Take it to a gun smith who can chuck it in a lathe. They should be able to push your threading back some and give you the clearance you need. The company you got the barrel from should offer various recoil lugs and barrel nuts that can accommodate. Regardless the cost should be about the same and come in around $100 either way

Problem is your doing. You have the wrong wrench. You need the Impulse wrench. Where you surprised by the barrel extension also? The bolt indexes on the barrel nut not the barrel. It seems barrel maker didn't copy the OEM barrel and thread enough. Is that a Savage Lug? I dont think it is as the stock lug is .190. Get one from Pacific Tool as theirs matches Savage's lug and it's machined . I think you said you were off a couple hundredths/Thousandths so the stock sized lug should let you screw on enough

For .20 thousands or half a millimeter why not file/sand the back of the barrel nut to make it shorter hence increase distance from adaptor face to back of barrel nut? also where did you get the spare adaptor/extension would love to do barrel change setup for my impulse, when I contacted Savage - "we don't sell extensions"

For whatever reason neither CZ or Savage want to admit that we can change these barrels. It’s like a big secret, which makes no sense to me, because any non gunsmith working on almost any part of the weapon voids warrenty, and isn’t recommended. I don’t see the liability issues.

Idk but I don't like how the front of the receiver looks like it's held together by screws. A lot of weird forced are in play in that receiver if that's really the case.

Send the barrel back in.

The barrel is actually in-spec for a Savage model 10 action, which is what it was chambered for. It just happens that the Impulse needs slightly longer tenon threads. I didn't want to deal with shipping and waiting and trying to explain the issue, so I just handled it myself.

Is the front of that receiver cut in half and held together by screws!?

No. That's the barrel clamping area. A steel barrel extension slides into the aluminum receiver, and is clamped into place, much like a Desert Tech SRS (and probably some other rifles), albeit on a bit smaller scale. The steel bolt engages the steel barrel extension only. There's not really much force exerted on the receiver itself, except to hold the steel parts in place. It's a pretty well proven design at this point.

@@ShopTowels So the short answer is yes.

The receiver is aluminum and that is why they use a barrel extension for the bolt to lock into

Where did you get your barrel extension? They are nowhere to be found and savage won't sell them individually for us to do our own barrel swaps

I'm not sure if he's set up to sell or make any more, but see this thread: www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/savage-impulse-1-year-update.7124549/#post-10444794
