@@savagelevers1094 My 250- 3000 was made in 1923 . It has the letters SP inside an oval on the barrel beside the front sight . Do you have any info about its meaning ? Thanks.

@@zombokiler4462, the SP stands for "Savage Proofed" - meaning it was proof fired at the factory. Starts showing up late 1920 on the barrel.

@@zombokiler4462, oh no.. definitely don't use 22-250 in a 250-3000 chamber. The 22-250 is based on the 250-3000, but bad things happen when you try to shoot the wrong cartridge out of a gun. The 22-250 is a 22 caliber bullet rather than a 25 caliber like the 250-3000, and so when you shoot one the case may not seal properly and you could get gas back into the gun. Bad times. Maybe really bad times.. know a guy that ended up with brass in his eyeball from doing something similar. Still makes me cringe. It'd also be inaccurate as heck due to being an undersized bullet, and the 22-250 is a much higher pressure cartridge. Just use 250-3000 or 250 Savage ammunition (250 Savage is the same thing, they just renamed it later on).

I have a Savage 99 in 300 Savage as well. Built in 1930 according to the serial number. Was my great-grandfather's and grandfather's deer rifle in Michigan. Hasn't been fired in at least 30 years. Not necessarily looking to sell it, but would really love to figure out what it's worth!

My serial number is 5691. When I check on your serial number finder, mine would be the 2535. The earliest one on your serial number finder is 3556

Not sure what you mean by "mine would be the 2535"? A serial number of 5691 indicates a model 1895, probably delivered from Marlin to Savage in 1896. They were all in 303 Savage, and serial numbers ran from about 3150 to 8200. Does this help?

@@lcjohn51, that's a mystery we haven't solved yet. We believe the contract with Marlin was for 5,000 rifles, with an option for 10,000. Marlin started deliveries with serial number 5000. Why didn't they do 5000 to 10000? Why did they start going backwards down to 3156 after getting to 8000? Why didn't they do 10,000 rifles? Someday we may find an answer.

That should be 2135 . It’s also a 1895B.
