 28.1 grains is not bad , as a minimum load , for a short barrel , my long gun winch 94 handles it well.

I live scout rifles, brush guns, or whatever term people like to use. Something about that short stout look of a carbine just says American Badass LOL HAHAHA!! I’m def. partial to the. Because my first deer rifle was a 1955 Winchester Model 94 handed down to me when I was 9 from my great grandfather who had killed atleast 100 deer with that gun alone and countless amounts varmint. It was always in the truck that we used as our field truck on the farm. In southeastern Pennsylvania it a lot of thick underbrush in wooded areas and rolling hills and fields, hollars, and in our case rolling orchard farm so that 30-30 was the gun of choice around here even though he had everything from Mausers, to Rem700 .30-06, 7mmRemMag, 270, 375 H&H, Springfields -06, Mosins, K-31 Swiss, Really too many to name and by the grace of God were all handed down to me but I just like him always finding myself reaching for the trusted Model94! So I guess my point is I live that feel and round and now discovering this Model 340, a bolt gun that shoots 30-30 I need one. The search starts today. Thank you for sharing this video! It really brought back so many good family memories from the years going afield.

I'm looking at the williams sight for my 340 savage 1951. It currently has an old redfield scope on it and the bolt slaps it as I sling brass. Very accurate at 125yards but I want that scope gone. Great video. Thanks

Wow i didnt know there was a bolt action for a 3030,,, i assumed it was strictly a lever action bulllet,,, hahaha but man that rifle looks badass!!
@jmartin90598 жыл бұрын
With 170 grain loads you might get some amazing accuracy. And with spitzer bullets such as Hornady LeverEvolution offers in factory ammo... it is flatter shooting than you might expect. My old Speer handloaders manual shows spitzer soft point bullet loads for tat rifle.
@ChuckinTV8 жыл бұрын
I've actually been hand loading using leverEvolution. Compared with A4064 I've gained 300fps with Hornady 150gr RN bullets. I haven't tried spitzers yet. I'm sticking with the RN for now because I want to see the terminal performance difference RN and spitzer bullets. The gun itself is as accurate as I can hold it. I really wouldn't press a shot past 100yd, just due to my ability with it and the size of the front sight.

My dad bought used in1961 or 1962 at the grocery store, yes a grocery store a used savage model 340 30/30 . Dad is long gone but I inherited the rifle 28 years ago and never fired it! It’s been in the closet all these years. After seeing your video which is very nice I’m going to take it to a gunsmith I know who does quality work and have the barrel all re-blued and the minor nicks and blemishes in the wooden stock redone to new condition! It’s past time to shoot that 30/30 carbine and destroy some 1 gallon milk jugs filled with dyed water! Thanks for the great video! P.S Where is the serial number I’ve looked high and low and can’t find one?
@ChuckinTV4 жыл бұрын
Yours doesn't have a serial number because it is old enough to not have one. Enjoy it. I still like to take mine out every now and then.

If you want to know the date it was manufactured, there is a very small date code in an oval stamped on the barrel.
@thomassullivan12074 жыл бұрын
Stevens/Savage had a date stamp system. There is a stamp at the base of the barrel or on the receiver, usually 2 numbers followed by a letter. That is the date code. The letter indicates the year. A=1949, B=1950, etc. My Model 340C has a stamp 32S, meaning it was made in 1968. I believe the number is the week of manufacture. Hope that helps.

@AlleghenyMountainLiving8 жыл бұрын
Thats at least a 1968 since it has the serial numbers. Prior to the firearms act of 1968, Savage didn't number them. My 340 and 325 C have no numbers. The 340 is an early 50s model, and the 325 is a 1948 model. The 325 was made prior to the 340, but only produced for 3 years.
