I wanted one for a while but you couldn't find ammo, once I could find the ammo finding the rifles was hard. I lucked into finding this one, it is a great round I would recommend getting one.

I desire one with a laminated thumbhole stock. Stainless preferably. I have a 22LR in one and it's a great shooting rimfire.

I would love a stainless version, but I got mine at Walmart so they get the cheapest, the stock is nicer than I would expected at Walmart. I like Savage rifles they are so accurate. Thanks for commenting.

I don't get why Savage is using that stock it seems like it would be more suited for a rifle setup with open sights not one meant to have a scope on it just can't get a good sight picture with the cheek rest being so low.

Yeah I don't know, it is fine for me but I don't really use the stock for a cheek rest, it hits my shooting muffs and that drives me crazy so I keep my head up. The size of the scope makes a difference for the position, I like the 50mm diameter scopes and they sit higher. Thanks for the comments.

It works perfectly for me, but I'm not using something fru-fru for a scope. I'm using a Hawke Vantage 3 X 9 40mm objective in Weaver U.S.A. strap-style mounts, using the lowest ones providing minimal clearance between the objective lens and barrel. If the comb was much higher, getting the bolt out for cleaning would be a b****. That's probably why it is stocked the way it is. The synthetic stock models are even worse on the comb height score. They've got even lower combs than the "GV" models have, or did when I bought my 93R17 GV 13 months ago.
